Hoping the 9.7" Pro is confirmed to have 4GB, if it is I'm likely going to jump on the 128GB - as expensive as it is, I can't see it needing replacing for a good while with those specs - hell the 3rd Gen has lasted me 4 years and that's obviously running far lesser specs, yet is still usable today.

Just hope I can find a good 3rd party case because fuck paying £65 for the "official" silicone case.

The Air's continued existence is just a stop-gap measure until the MacBook is cheap enough to replace it, just as the MacBook was until the Air replaced it before.

I mean, why not wait until the Macbook is that cheap instead of launching a gimped version?

The Air made sense because it was clearly thinner from the start while with the Macbook is just diminishing returns at this point.

I don't know, maybe the Macbook will be cheap and powerful enough to be worth the money but right now is just the odd man out in that line up.

Few seconds recognition vs instantaneous.

"Few seconds" is overstating it, it's like, half a second versus instantaneous.

Because it still has its benefits, like a Retina display, a bigger display than the 11" Air in the same footprint, better speakers, Force Touch trackpad, and supporting USB-C which will likely be a new standard port going forward.

What's the difference compared to the new TouchID sensor?

Login speed.

6s version scans your finger so fast you can forget your phone is even locked at times.

Had to get in the habit of using the side button when I just want to see the lock screen as pressing the home button always instantly skips the lock screen due to how fast the reader is.

While the hardware updates are great, there used to be a time when Apple used to surprise me. I miss that Apple. Apple hasn't created an original product in ages. Everything shown here we already knew about.

I dunno man, it was years between iPod and iPhone, and years between iPhone and iPad... It was just that no one else was doing anything back then and no one expected as much every six months. These kind of cycles probably hurts Apple in the long one. In any case, the SE looks like the right phone for me.

Doesn't seem like from the comparison, all iPad models are listed as having "Fingerprint identity sensor built into the Home button" - strange that they wouldn't put it on a new device, though.

IIRC there are odd supply constraint issues with the finger print sensors, perhaps they want to just ensure they have enough supply of the faster sensor for the 6S

Thinking of picking up a refurb iPad Air 2.

Are refurbs generally in good condition?
How does the iPad Air 2 compare to the iPhone 6 in terms of power?

I'm a little frustrated at the price disparity between the US and UK (And Europe, for that matter) for the SE.

I mean, I'm OK with paying £359 but I don't think 16GB is going to cut it anymore. I'm currently still on an iPhone 4 16GB so I definitely need to upgrade, but jeez, an extra £80 to get 64GB? What is this, a PS Vita memory card?!

Not that I should have expected anything less from Apple...

So what do you guys think? Should I shell out the extra 80? I'll likely keep this phone for another 5 years, but I managed to last the past 5 on 16GB.

Bah!

Keeping the bigger photo sizes in mind I would go get the 64GB one. Better safe than sorry, especially considering you plan to keep the phone for a long period of time.

Just read about a USB Type c to Lightning cable with 29w instead of 12w. This enables fast charging on the iPad Pro 12.9". Huh. I think I'll wait for for a iPad Pro 2.

Refurbs are good as new in my experience.

Compared to the A8 in the iPhone 6, the A8X in the Air 2 runs at a higher clock speed, has a third CPU core, has twice the RAM, and features a more powerful GPU.

Is there any A9 device without 2 GB OF RAM?

Seriously, just went to USELL to get quote of 288 for my 6 in case I can't sell for 300.

I have never been tempted to switch to Tock before today.

It's so small and beautiful!

Yes, no reason to skimp on memory if you are going to keep it for more than 1 year. Heck, I'm glad I bought my 64GB iPhone 6 Plus instead of the 16gb one

64GB is for winners.

Hah! I survived on my 4S with 8GB for 4 years!

Safe to say I can't download any apps or anything extra now, but all the essentials are there.

with the european price in mind and this cray 40 % difference, I might just go for the 6S.

I'm still using a 16 GB 5S and don't really know what I'd fill it with. It used to be music but I just use Spotify now. I don't play games and I'm a photographer so I really only use the 5S camera for reminders (like take a photo of a book at a bookstore or of a sales receipt if I need a phone number or something).

My guess is Apple has done market research and a large percentage of their users are generally OK w/ 16 GB plus it probably drives iCloud subscriptions. I'm thinking the 7/7S have 32 GB base storage, but we'll still see 16 GB iPhones being sold until the 6S/S+ is phased out which will be years.

did they annouce iphone 7

no

the 16gb model is there only to make the 64GB model look like a better deal to upsell people

I'm not sure if they have confirmed sources or if they are just speculating, but both iMore and BGR are saying the iPhone SE only has 1GB RAM. Hype deflated if it turns out to be true since it is staring to sound more and more like a budget phone.

Oh damn, really? That would definitely help explain why the price is so low despite the camera and A9.

Oof, the iPad pro 10 inch is more expensive than I thought it would be. Fuck man, 700€?

It's probably around 900€ just on accessories like a proper keyboard cover and pencil.

Probably still springing for one though.

I'm just now learning the 9.7 Pro has a protruding camera.

WHY?! The device is meant to lay flat on a table. That's very disappointing - won't it wobble when using the pencil?

Yeah, I really think that's a huge, huge misstep.

As much as I really dislike iOS, having robust pen support with OS native features in a 10 inch tablet was a huge draw for me on this. But not being able to put a tablet down flat? Hype killed. Seriously.

At least on a phone they can pull the excuse that it'd be in a case. But lots and lots of people have their iPads naked.

Honestly? I've never, ever seen an iPad without a case. And nearly everyone around me owns iPads.

Still a ridiculously stupid decision on their part, but honestly it won't make a lick of difference to most. Just imagining putting that bare aluminium down on hard surfaces makes me cringe. Case up, dawg.

I've never had a rear cover - Smart Cover only - but my iPad is a house iPad, or travels in a padded section in my backpack

Protruding camera is bad for at least two reasons
- iPad will wobble if used on a hard surface. And as they made it pencil compatible that can happen a lot
- the protruding part will dig into smart covers when they are folded behind the iPad

I'm super excited about the 9.7" iPad Pro. Great upgrade!

What storage size is everybody getting? I'm thinking 128 is probably enough for me.

I have a 128gb 12.9" and I still have 80GB free. Unless you're storing huge art projects, and lots of them, you should be cool with 128

The biggest problem with Apple right now for me is they have to many products.

The Macbook line is a mess.

The iPad is the same with the Air and the Pro fighting for space. The Pro takes some space from the Macbook too.

The Iphone line makes sense, there's nothing wrong there.

They should streamline their products a little bit more. Is like they are trying to cover every corner of the market but it just makes it all a bit confusing.

Apple trying to copy Samsung with this mess? :jnc
