Is 2013 the year of throwback metal releases?

We've had:

Ghost - Infestissumam
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQDaWoWwqdM "Ghuleh / Zombie Queen"

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - Mind Control
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF3XOVFqOI8 "Poison Apple"

Orchid - The Mouths Of Madness
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQqnt67ai0g "The Mouths Of Madness"

Kadavar - Abra Kadavar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2SdzgPj3_o "Doomsday Machine"

Plus we're getting new Sabbath and Deep Purple albums. It's too bad The Sword released their album last year, they're the masters of this.

A demon wearing a Pope hat watches over a massive (planet-wide?) city while a monster sized newborn with no eyes wearing a gold opera mask plays while wrapped in a golden blanket inside the city center as a blood red sun rises on a new day.

That's the Saint Peter's square. I didn't notice it before you posted the pic. Nor did I see that the baby had an opera mask.

We really do have similar taste :p
Surprised that The eye of every storm is your fav neurosis album, maybe it's the one I have listened to the least! Same with Black Sabbath's, I mostly only heard the first records.
Poison Idea, that one should have made my runner-ups list too.

also I forgot about a guilty pleasure :X for years I've been coming back to nargaroth's jahreszeiten album, I don't know how well it's known outside of germany but I get laughs for it all the time here.
I like it a lot though :x

The first three tracks on EoES are like a mini album to me. I have to listen to them all the way through.

I'm listening to the new Howl album, so far it's good stuff.

Have you ever tried to describe a metal album cover to someone and realized how out there it can sound?

howl-bloodlines.jpg

There's a naked seer? holding a bleeding heart which has bled an ocean of blood. A wolf is drowning in the blood ocean while a Skeleton is rowing? his way through it. Oh and ravens vultures fly over a blackened sky with a blood moon.

Oh I know the feeling.

The+Raven+And+The+Reaping++HQ+P.png

So it looks like this: there's this like half-raven, half-human with like six arms and bandaged liked a mummy, carrying beads and a dagger and chalices and a reaper's scythe. The thing has like a halo of bones and there's this weird red ball. All in front of a dying tree and abstract sky.

Jeff Hanneman died :(

Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Our Brother Jeff Hanneman, May He Rest In Peace (1964 - 2013)

You guys and your lists! I'm going to try this and probably want to editX1000 to add/remove stuff but, whatever!

Armored Saint - Delirious Nomad
Bride - Show No Mercy
Carnivore - Retaliation
Death Angel - Act III
Dio - Dream Evil
GWAR - Hell-o!
Judas Priest - Stained Class (I almost disqualified Priest too but man, SC is some good shit :p)
The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Traveller
Obituary - Cause Of Death
Outrage - Blind To Reality

Didn't make it to the 'P' section yet! Ahem...

Praying Mantis - Live At Last
Sheavy - The Golden Age Of Daredevils
Slayer - Show... no... Hell Awa... no.... Reign in... no .. forget it, disqualified.
Testament - Practice What You Preach
Trouble - The Skull
Twisted Sister - You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll
Type O Negative - Slow, Deep And Hard
Venom - Black Metal
W.A.S.P. - W.A.S.P.

Oh man, RIP Hanneman. Listened to some Slayer during my teenage years and still own a couple of albums. Shocking news.

Woah, holy shit... I don't even know what to say. Slayer is one of my favorites. I'm so lucky that one of the very few live shows I've seen in my time is them performing Seasons In The Abyss in its entirety. Hanneman ruled.

RIP

RIB!

hard to argue with Show no Mercy, Haunting the Chapel, Hell Awaits, Reign in Blood, and South of Heaven. Best run of the big 4 imo.
