The Last Guardian Gameplay Demo (E3 2015) (PS4)

Just watched the gamersyde HQ version. The image quality and graphics are incredible. Man the artstyle doesn't jive with low quality streams. One of the most interesting aspects of Trico is that its eyes glow red when it is angry or pissed. You can literally see it transition that is so eerie when you notice it.

I advise everyone else to download the HQ bit trailer of gamersyde. Incredible. There's so much more to make out the more you watch the trailer again and again.

may I have a link please?

The thing that most impresses me is how Fumito Ueda is very much in charge here. I have 100% trust in his vision.

You can tell by the latest trailer that his vision is still there, the simplistic, minimalistic look, the details, this is a 100% Ueda game, a dream come true.
I was a afraid that SONY was going to tide Ueda to his chair and dudebro it up, imagine the trailer with 100% more explosions, colors and Trico wielding 2 UZIs and a cigar killing everything at sight.

Sony may be a lot of things, but one thing they definitely are not is guilty of is purposefully appealing to dudebros. It is why I have always had respect for their overall gaming approach. They clearly support unique and different visions for games.

Interestingly I have been digging up some of the old articles about this game and found this:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010...adow-of-the-colossus/comment-page-2/#comments

"SS:
Is Trico the only creature of that size in The Last Guardian’s world
?

FU: Again, I can’t give you any specific details. But there may be something like that out there…"

Ueda's vague comment on this prospect is one of the more interesting things he's said about the game in my opinion. I wonder if this is still the case where
there will be other sized creatures in the game. As for the context, maybe potential boss fight ala colossi battles with an Ico twist perhaps?

My heart.

Ending spoilers. Trico gives birth. Commence amazement!

What if Trico grows over the course of the game? Starts as a young creature then into full grown adult?

The hype was just build up to unbelievable proportions. I don't even know what I quite expected, but seeing it just being a "normal" game that mixes elements from Ico and SOTC felt a bit underwhelming. Though I'm not blaming the game for that, just myself and the crazy hype over the years

Listen to this man. It's really night and day.

The textures are so much clearer, the "glowiness" of the whole game doesn't fuck with the IQ, everything is crisp, clear. Hell, you can see little hairs on Trico's feet.

Lol Y2Kevs tag

They gave a 2016 date, but I'm still not convinced it's actually releasing. Not because I'm in shock, but because we've been burned a lot with this game. I want at the very least a financial quarter of release. At best I want a hard date and playable versions by this year's PSX at the latest.

Shuhei Yoshida said that the main reason they revealed it now was because they were confident of the release window.

Something which mixes elements from SOTC and Ico cannot be described as a 'normal' game.

It was on Wikipedia for all this time though:

Wikipedia said:
Ueda suggested there may be similar creatures like Trico in the game, but could not confirm this

Also Trico was chained and then escaped. It suggests it was a big animal. Otherwise it would've been kept in a small cage lol

Wow, the Gamersyde footage does look great. The subtle red eyes and strangling as Y2Kev said are great touches. I love the atmosphere and the interaction with Trico.

I suspect there will be other large creatures you can climb over, both hostile and unthreatening. It's hard to imagine the boy attacking them whilst mounted though, unless he grows up more.

the bloom. the textures.
look at heavenly sword, and uncharted 1.

and interesting how you all took that as a negative remark. i love ps3 graphics. but now with anti aliasing and smooth frame rate

Some people confuse Ueda/Team Ico's primitive texture style for primitive graphics.

Shadow quality and the framerate still need some work but the detail's already there.

Glad that this one didn't get canceled. Looks pretty awesome. Hope that it is fun and varied enough throughout the game.

People that are complaining about the visuals.....come on now

Watching the gamersyde video shows just how stunning this looks. So much detail everywhere. The animation of Trico's movements and the feathers on his body are unbelievable. Didn't notice his eyes turn red either.

I feel like I didn't notice anything during the E3 stream because I was too busy losing my shit from the fact that it was back.

Their last game was really awesome so this one is getting the benefit of the doubt. And I thought the atmosphere in this gameplay trailer was pretty top notch. Nice art style and music. Really liking it so far.

The core concept potentially being one big "protect/guide NPC" mission is risky, and the development history is worrisome, but I'm excited to try it.

Are you saying this whole game is an escort mission? I kind of got that from the trailer, in a sort of puzzle game sort of way, dismissed it as madness as who would care so much about that... I'm really confused about the hype for this one.

If you have a PS3, or PS Now, check out ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection. That will give you a better understanding as to why we are hyped.

Yeah, holy crap, it was a night and day difference to me. It's crazy the detail I missed before.

holy shit. Fucking phenomenal.

Also...I know the creature is called Triico, but it seems it's native name is "Eobai" or "Durgu"? That may be just the native language to beckon or call to someone though in the game...

Or it means something like "Come over here" and "Don't be afraid". At least that's what I thought.

Incredibly Naive
I heard during a livestream yesterday the press demo starts a little
before the E3 gameplay?

Can you give us any details?

I'd also love to know what you think of Trico's AI in a live demo setting.

It started about 5 minutes before the e3 demo. It has trico lying down reluctant to move due to the arrows in his back. You climb up and remove the arrows, which noticeably hurts trico, but ultimately you can see he appreciates it. From that point it's just some basic interaction of working your way out of the "cage" trico is in. There are various interactions that do alot to build the personalities of the characters and show what their relationship is like. I have a ton of faith Ueda has had his vision from the start and believes in it.
