Reads Ace as Lace. May God have mercy on their soul
Found out there's 3 tracks missing from the Amorphis "Circle" album I bought. I really hate that. I'm not too angry if I'm missing one... maybe 2, but when I buy a deluxe edition and stuff I kind of expect to have most of the bonus stuff.

buy it from Itunes

Saw Black Sabbath on the weekend; was better than I expected (mainly with Ozzy back on vocals).
Still would take Dio over him any day though.

Next up, Boris playing Flood in full. Getting closer to hearing their best album played live (Amplifier Worship), but i'll settle for Flood.

Disappointed that Opeth was most popular pick, but anyone could see it coming miles away.

So the new cathedral album has arrived. On the vinyls there are some strange handscratched messages! "RWISAPRICK", "YOU AREN'T DOOM, GET OVER IT", "SE YA LATER". ...I wonder what those are about!!

New Black Dahlia Murder

More death-y than usual. Still great.

Awesome artwork for new album(out early June):

Oh shit, i forgot about this. Are you going to both nights? I havent checked yet, but I only want to see them one night, depending on set. I was hoping they would do Amplifier Worship, but Flood is good too.

I have been curious about Deafhaven live. Seems like a good bill -- especially with Boris material I haven't seen. Strangely I have seen Boris upwards of five times and I am still not sick of them.

Ok, I will give Opeth another try (only listened to them a bit when they came out but never got into them that much). Give me their best songs and let's see if I can agree with GAF's decision :)

Their flavor varies quite a bit (part of the reason why I love Opeth so much) so you should at least listen to a good few before you form an opinion.

Some songs I would recommend you check out:

Blackwater Park - Blackwater Park
Still Life - Moonlapse Vertigo
Damnation - Windowpane
Ghost Reveries - Ghost of Perdition
Watershed - Hessian Peel
Heritage - The Devil's Orchard

That should give you a pretty good overview of what Opeth is about.

Another option would be a live DVD. I would recommend In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall. It has the entire Blackwater Park album (one of their best) live plus one song from every other album they have released.

Observation One – Blackwater Park

1. "The Leper Affinity"
2. "Bleak"
3. "Harvest"
4. "The Drapery Falls"
5. "Dirge for November"
6. "The Funeral Portrait"
7. "Patterns in the Ivy"
8. "Blackwater Park"

Observation Two – A song from every Opeth album in chronological order.

1. "Forest of October" Orchid
2. "Advent" Morningrise
3. "April Ethereal" My Arms, Your Hearse
4. "The Moor" Still Life
5. "Wreath" Deliverance
6. "Hope Leaves" Damnation
7. "Harlequin Forest" Ghost Reveries
8. "The Lotus Eater" Watershed

This only excludes Heritage which was released after this came out.

and then you have all these fake genres like crabcore and such.....too big of a can of worms to open up for a simple pole.

i can't believe you just called crabcore fake :<

I honestly can't think of too many non-joke fake genres, honestly. Unless you're like take a dig at djent or something like that

Same here.... I love Opeth but not sure if they are the best, lol. Maybe like Hydranockz said, next time doing it by genre could work much better.

The thing is, they're not even the best in the genre. When you have made tons of albums and your best is only decent, it really tells a lot about the band.

I've seen them lots of times too. Best Boris shows I've seen is the one they toured for Smile with Torche. Also the secret live show with OM at Amoeba Music in San Francisco. Something like 150 people were only let in.

My turntable came in the mail a week ago and it is becoming clear that I have a vinyl problem.

I feel ya, bro. Vinyl is a serious addiction, especially when so many metal bands put out kickass limited edition records. I've bought several hundred this year already, ugh.

In other news, as mentioned, that Anciients album is fucking great.

You know you have a vinyl problem when you buy multiple copies of the same record.

I'm looking at you Dopesmoker.

I meant something like this;

We could even just go by region to avoid vagueness and just have a different poll every day for a few weeks (maybe using an offsite thing to track votes so as to not spam the thread). I ust think it's a lot fairer than what ended up happening here. We had 50+ nominations with as many voters. It was always going to be spread pretty thin for the most part.

