The NES Classic Edition Controller Cord Seems Exceedingly Short

Maybe it's the Japanese version?

I have a Super Famicom at home, its controller cables are REALLY short, like 1m. For the European version, they made the controller cables more than twice as long.

I doubt they would use the US model for the Japanese release.

Shouldn't we wait until we see it outside of a trailer?
This seems like an overreaction at the moment.

Then again, personally I wouldn't have a problem since I have a long HDMI cord and my tv is close to my coach. So who knows

The video in the OP isn't a trailer, it's a hands-on from Comic Con today. The cord is less than the guys arm span, he holds it out.

And a long HDMI cable aint gonna cut it since you still have to plug this into a wall for power somewhere.

Naw. An electric connection also wouldn't be a problem for me, my set up is beyond convenient for any situation.

Well I guess people will have the Authentic NES experience then. Although I would still wait before losing our minds tho.

They're just expecting people to play like this:

Up close and personal.

Never seen this one before but I love it in every way.

The actual NES controller cable length is probably about 10 feet. It's way longer than my SFC controllers.

and yet the DS4's battery life is poor enough that having a decent cord would actually be just as helpful.

Oh so this is a war now, to justify short cords on this product?

FWIW, the UC4 controller I picked up, as well as others have said, lasts much longer. I get a good 10-12 hours without having to plug it in. (maybe they changed the power draw inside them, who knows)

The OG lasts 6-7.

And who the hell games longer than 6 hours in one sitting? Goodness.

You can also buy 12' cables for like $3-$4 online.

The original controlers on my NES were 6 feet long

But it is to scale. ;)

I don't understand why it's not wireless. I know it's a budget thing, but surely a wireless doohickey in the controller and system wouldn't have increased the price of production so much that the price of the product would've had to be increased. They didn't even need to include a battery. Just let it run on AAs.

As an owner of a lot of Chinese Famiclones, the short cable might be deliberate. It's short because in order to access the game list menu you have to hit the reset button on the console, so if you're going to play a lot of different games in one sitting it's better to have the console within arm's reach. Could be what's happening here.

The originals were short too. Not suprised. Cord length could have also been short just for the show floors and demo purposes also

Not really. I'm just eyeballing, but the NESC controller looks about on par with the classic controller.

Technically, it is when you conect it to a wii remote to play on your wii/wii u

For the time being, im guessing that cord length is only for showing on the SDCC show room.

It's still not wireless and does not help the Mini NES, lol.

Has anyone tweeted them for clarification on the length theory?

They're just capturing the original experience

The original famicom had the controllers hardwired to the console

And the original super famicom controller cord length was lol

Damn kids get off my lawn

Before you go changing your plans, do be aware that it's entirely common for cords to be shorter than production lengths on pre-release display samples and prototypes of CE products. I wouldn't make any assumptions based on this presentation.

This. Calm down, people.

My eyesight is eternally f***** from sitting a foot away from a crt for hours playing my NES. Authentic experience. You just had to sit close to the tv, don't ask me why and shit.

Two gaming sessions and the charge is gone which means I have to sit and wait for to charge or start playing right in front of my TV. It's minor annoyance is all.

The NES classic is a different beast. It's cheap console meant to be plug and play and moved from room to room not a fixture of your entertainment center like a PS4.

I guess I can see that. I usually plug mine in when done, and it charges pretty fast in between.

I also get the reasoning with the Mini NES, but what it is 'meant to do', and what a lot of nostalgia people who are now adults, working with a more disposable income than when kids 'are gonna do', is have it pimping nicely next to your other electronics.

Get a longer HDMI cord and put the console where you sit?
That's soooooooo dumb, I ant it under my tv for god sake not having it Lying about my living room. A lot of people buying this will be adults with you know adult living rooms where having long wires hanging out everywhere isn't an option. I hope this is just the demo unit as I'm out otherwise.
