The new silicone case I guess is supposed to be the "solution" to the protruding camera. Still annoying. Oh and now instead of the smart case for $79USD, you're paying $118USD for the silicone case + smart cover. Or $149USD for the smart keyboard.

I did just get the larger iPad pro, but after playing around on it over the weekend, I think I might return it and get the smaller one. It just feels so cumbersome to use unless I am sat at a desk.

Also, what the shit is going on with the UK iPad case prices, just looked and to get an Apple smart cover and silicone back it would cost £94. How does a silicone case end up costing £55.

The price of the silicone case is fucking ridiculous. Hopefully a cheap 3rd party alternative is out quickly.

I honestly thought that silicone case price was a mistake at first when I checked prices before - it isn't. What the fuck.

While the hardware updates are great, there used to be a time when Apple used to surprise me. I miss that Apple. Apple hasn't created an original product in ages. Everything shown here we already knew about.

I was hoping that the new iPad Pro would run a version of Mac OSX along with iOS for the tablet stuff. It looks like Apple is prioritizing business over what would be useful for consumers.

he Surface Pro is great but until it gets the equivalent of iOS it will be a mediocre tablet. The same thing is true for the iPad Pro. For me, it is a mediocre laptop until I can run full fledged software on it. I would love for a company to not only create the hardware for a hybrid device but the software as well.

It's the only area of growth left where you can maintain profit margin.
-can't cut much into android market without chopping hardware pricing
-annual upgrade to existing customer is getting less important
-emerging markets are slowing and still not as affluent to afford $800 phone every year

So all that's left is business market. The end goal being every work PC is switched to a Mac and every blackberry/android/surface becomes an iPhone or iPad device.

Jeez apple just seems boring nowadays.

I remember being so hyped for the iPhone 4 reveal.

It's happening to everyone. Hard to innovate in the space at the moment.

I mean the A9 is incredible, but it's hard to make it seem all that flashy in a presentation to the non-tech savvy.

What's the purpose of that Macbook? Who does it serve?

It's expensive and underpowered. Sure, it's thinner than the Air but the air is so thin as it is that I don't see how that makes up for the first two points.

The MacBook does have the Retina display. That is the main reason I've been seriously considering buying it and not an air.

A lot of this comes down to Intel's terrible delays.

They got raked over the coals for releasing the 13" MBPs before the 15" models, and eventually Apple just said "screw it" and refreshed the 15" models since Broadwell was still delayed. The chips have only just come out for them now.

We'll see it as a quiet refresh or they might hold them back until WWDC but blaming Apple for Intel's delays is a tired game.

I'm a bit surprised they didn't update the rMB, since that could use the generational boost the most, and that one actually has the chips out. Who knows what the delay is there.

The point is that it's a first generation model and within a few generations it'll be as fast as the Air and will become a proper successor. Until then it's a niche product made to sell enough to get the technology down in price.

However I don't think the first revision will be much better than the original. It took the Air about 3 years to become a useful powerful light machine instead of the "look, we made a super small computer! Shame the processor technology isn't at the level it needs to be yet. Yo, Intel. You gonna get on that soon?" computer the original Air was.

This iPhone SE isn't apart of the upgrade iPhone every year plan right? Because it's a downgrade? I just glanced at all this info and then wondered if I was getting a new phone or not lol 🙃

Masterful job by apple in getting rid of all those unused 5S housings. I can't believe people still buy this shit. Then again, thanks to their OS upgrade system you almost certain are forced to after 2 updates. So I can't really blame the end user but then again they continue to buy into this garbage.
5S runs iOS perfectally yet.

I just will but the SE because my screen broke last month when my phone fell from my hand :D

It is a upgrade... there is no 4" iPhone with these specs... the best one before was the 5S.

5S to SE is a big upgrade.

I have a 5s and a iPhone 6 for work and I'm not seeing iOS 9 hampering performance at all.

I don't know if I should buy an iPad Pro 9.7 or get the Air 2. I don't really need the Pencil or Keyboard... but the hardware does sound more future proof with faster CPU/GPU and 4GB of RAM.

