So is the SE the same chassis as the 5? Because I honestly with they would have gone even smaller. The 4 was perfect for my tiny hands, could easily reach everywhere on the the screen with my thumb.

Not sure how they're going to stuff a quad-core i7 and discrete GPU into something as thin as the current Macbook, but ok. Just please have more than two damn USB ports.
MacBooks didn't have discrete GPU.

The quad-core i7 is only option to 15"... the 13" uses at max dual-core i7.

This is all I've been able to find from the Apple website:

"The iPad Pro Smart Cover, iPad Pro Silicone Case, and Smart Keyboard are made for the 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. The iPad Air Smart Cover is compatible with both iPad Air 2 and iPad Air. The iPad Air 2 Smart Case fits only iPad Air 2. The iPad Air Smart Case fits only iPad Air. The iPad mini Smart Cover and the iPad mini Smart Case work with iPad mini, iPad mini 2, and iPad mini 3. And you can purchase a Smart Cover or Silicone Case that is compatible with iPad mini 4."

cool, thanks. That reads like the Ipad air 2 smart covers won't work with the pro. Wonder if the magnets are placed differently? At least the smart cover for the pro 9.7 is the same price as the air 2 one, and they're available in more colours than the 12.9 version, including my favourite Product Red.

I was hoping that the new iPad Pro would run a version of Mac OSX along with iOS for the tablet stuff. It looks like Apple is prioritizing business over what would be useful for consumers.

he Surface Pro is great but until it gets the equivalent of iOS it will be a mediocre tablet. The same thing is true for the iPad Pro. For me, it is a mediocre laptop until I can run full fledged software on it. I would love for a company to not only create the hardware for a hybrid device but the software as well.

Who are these consumers falling over themselves for tablets running dual OS or a full OS? Even the iPad Pro is a bigger deal and that was a flop. Maybe the smaller version will do much better.

Looks like the battery test rate it above 6/6S... little difference but still better scores.

Well even the hours of use predicted by Apple is better than the 6S. You would expect that though since its the same chip with a lower power screen. The screen is uses the most power on these phones.

Yeap but I guessed the small baterry coild shift sides.

I actually also read something on 9to5Mac I think in the past hour that said that the magnets are indeed placed differently and Apple recommends that you don't try and use the Air 2 Smart Cover.

Gross...that keyboard on the 12" Macbook is a non-starter for me. Those keys are nearly unusable to me. The current Macbook Pro lineup is plenty thin and still looks more modern than anything else on the market today.
Nah. It could definitely drop a few pounds. I hope they never rest on this emphasis on portability. The MacBook Air and ultrabooks wouldn't be here today if they did.

Timeless.

Yeah, that's understandable though the main feature of the big Pro is the larger screen which stays with the device.

However I'm in that iPad 3 group too so that's kind of why I asked, don't want to make the same mistake twice. :)
It has done well though, but it has run its course but I will happily upgrade to a 9.7 Pro and take advantage of multitasking, form factor and now night shift. (Even though the pricing hurts, especially in Europe)
Another iPad 3 owner here...

I'm right at that point where I'm starting to think about upgrading. The 3 just isn't keeping up anymore. I feel like I'm just waiting for it to die. I, too, don't want to make the same mistake again and jump in mid-cycle. It would suck if they come out with another iPad later this year with 4GB of RAM or something similar.

The ram thing is unfortunate, though I wonder at the impact on the smaller Pro. Using a big Pro right now, and having owned an Air 2 for a year and a half, the Air 2 handled everything just as smoothly.

That may be different with some of the higher end drawing apps for example, I don't know.

Wat. WTF WTF WTF, ARRGHH I should have bought an air 2 a year ago -_-

On the plus side the Air 2 is cheaper now

Yeah dude, it's practically the best iPad released so far. Mine is still kicking and looks good as new. I'm not even concerned about the new iPad Pro.

Yeah, Air 2 continues to be the GOAT going into its 2nd and possibly 3rd year. It's the best iPad since the 2nd gen. I got a 3rd party BT stylus that works wonderfully and 3rd party keyboard as well, and I'm not missing the pro or pro mini much at all. Maybe in another couple years it'll start to show its age and then a little after that I can start considering an upgrade. Air 2 is a terrific investment as far as Apple product cycles go.

9.7" iPad Pro has 2GB RAM and a bit lower clock on CPU compared with 12.9" iPad Pro.

iPad Pro 9.7 is, in my opinion, an iPad Air 3 for $100 more. It's kind of ridiculous.

