Making all time favorites lists always reminds me that I get a bit distracted with new releases and there are a ton of old classics I haven't even listened to in a long time.

When we're talking albums, I had the same problem you guys had with bands, it's hard for me to do even just ten.

Metallica - Master of Puppets
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle Earth
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Down - NOLA
Death - Individual Thought Patterns
Eyehategod - Dopesick

This is the list as of now, in no particular order and it would probably change as often as I change socks.

I'm a big fan of thrash, death, sludge and doom.

Honorable mention because I'm not sure if they count as metal or punk: Black Flag - Damaged.

i'll try 1 per band. i've included samples since there's a handful of not really well known bands there:

Manowar - Into Glory Ride (SAMPLE)
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth (SAMPLE)
Wizard - Odin (SAMPLE)
While Heaven Wept - Vast Oceans Lachrymose (SAMPLE) - also my fav song of all time
Athem - The Extended Mind (SAMPLE) - my 2nd fav of all time
Stratovarius - Elements Pt. 1 (SAMPLE)
Pagan's Mind - Celestial Entrance (SAMPLE)
Rhapsody - Dawn of Victory (SAMPLE)
Sonata Arctica - Winterheart's Guild (SAMPLE)
Power Quest - Wings of Forever (SAMPLE)

Lost Horizon - Flame to the Ground Beneath (SAMPLE)
Falconer - Northwind (SAMPLE)
Mystic Prophecy - Regressus (SAMPLE)
Pathfinder - Beyond the Space, Beyond the Time (SAMPLE) - one of the best PM albums of the last 10 years

and a shitload of others i'm forgetting right now.

Picture was posted on Steven's Facebook yesterday. Pretty excited because I'm seeing Steven Wilson this Thursday, and Opeth (and Katatonia) the following Thursday.

Antichrist - Sacrament of Blood
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Sarcofago - INRI
Gorguts - Obscura
Diocletian - Doom Cult
Satan's Satyrs - Wild Beyond Belief! (if it counts)

none of my favorites are really cemented (aside from maybe the first two), but it's something like that

Makes me smile to see so much Between the Buried and Me - Colors

Such a fucking phenomenal album. They played through the entire album masterfully when I saw them live.

I'll give my list later... maybe... pretty difficult to do.

You know, I've always found it pays to pay attention when Southern Lord signs new bands. I'm digging both of their new releases from Hessian and Agrimonia. And their next release is the highly anticipated Power Trip.

Southern Lord are killing it in 2013 with these newly signed bands.

OH MY GOD ALL DAY!!

Album of 2013 for me, at least from what I've listened to on Youtube. Totally scratching an itch I didn't know I had.

I've been digging this band too, they scratch the Sabbath itch really well.

Also listen to the new Orchid if you haven't.

Totally grabbed that the other day. I mostly quit smoking pot last September, barring special occasions. With the weather this good and this stuff cranked on my headphones I think the time is right to get super high and just rock out.

High-five to my Kadaver brothers! They are so bad ass.

Check out what I got in today, import vinyls for the win!

rose-swirl vinyl

Other one is 180g black:

If ever there was a band that belongs on vinyl, it's Kadaver.

The final one I got in today is this Cough/Windhand split vinyl, which is probably the best looking vinyl I own (cross posting some of these from the vinyl thread, hope that's ok):

It also has the best cover art ever, I wish I could get a poster-sized print of it:

I made a C++ program that tallies up the results. I'll make picks worth 1 point and HMs worth 0.5. People who posted the same album more than once will only have it counted once obviously. People who couldn't help but post more than 10 different albums will have all of their results counted, why not. You guys can go back and edit your posts if you like. I'll post results when it looks like everyone is done posting here.

Don't forget their 1991 Demo either. Kinda wish they did an entire album in this era.
Cynic - Pleading For Preservation

Supposedly that song got replaced by How Could I? It's got similar song structure and outro.

Their 1990 Demo ain't too bad either, sounded like a more polished Gorguts, hah.
Cynic - Cruel Gentility.

I love the look of colored vinyl. I just wish I bought more records (or more that artists I liked had vinyl releases). I'm going to stop by a local record store sometime soon and see what they have in stock. Last time I was in there they had this limited edition Wyrd album but I ended up not getting it.

Cool, which? This import Electric Wizard tri-color I have looks nearly as good. Most of the others I have are solid colors.

These are not metal releases, the one on the left is Ghost Ballads by Lonesome Wyatt and the Holy Spooks (a gothic folk/country act) and the one on the right is Heartsick by the same act. I really like the look of the Ghost Ballads record.

I've also got a really cool splatter color vinyl of Hank3's Straight to Hell album.

This one (not my pic):

I just want to share with you guys my personal album of the year, thus far.

It's Ancient VVisdom's "Deathlike". It's the first whole album that I've been able to listen to in a while. Just hit play and let it go. It's such a smart album that tells a convincing progression from beginning to end.

I'm digging how this thread has been going lately. We have a top band(but I really think we should do a list of bands with the whole point thing, too) and now top albums.

We should do top songs next :)

Also, I always predict stuf in the gaming thread that never comes true. At least I can predict stuff in the metal thread that winds up being true
okay, it wasnt really a 'prediction'
!

http://loudwire.com/newsted-confirmed-megadeth-2013-gigantour-trek/

I might go to this just to see Newsted. And any other band that isn't Device or Megadeth.

Edit: Fuck Hellyeah is there. I'll so go.

I'm listening to the new Howl album, so far it's good stuff.

Have you ever tried to describe a metal album cover to someone and realized how out there it can sound?

howl-bloodlines.jpg

There's a naked seer? holding a bleeding heart which has bled an ocean of blood. A wolf is drowning in the blood ocean while a Skeleton is rowing? his way through it. Oh and ravens vultures fly over a blackened sky with a blood moon.

Haha, that's why (many) metal album covers are awesome! That Howl album has a lot of cool, outlandish, provocative stuff going on with a beautiful aesthetic. Much better than describing your typical indie album cover: "ummm, so it's an intentionally amateurish drawing/excessively filtered photograph of some mundane object(s) that doesn't relate to the music, lyrics, band name, or album name, it's so ironic and hip!".

Is 2013 the year of throwback metal releases?

We've had:

Ghost - Infestissumam
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQDaWoWwqdM "Ghuleh / Zombie Queen"

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - Mind Control
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF3XOVFqOI8 "Poison Apple"

Orchid - The Mouths Of Madness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQqnt67ai0g "The Mouths Of Madness"

Kadavar - Abra Kadavar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2SdzgPj3_o "Doomsday Machine"

Plus we're getting new Sabbath and Deep Purple albums. It's too bad The Sword released their album last year, they're the masters of this.
