Of course, that’s why this is the best video ever uploaded to YouTube. The most popular things are always the best.
This is the best game of all time:
4 of the top 10 from Naughty Dog.
Best in the industry by far
Immersion and narrative storms the charts.
That's like saying the best song is the one that has the most views on youtube. These things are not a popularity ranking.
Sure it is.
It's a popularity ranking of 100 or so out of touch game critics.
Vs
A popularity ranking of what 200+ million real gamers choose to spend their hard earned time on.
I'll trust the gamers.
Just shows how meaningless awards really are.
My exact thinking.
That's got to be the quietest big awards winner ever.
I
It was a pretty crappy year but its still a travesty.
I honestly enjoyed da inquisition more than half the other games on the list.Slow year that one...
I have my problems or issues with TLOU: P2 but its success isn't because it is a like a movie. Having characters in your game that have some depth and have good voice over does not make a game into a movie (most games have voice overs now). The gameplay for Part 2 was pretty solid, it's just the pacing and structure where I feel like it could have done better. Regardless, point is, it is a solid game, not a movie game or a game that resembles a movie.Opinions are opinions, but I have a hard time picturing how TLOU2 has swept the awards the way it has on the merits of the game content. It's probably going to go down as under appreciated in its time by the vocal internet users. Message boards will probably be more receptive to it in the future. I still think a lot of people had their minds made up from the leaks.
As far as expectations from mainstream media regarding their GOTY choice I can see why they'd choose a big budget AAA as GOTY as anything that resembles movies seem to be their objective standard to quality, but I'd expect more "gamer" focused outlets with their fingers on the pulse to go for a game like Hades.
It is what it is. Congratulations to Naughty Dog.
Half the list is Sony
Just shows how meaningless awards really are.
So then, the Wither is the most cinematic games of all the games listed in that list?Summarized, the more cinematic the more game awards.
Might as well hand out the oscars to the films with the most amount of tits and cunts. I mean we all love tits and cunts - why even focus on script, or in the case of game awards; gameplay?
Overrated games? Here's the top 100 games on Metacritic:

SteamCharts and XBox Most Played Games list suggest something entirely different.
Game critics have been out of touch for a while.
it was not a strong year for video games. i believe overwatch did beat out UC4 in the critics vote by just just one award. How could a borefest like UC4 win so many GOTY awards lmao
Before someone calls me a hater, I think the awards for UC2 are mostly justified.
The market loves COD, Fifa, NBA2K, Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox.

But other than that, it is bizarre. the game is a snoozefest and by far the worst uncharted.
Really? i think it won based on the game's content despite the mixed reaction to the story and the controversial leaks. The game has very little flaws when it comes to gameplay. You can argue that the characters were boring and the story didnt work for you, and I will be with you, but I look at all the other big GOTY contenders and TLOU2 easily beats out all of them in almost every single category.Opinions are opinions, but I have a hard time picturing how TLOU2 has swept the awards the way it has on the merits of the game content.
What the, Witcher 3 is the top? Uncharted 4 above 2? Weird ranking
Why Dragon Age Inquisition is on the list?

The game won because of the content.
- Graphics? THE best. Amazing animation system. Best cutscene facial animations ever. Phenomenal world detail and lighting beat out probably only by cyberpunk in that particular area.
- Combat? This is subjective. I personally thought the A.I, combat mechanics, and controls were up there with the best combat systems of this year. FF7, Ghost, Warzone, Demon Souls, Cyberpunk and Miles all play great are probably on par but i wouldnt fault anyone for picking TLOU2 over those games. I dont think i have ever played a third person shooter that gave me so many different tools to take out enemies. The revamped melee system and dodging really put this above MGSV which to me is the gold standard for TPS.
- Level design and setpieces: I would love to play a game that had setpieces as intense as this game. I loved the exploration and combat setpieces like when Abby has no guns and has to use just her fists and hammer to take out clickers. Not to mention the incredible chase scenes and boss fights.
- Story and cutscenes: There are simply no games out there with better dialogue, better facial animations and cutscene direction. We can argue about Abby being boring, and the game being devoid of humor, but there is no doubt that the "content" as you say is top notch.
Combat was easily the best but there was so little of it. I remember replaying the combat encounters and i found that there were only around 3 hours of combat in the game. the rest of walking and climbing. Now thats not that bad for a 6-8 hour game but when your game is 15 hours and you end up waiting literally an hour before a 15 minute combat section, it starts to get really boring.Other than a couple young Drake moments, the game was some of the most fun gameplay to be had in an Uncharted game.