Remember, it's been a year and a half since the Air 2 released. Everything about the 9.7 Pro seems like a natural evolution of that device 18 months later.

At least the 12" Pro is, by all accounts, an actual performance beast.

The big iPad Pro is the best, every other iPad is garbage compared to it.

It's also too large to be considered practical. Seriously I owned an iPad Air and returned it after a week because it was way too uncomfortable to use, especially when gaming. The iPad Mini is the best size and I hope they consider making a "Pro" version of it with Pencil support in the future.

Too large to be considered practical? I carry it everywhere I go in my briefcase and it hasn't been unwieldy or anything like that.

Totally agreed. I wasn't sold when I got it, was thinking of returning it. Then I went back to iPad Air 2 for a weekend and have had no such thoughts again. It's an *awesome* screen to the world. It could lose weight, and doesn't quite fit hotel night tables, but other than that - just phenomenal.

I just think for me it would be way too large for daily usage. It's not something you can get a firm grip on and use it with one hand in bed, you'd probably need to prop it up on your needs to leave it on your lap and carrying it around is probably super-inconvenient if you don't have a bag or in your case a briefcase to cart it around in.

I like my iPad Mini because it is a great "Pick up and go" tablet and is extremely portable. When it come to using it in bed or on the sofa I can just hold it up it one hand like my phone and browse with the other hand and for gaming you can get a grip on both sides. When I was gaming with an iPad Air I simply could not get both my hands on it and then stretch them to use virtual thumb-sticks and the like.

Also panzer confirmed 2gb on both the se and nano iPad Pro.
Honestly, what the fuck! Then there is Nothing! that contribute to that 599 price point. Only support for the Pencil and Keyboard, which in its way is ridiculous since they are 250 extra. As the A9X would have been in an Air 3 anyway.

The actual fuck Apple, so furiating and I really don't know what to do. My 3 is giving up, I don't really feel like getting a year and a half old product or paying an insane price for something with few news to the Air 2 except support for products that don't interest me. Help. A 4 GB RAM would have been a no brained, but now I have no idea what to do.

If I was in the market for an iPad, the bigger Pro would still be my favourite. I mean, I wish I could even afford it, but I don't think I have much use to a 10" tablet anymore so it's the biggy or nothing.

But the camera and the true tone display would make me wait at this point :(

Yeah I'm in the same boat 😡
They really should have made an Air 3... I don't want to buy an old A8 tablet when the A9 is so much faster, but the Pro is 689€ here...

This is exactly my situation. I held off on the Air 2 because I thought a successor would improve on it and make it more future proof, and now it has the same amount of RAM? So besides a slightly better processor, absolutely nothing worth the wait. A better screen, sure, if you're willing to drop an extra couple of hundred on accessories on top of a price increase. An even larger than normal Apple tax on storage. An absurd price on a case that likely cost them next to nothing to produce.

All in all, a 128gb would have cost me near £800 with Apple Care, smart cover and case - and that's without the pencil or keyboard. Given this news, fuck that. The iPad 3 will have to do.

"Our iPad sales are slowing!" "Keep the specs that matter virtually identical, add pen support and a useless camera, now raise the price!"

Okay, it's now pretty much a toss-up between the 64GB iPhone SE and the Xperia Z5 Compact. Can anyone give me the 'pros' of iOS over Android? I've never used iOS before, but I've used Windows Phone, Android, Sailfish and BB10 as a frame of reference.

Probably the biggest difference is the fact that all updates are uniform across IOS devices. So if there's an update that releases for the 6S, you'll get it on the SE. On Android, a lot of it is fragmented, so some are running Marshmallow, some are running KitKat, etc, which can lead to devs having a harder time porting over, hence why most releases are iOS first.

The ecosystem still sits above Android, though the margin is pretty slim now. I just don't like IOS on the phone interface. Way too clunky with all of those pages of apps, even with folders.

Besides that, its Apple. They keep it simple, and it works that way.

Same. You feel it too don't you?
Yup :( Not being able to download RCT3 was the last straw! That 2gb RAM in the 9.7" has put me right off the Pro though - I'm not paying near £200 more than an Air 2 when the internals are barely improved.

I might get an Air 2 and just put the saving towards upgrading sooner than I would have otherwise, but part of me is annoyed at buying a device over a year old when I could have upgraded sooner, and essentially rewarding Apple for cheaping out on specs. Argh. Decisions...
