Nope it's not. 2nd gen Touch ID is only the 6S/6S+!
As far as I can tell, the differences between the SE and 6S apart from the body and display:
-lack of 128GB
-1.2mp front facing camera
-1st gen Touch ID
-no 3D Touch (can do live photos though)
-no LTE Advanced (missing a few LTE bands, not a dealbreaker)
-no MIMO
-Barometer
-1 less microphone (3 instead of 4)

This photo reminded me how much more lust I had for the 5/5S than the 6/6S The latter two just look like lumps of nothing compared to the SE design. I own the 6S, it does everything I want fast and competently, but the design just doesn't give me a chubber.
It is not only the look of design that is better for me... the resistance and build of 5S is better than 6S.The antenna lines never really bothered me much. Especially on the silver back. Honestly I've come to appreciate the curve of the glass and rounded edges of the 6 design more.

Thanks man!
They never stopped selling iPhone 5s, and lol at the conspiracy theories. No one said anyhting about telling people who want smaller phones to "fuck off" so to speak. I was stating that apple bailed on the small phone a few years ago and claimed there was no need for that noise anymore. But in true apple speak fashion they obviously fucked up but don;t want you the consumer to know that so here is this dope ass "new" iphone SE.
My point is that had apple not basically forced obsolescence into the devices by upgrades that just make the older phones run slower for the sake of saying "we have 90% of our devices on iOS 9" in a press release you would still be able to use those older devices on legacy OS's and they won't be decrepit and slow.
Now they are basically selling you another 5S for $400 bucks that in all honestly is a marginal upgrade and really didn't need to exist if apple wasn't worried about forced iOS upgrades.
edit: and personally as a repair tech this is a homerun for us. likely still using the same components inside and possibly even the same LCD assemblies. So I don;t have to learn a new device and that's always a plus.

AnandTech said:Its also worth noting that Apple is basically completely uncontested in this part of the market. Although there are a lot of budget phones out there using 4" screens to hit their respective price point, Apple seems to be the only OEM still playing in the 4 display size space for high-end phones. There are a few Android OEMs trying to keep phones at the 4.5-4.7 segment (i.e. iPhone 6s size) with similarly high-end specs, but no Android OEM is trying to sell a 4 phone with high-end hardware. Itll be interesting to see what kind of effects this has on sales, although Im not entirely sure that Android OEMs are going to be following Apples lead here as a smaller device makes battery efficiency more critical due to scaling effects.
Exactly. The other phone companies are simply too afraid to test these waters. They could have easily beaten them to the punchline and with a fresh design.Something interesting from AnandTech.
It is the only option for a 4" high end phone.

I want to upgrade my 1st gen 16GB iPad Air pretty badly. There's no reason for me to ever grab it, when my 6s+ is so much faster, and it's so low on space.
But man, the iPad Pro is a significant investment. I'd want cellular, so the absolute cheapest model is $730. Plus a $150 keyboard and a $100 pencil. Plus tax. We're talking a thousand dollars for a tablet, when I already have a fast and large iPhone, and a MacBook Pro.
Yes, it's got a lot more functionality than my Air. It's way faster. And the accessories aren't required. But, it's like every little thing is way overpriced.
It starts at $100 more.
There's no 64gb option, requiring a significant splurge to 128.
The cellular chip that costs $5 is a $130 upgrade.
The pencil is $100.
The keyboard is $150.
It's like the "Apple tax" hits over and over again.

I don't understand why people include the cost of the pencil and keyboard as if they are mandatory.
I'm buying the iPad Pro and have no intention of ever getting the keyboard or a pencil
Does it though? Most of that extra functionality comes from the stuff you have to buy extra anyway. I would buy an ipad pro if it included the pencil, but that shit costs a ridiculous amount, $165 in Australia, it's an absolute joke when the 9.7" ipad pro starts at $900 here. You're look at $1064 minimum for a 16gb wifi only tablet w/ pencil.
16gb iPad Pro doesn't exist

I don't see any smart case for the iPad pro.
Everything in your post is wrong, except the wow.So a bigger ipad, a couple of lame accessories and a three year old phone

So it has the same resolution as a 5s, shouldn't that mean this will run even better than a 6s then since it doesn't have to push as many pixels :3

It is not only the look of design that is better for me... the resistance and build of 5S is better than 6S.
6S looks like cheap material on hands.
I'm happy they back to the old design.
Yeah assuming no downclocking shenanigans this ought to have significantly better frame rates for gaming. Having to push massively less pixels than the 6S or especially the S Plus is gonna make this thing a beast.
A beast with a small display. Honestly prefer the trade-off.
I can't wait to run with the 6SE. It's half the weight of my 6S+.
I wonder what the SE naming will be going forward..
iPhone 6S
iPhone 6S Plus
iPhone SE
iPhone 7
iPhone 7 Plus
iPhone ....SES?
It should've been
iPhone 6SE
iPhone 7SE
The "S" in the SE is going to cause some problems with naming I think
The SE is just the replacement for the 5C. Which was just a replacement for keeping the previous model around. There will be another SE. But it isn't guaranteed that it'll be the same name.I don't think Apple even knows if there will be another SE yet. This seems like a very experimental product for them. A 4-inch phone in this day and age with near-top-shelf specs for well under flagship pricing is totally uncharted territory for any phone manufacturer, much less Apple. They probably want to see what happens.
If it were the 5C replacement, they won;d've made it a 5S internal. Or maybe A8 chip, but they gave it internals of a 6S, and the better cameras. It's as current as you get internally. The SE is just the replacement for the 5C. Which was just a replacement for keeping the previous model around. There will be another SE. But it isn't guaranteed that it'll be the same name.
My prediction is starting with the 8, they'll design it in all three sizes from the beginning and just have all three available from the start. 4", 4.7" and 5.5" all at the same time with the same design cues. The 5C had a new design because they wanted to show off their neat new way of moulding plastic shells. (Which is strange since nothing they sell is plastic anymore.) The SE is literally the same case as a 5 and 5S because it lets them reuse the old machines to make their casings. But once they streamline the process they'll most likely just design all three at once and get them released all on the same day.
At least that's how I see it.
And the 4" is going to sell pretty well. How well did the 5C sell? (I own one myself because there was no 6 at the time. It's white. I love how it looks. But sometimes wish it was black plastic, or bright Product (RED) colored.)
iPhone SE 2.
Honestly Apple dont give a shit about a future proof naming convention these days. Well, aside from the mainline iPhones I guess.
So it will be whatever. S, C, E, Air, Mini, you name it.