I remember doing several breakdowns of chapters and how literally entire 45 minute chapters had no combat sections or even puzzles.

Yeah, the pacing is bad especially when they make you start over as Abby and have you sit through her boring aquarium flashbacks, but they also gave Abby the best boss fights and setpieces. I hate played the game on my first playthrough so didnt notice them but when looking back and on my second playthrough I realized just how many great setpieces she had.The pacing of the game is abysmal with the structure they went with, the gameplay loop is good but it's made for a game with 15h tops, Ellie's story was already pushing it.
yeah Abbies section is honestly FAR far better than Ellie’s imo. Except for that last mission at the compound where you play as Ellie which was maybe the best level in the game. Ellie’s first half really began to drag.Yeah, the pacing is bad especially when they make you start over as Abby and have you sit through her boring aquarium flashbacks, but they also gave Abby the best boss fights and setpieces. - Truck chase sequence. Amazing graphics and scale despite being a on rails sequence.
- Forest melee setpiece. Amazing atmosphere. Rain, lit by fire, and Our first taste of how powerful she is and just how much fun she can to play as.
- First brute boss fight.
- Hospital Boss fight.
- Horse run through the fields on the island.
- Second Brute boss fight.
- Ellie boss fight.
you are the second person to tell me this which is funny because i pretty much ran through this section. it was almost 3 in the morning and i had been playing for 5-7 hours straight thinking the game would finish any moment. started at day 3 with abby and didnt realize there was still a lot of game left after day 3 ends. i kept saying to myself that the game shouldve ended on the farm and just mentally checked out and rushed my way through the rest of the game.Except for that last mission at the compound where you play as Ellie which was maybe the best level in the game.
What? lol
You're comparing single player games to multiplayer games. Multiplayer games (especially free-to-play multiplayer games) are going to be played more than single player games.
What you're saying is that gamers think Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Fortnite, DOTA 2, PUBG and Gran Theft Auto V some of the best games ever made just because they're among most played games in 2020.
Well, yes and no. I don't think a game having good voice acting and good characters with some depth makes it into a movie. Uncharted, Last of Us and RDR2 are also good games in their genre. There weren't as many goty awards given out back then right?
You got my point, mr. Literal. Don't deny.
People keep saying single player games are floundering but there is no evidence to suggest that.Multiplayer games aren't inherently "more played" than single player games. We all played Evolve. We all played Anthem. We all played The Avengers.
Good games are inherently more played than bad games.
The best games in the industry over the last 10 years just happen to be from the multiplayer side. Single player has been floundering for quite a while. It's stagnation is in desperate need of innovation.
Both manlet TLOU games looking up at a true titan of critical praise, gaming excellence, and ploughing must enrage so many Sony apologists and the "SEEDEEPEEAARGH r trAnzphobes and wacists!" crowd.
This is like celebrating some disposable pop singer because she has a million Spotify plays. Same reason Marvel movies make a billion dollars. Pedestrian content made for people with terrible tastes. "Official" GOTY awards are fucking garbage anyways and just one more way for people to feel a product validates their lives. What a sad world we live in. Very cool for the devs to get recognition for their work and hope they get some bonuses after all those years though.

ftfyAll great games there. Aside from Dragon Age, RDR2, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Uncharted 4, TLoU2, TLoU1 and GOW2018.
BOTW is overrated.