It is hard for me to pick. I really dug the psych heavy shows with Rainbow/Michio Kurihara. And I caught them with Sunn 0))) in Minneapolis for Altar, which was pretty f'ing memorable.

I wanted to see that Altar show so bad, yet missed out on anything Sunn O))) related again.

Anyone got cool shirts over the years?
This was just a small collection of the boxes of shirts I have stored from a few years ago:

My favorite shirt is still the Carcass 'Tools Of The Trade' tour longsleeve and a Death 'Human' '91 tour shirt.

Very sweet collection, looking at the Napalm Death one, reminded me, just met them for the very first time a couple of weeks ago here in Mexico, they were invited to some kinda open air festival, lucky I saw them at the airport, when I was waiting for Ex Deo, Heidevolk and Alestorm.

Loving your Entombed one as well.

Not the most original choices but I stick by them.

Hmm...

Probably (in no order, and 1 per band):

Opeth - Ghost Reveries
In Flames - Clayman
Soilwork - Natural Born Chaos
Devin Townsend - Terria
Agalloch - The Mantle
Katatonia - Viva Emptiness
Amorphis - Silent Waters
Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory

And I should probably stop there. That gives a good idea of my foundation and the albums that I still hold very dear.

There's a few progressive rock/metal albums that I just kept off because I mostly consider them rock. Some people consider them metal, but whatever :p.

I'm going to seem like a massive Opeth fanboy:

Opeth - Still Life
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Opeth - Watershed
Between the Buried and Me - Colors
Between the Buried and Me - The Great Misdirect
Unearth - In The Eyes of Fire
In Flames - The Jester Race
In Flames - Clayman
Metallica - S&M
Sonata Arctica - Ecliptica

I feel the need to include all those Opeth albums because they are very, very different. Ghost Reveries is the only possibly redundant one, but the drums are too good to ignore it.

My choices are a bit outdated. I haven't really been listening to much new material in the past 5 years, so my choices reflect that.

Let's try to keep it to 10 at most. Heritage and Damnation aren't really metal albums anyway. And yea, the drumming on Ghost Reveries is incredible.

Here are mine. Kinda variable taste, way to many to name.

Intervals - In Time
ISIS - Oceanic
Trenches - The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole
Living Sacrifice - Reborn
Living Sacrifice - The Hammering Process
Gru - Cosmogenesis
Tesseract - One
Whitechapel - This Is Exile
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
August Burns Red - Messengers

HMs:
August Burns Red - Constellations
Periphery - Periphery
Sworn In - Start/End
Liam - Journey...Two Years and a Fragment

Super hard but those are definitely my favourites; no order.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality (This one will alsways have special place in any list I make)
Cathedral - Carnival Bizarre (Listening to this is like eating for breakfast...I just need it!)
Cathedral - Caravan Beyond Redemption (This one is always overlooked, it's a great joyride!)
Cathedral - The Guessing Game (Not for everyone, I love it!)
High on Fire - Death Is This Communion (I got the CD autographed by Matt Pike and Jeff Matz at a concert, yeah!)
High on Fire - Surrounded By Thieves (I wish the production was better, the album is so damn heavy!)
Sleep - Dopesmoker (What can I say? :D)
Judas Priest - Painkiller (Party!)
Mastodon - Leviathan (Just a great album that I like to listen to while jogging!)
Orange Goblin - Eulogy For The Damned (Beer and summer music, yeaah!)

I wanted to see that Altar show so bad, yet missed out on anything Sunn O))) related again.

What's the white one? A Carcass shirt?
I got some band shirts. I got an Opeth LS (Ghost Reveries), Immortal LS, Emperor TS (Promethues), Deathspell Omega with logo, a Bathory one. My favourites are a red Anaal Nathrakh LS and Nasums Couple TS from their farewell tour. I wear the Nasum TS sometimes, the rest stays in my wardrobe.
