The Metal Thread |OT2| All Riffs, No Gifs

Can someone back me up here? A lot of racists folks on this Burzum video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKu-A14GHS0 (my nick is gabrielgao btw)

Just stay away. Don't even bother. That's the best advice I can give.

Damn, did he use Drumkit From Hell again?

The new Darkspace is fucking amazing. Album of the year material for me. Top 10 is going to be tough to put together this year.
It's very good indeed.
For anyone who cares: Avantgarde Music offer a 4CD bundle of -I to III for 36€. III I is supposed to come out soon to I guess.

Lol apparently Deicide fundraising for PBS was a thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0e14ZHURZ8

This is fucking great.

I'm still mixed on Grotesque. Historically cool that it's a pre-cursor to At The Gates, but it's just not that great.

Necrolord did do the album art which fucking rules though.

He also plays on it, which is even cooler IMO.

EDIT: Wait a second....never mind, apparently. Well, his art is still the shit, anyway. Dat Emperor artwork. Also, this is great as well

more female singers

The Agonist are pretty damn great

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdT7M4f2L9A

Question is, are they good and hust happened to have Alissa or were they good because they had Alissa? Because, I mean: The new Arch Enemy album is easily my favorite and the two released tracks from the new The Agonist album didn't entirely convince me...

But I will give wait with my final judgement until the album is released...

Impressive.

well I had no idea how much influence she had on song writing, but her voice certainly added that little extra, new singer isn't as good, i can't see her pulling off something like swan lake

edit, song mentioned

Great, now that you remindes me of that song, I'm sad that Alissa isn't at The Agonist anymore :(

I also don't know how much influence Alissa had on the actual song writing. From what i have heard the current Arch Enemy album mostly was writtem (minus the lyrics) before Alissa joined. But a great voice can make such a difference. Short anecdote:
There is this symphonic Metal band called Xandria. I saw them life once and thought they were quite mediocre. Then they changed singer to Manuela Kraller and the next time I saw them, I was blown away from the same songs I also heard the first time...

Don't get me wrong, Dissection is great, but I like Far Away from the Sun more than any of the Dissection albums.

I can understand that. I'll go back and forth on Far Away From The Sun vs. The Somberlain/Storm of the Lights Bane.

I feel that Far Away From The Sun is more consistent overall.

Still seems like a holding pattern with Vanitas.

What do you mean? That it is on par with Vanitas and isn't better? I really don't mind two albums worth of a good thing. But then again, Vanitas was my first AN album and then I worked my way backwards through their discography.

Sounds like more of the same. I'm definitely a Vanitas fan so this doesn't bother me.

Ziltoid 2 pre-orders are up. Couldn't snag the silver vinyl bundle but I got the black one! Double vinyl and it also comes with both albums on CD as well. And...a frisbee for some reason. Sold out after buying it. Har!

I'm still a bit skeptical. Ziltoid is probably my favourite Devin Townsend album, but I haven't been a big fan of his recent output (save for maybe Ghost, but that's quite a bit different). If it's like Epicloud or Deconstruction, I think I'll be disappointed.

Damn, did he use Drumkit From Hell again?

For Z2 he did. The second album "Sky Blue" has his usual drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen playing.

Ghost was incredible. Easily one of my favourite albums of all time. Sitting out in the back garden as the sun sets with that on in the background is magical. Perfect chill out album.

You don't need to worry about Z2 being compromised. It's actually two seperate albums. The Devin Townsend Project album "Blue Sky" being a mix of all sorts of previous styles he's dabbled in over the past few years, and "Z2" according to Devin is a straight follow-up to the first Ziltoid in both recording style, and structure.

Devin Townsend is the fucking man and I'm super stoked for Z2.

What are your favorite Devy albums? These are mine:

1.) Terria
2.) Ziltoid the Omniscient
3.) Epicloud
4.) Addicted!
5) Synchestra