It's 430 vs. € 690 though... hmmm

you should wait and check out the better screen on the pro in person.

Pleasantly surprised to see I was right about them knocking $100 off the Air 2. Good move, and makes my decision to sell my 64GB Air 2 last week for close to $400 a relief. That wide gamut display on the Pro shall be mine, love that as a photographer.

Very surprised at the aggressive pricing for the SE, that's gonna push a ton of units for them.

Really expected a One More Thing with MacBook updates at the end there given how short the event was running and the nostalgia bit for the location they were at. I'm gonna guess we'll see a relatively silent refresh for the rMB sometime within a month, with the Pro redesign to follow at WWDC. At least a June release gives me more hope they can get a dGPU (Polaris) in the 15" rather than iGPU only.

then i'm wondering why subsequent upgrades to the OS made the phone run like absolute shit? There had to be some bloat or overclocking done somewhere along the line, no? Aside from the battery issues the only other thing i've noticed with reasons for people getting rid of them in my shop is they run slow.

I don't know what you're talking about. The 5S flies on iOS9. It's buttery smooth and real-world-benchmarks as well as or better than any Android phone apart from the 2016 Galaxy S7 and 2016 LG G5, despite being nearly three years older.

Maybe you're confusing it with the 5? Or the devices are physically damaged, have a ton of background apps running, or are at maximum storage capacity?

The 5S really is an amazing device with remarkable longevity. One might argue that it's the first "modern" smartphone; it's certainly the oldest that's still going strong.

I have been trying to come up with a theory of why they didn't update the design for SE to match iPhone 6 and iPad series while updating every single component anyway, but instead stuck with the 4 year old, 2012 iPhone 5 design.

I've got nothing.

The phone's for the 4/4S/5/5S folks and lower-budget customers. The former group doesn't like the 6/6S, whether for size or design, so why risk alienating them? The latter should still see the 6S as an aspirational device and maybe move up some day, so why give them something that minimizes the aesthetic differences?

And it's certainly cheaper to stick with the tried and true old design and retool existing assembly lines as little as possible.

Hmm still no news on the SE ram specs? I may buy an IPhone SE as a second phone to my Mi phone. Haha kind of ironic that my main phone will be a China phone, shows how competitive China have become.

Edit.

Huh did not noticed that I saw the wrong price I can get a high end MI phone for that price.
I am out, =p

2012 iPhone 5 design >>>>>>>>> iPhone 6/6S design

This photo reminded me how much more lust I had for the 5/5S than the 6/6S…The latter two just look like lumps of nothing compared to the SE design. I own the 6S, it does everything I want fast and competently, but the design just doesn't give me a chubber.

Do you know that on S years they usually pretty much also update everything but the shell of the phone?

It's still a hell lot easier than to engineer a whole new shell design, not to mention it keeps a pretty sweet compatibility with cases and other design-dependent accessories.

The antenna lines are what I'd expect from Samsung.

I wish I would have waited for the SE rather than buying the 6s plus
I really miss that small form factor and I hope they don't abandon the SE line like they did the 5c

You think the 6 has a better design than the 5? That's surprising, since you've got a rep for having really nice taste. I personally think the 6 looks ridiculous, and the 5 was the refined version of their greatest design work to date.

Honestly this one of the reasons I might go from a 6 to a SE.

I already miss the diamond-polished chamfers. The mirror finish on the silver 5/5S was really eye-catching. Guessing the matte finish is cheaper for them to make.

Is the Touch ID in the SE the newer spec? It's blazing fast on my 6s.

Nope it's not. 2nd gen Touch ID is only the 6S/6S+!

As far as I can tell, the differences between the SE and 6S apart from the body and display:

-lack of 128GB
-1.2mp front facing camera
-1st gen Touch ID
-no 3D Touch (can do live photos though)
-no LTE Advanced (missing a few LTE bands, not a dealbreaker)
-no MIMO
-Barometer
-1 less microphone (3 instead of 4)
