So Volbeats new album has me going back and listening to their first albums that I was never able to get into. Suddenly I really dig these guys!

Also, if there is ever a Baywatch remake Super Collider should be the theme song.

I just got into the new Volbeat too. Never heard them before; never would have bothered with them if not for the King Diamond collaboration. I love their more bombastic, metal-influenced tracks, but their softer stuff leaves me totally cold. I can't get into anything on Outlaw Gentlemen before track 6. But when they're less alternative and more metal they're a breath of fresh air. Their heavier stuff sounds like Load but with better songwriting, and without the taint of Lars.

Room 24 may as well be a new Mercyful Fate song. It's amazing; King Diamond should write a whole album with these guys. I'm also enjoying Hangman, Lola Montez, Black Bart, Doc Holliday and Our Loved Ones. That's less than half the album, but I'd love to hear more Volbeat in this vein. Which of their older albums would you recommend?

I think these 3 are in line with what you are looking for:
Abyssic Hate
Nontinuum
Whirr (Probably not metal but they share members with Deafheaven)

Midnight Odyssey
Heretoir
Grey Waters

It's good I listened to your, cause I had quite a different idea of the kind of music when I read the first line. I'm not sure whether you are looking for something like Abyssic Hate. Anyway, here are my suggestions.

Lifelover is great, black metal mixed with post-punk. Nice contradiction of 'happy' melodies and a unpleasant atmosphere. The first three albums are recommended, stay away from Sjukdom.

Some songs:

http://youtu.be/tPKd8GEfTPI
http://youtu.be/pcxUolK2uGk (NSFW for the bloody naked chick)

ColdWorld - Melancholie2
http://youtu.be/m9bdbLWZlqg

Negura Bunget's OM http://youtu.be/rGc_NszVq_4

Everything connected to Neige probably :p Les Discrets, Lantlos.

While a lot heavier, I feel Cult of Luna´s Somewhere Along the Highways is very appropriate http://youtu.be/sPhl1vGRyXQ <3

Some non-metal recs:
Anathema: http://youtu.be4ijHuNpOPCs & http://youtu.be/C4x1Mq-NFFc
Antimatter: http://youtu.be/C55VW_o1V3U

thanks crew

Since there is some interest lets do this formally, quote this post and nominate 2 bands for your MetalGaf's Favorite Metal Band.

After a week (or should it be shorter?) of nominations I'll put them together in a poll. We'll keep in in this thread so we don't get too many non MetalGaf votes.

Opeth
Tool

I agree with with the Load comparison. plus throw in some Elvis.

Tbh I'm only getting into them, so I dont feel I can properly recommend an album, but so far I dig Beyond Hell/Above Heaven above the others. I just listened to them in release order. I still like Outlaw Gentlemen the most tho.

Any good nintendocore bands?

If by "nintendocore" you mean metal bands with chiptune elements, then Machinae Supremacy would work (power metal w/ SID chip)

Rainbowdragoneyes (gameboy + power metal styling w/ harsh vocals) take a more chip-focused approach but, being in several metal bands, he still has that metal flavor.

The Depreciation Guild weren't exactly metal (shoegaze/post-rock + NES) but they were good, too.

New Rob Zombie is pretty cool. Regardless of the lyrical content, I always felt a lot his music has so much energy and passion behind it. The album is typical RZ. Just a blast to listen to.

Man, the first half of this year has been/will be awesome for metal.

We should do another community vote in July for our favorite albums of the first half of the year.

Speaking of which, whats the outcome of the favorite band list? We should do one with our top 2ish favorite songs too.

The new single from Megadeth is here.

I've been listening to it for a few days on Spotify. My opinion hasn't changed. I still picture it on the Baywatch OP.

I don't know that term, so I'm just going to say listen to Powerglove.

I love that band.

I wanted to replace Skyclad with Summoning but I'm too lazy to dig up the post and it doesn't matter anyway because this board is full of plebs. :D

Hm. I was kind of hoping for a point-ranked voting system. This will piss off a bunch of people in this thread, but for all the other bands I listen to, I can't not pick Opeth.
