Yeah, that's the car I won the Lightweight Cup with, I think you get it from winning the Sunday Cup.

oh, cool. i have that one.

is there an easy way to see all the relevant stats for the cars while shoppin g or even in the garage? for the life of me, i couldnt find any detailed info on any of the cars to tell what the length was, so i'd end up just eye balling the damn things while shopping from vendor to vendor.

An info screen shows up when you buy/sell your car which includes information such as weight and dimensions (lengthxwidthxheight).

Also, when you are in the garage, you can sort your vehicles by: power, weight, power/weight ratio, year of make, date acquired, etc.

I am soooooo gonna get lost in this thread!

Where to begin? I just got my copy yesterday and have been playing since midnight. Took me 19 "days" to get my B license. Why do I got progressively worse as this series goes on? I ruled at GT1, skipped GT2, and sucked at GT3. Only got up to an A license in GT3, looks like the same is gonna apply to this game to. -_-;

You guys and your ultra setups aren't helping either lol. I'm scrubbing it with a 13" tv, mono sound, and composite cables. Woooo! Needless to say to me, it only looks alil above GT3 in graphics. But I'm not here to complain nooooo nothing like that!

I'm here for help! To get better! And I'm already trying to get better~even though I transferred my GT3 B & A licenses over along with some credits, I still went through the whole B license test. All bronze finishes but it's something right? Also I got it set to manual tranmission from the start no weak automatic for me o.o!

Now with 98,100 credits what kinda car ought to I get? Or more importantly what's the first race I should enter? Pleeeeeaase go easy on me (cause the game sure won't!)!

The one thing I find very disappointing with this game is the LAN play, it is, without a doubt not very good. Some friends and I played it the other night. 1st problem was that for some reason we could not get the new slimline ps2's to hook up to one of my friend's older PS2's, every time we'd start a lan game it would just show disconnected whenever his was connected. Secondly the setup screen for the LAN game is very user-unfriendly. Nowhere is the easy plug and play workability of Xbox lan games.

Lastly, and the most glaring annoyance is that the LAN play is very lackluster. Why do you have to save tracks to your favorites folder to use them in a LAN game? That doesn't make a damn bit of sense. Also, why can't you use any car in the game? The car list is limited to 244 cars rather the 750 normally offered. You can't use cars from your garage either. OF course, I can use cars from my garage in split screen, but not on LAN? Why? There's also only a limited number of cars for each track in LAN play, undoubtedly every time you start a track the cars in your favorites folder will be unsuitable for that track and they'll give you a choice of ten super cars. The super cars are fun and all, but sometimes, I just want to race a couple of civics or M3's around a track, and the LAN option won't let you do that.

OVerall, I found this mode to be very weak and disappointing.

well, just got my DFP from Amazon and unboxed it. initial impressions are positive for the wheel. it is the exact same size as the MOMO Force but definately has a smoother feel to it when you turn it.

the pedals however, not so good. the MOMO Force pedals literally obliterate these piece of shits. the gas and brake pedals have absolutely no resistance to them at all. whereas the MOMO Force has really nice tension. also, the base's size on the pedals is only about 2/3rds of the MOMO's and the DFP's pedal base is also much lighter, which is definately not good. lastly, there is a little more travel in the pedals on the MOMO which i prefer. i am not liking these pedals AT ALL! no sir, these suck. very dissapointed about this aspect.

i'll give better impressions later after i've played with it for awhile.

P.S. i fortunately got a Revision B wheel (whoohoo!!!). thank goodness! i was so worried about getting a Revision A.

the only way to find the length is to proceed through the steps like youre going to buy it. the very last step before you actually buy shows the more detailed info on the car like length. why did the change this from GT3? why? huh, why?

Get a Lotus Elise (you can find this in the UK), get comfortable with it, and go to the Special Condition Events. Complete the second race, the Costa di Amalfi Rally (this does not require dirt tires), and sell the car you earn for a quarter-million. After you've done this a couple of times you can start building up a pretty serious collection.

thats also one of the most fun courses in the game IMO. i dont mind playing them over and over again at all :D

Revision B has steel ball bearing's instead of plastic. Which makes the wheel smoother and last longer. You can tell by looking on the plastic bag thingy that is over the enclosed manual. It will say Revision B on a little sticker on it. You can also tell by the serial number.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. It's also really narrow though, which is why I'm recommending the itty little Elise over the big honking Skyline that I used. It was no fun to herd that thing through the streets. I actually spun it out once and got stuck. I backed up, went forward, backed up, went forward, and I couldn't get pointed the right way again. I had to wait for my opponent to smash into me. :lol

PS: Just finished taking a stock '49 Beetle through the 'Ring. 13:31.047, not bad at all. It's pretty zippy for 25 horsepower.

i agree. that course is sweet. i'm having fun trying all kinds of different cars on it. the jump is also cool. first time i hit that going over 120 i about shit my pants as my car went literally flying through the air! :lol

plus in 30 minutes of time on that track i can get a cool million. easy as pie.

my first race of the reverse track, i slammed the rear of the ai car into the first hairpin and the stupid sob did the same thing. he never got past that corner for the remainder of the race :lol

can you point me to where i can check my serial number? i dont think i have the plastic bag any longer... i figure if the wheel craps out, i'll just swing by walmart anyways :P

playing the pal version of gran turismo 4 and i have to say - the intro song (kasabian - reason is treason) is pure utter shit!!!! and they cutted the 480p and the 1080i mode out of the game. sony europe, i hate you!!!

Im not sure which revision I have right now but the brake pedal on mine has a very nice resistance. The pedals also seem more percise, maybe more degrees of inputs? Never had a problem with the weight, the carpet teeth do a great job of holding it perfectly.

No, I'm quite serious. It may be a challenge but not an insurmountable one, since the cars you're racing against are old and slow.

Cars ? I was only racing against 1...maybe I did go to the wrong place.

Also this games graphics suck for me. I don't know if it's running some uber graphics engine my POS tv can't handle but in-game and replays during certain parts of any track so far my screen starts vibrating and it really messes me up ;_;

You only race against one car at a time, but they're different cars in the two races in the series. One is an Audi Quattro, one is an old Celica.

I'll be the first one to admit that the track is damn hard. I'm doing the Super license test, and it's using a tarted-up Lancia Stratos... what an evil, evil car. Spins out if you look at it wrong.

its not just you. i think the game is awesome, and the gt series has always had that "photo real" look for it, but i dont think it holds up graphically (track wise) against some other racers (wont mention names, dont want to start a fight or pissing contest). this isnt for purely technically reasons either, some tracks look pretty bad IMO. obviously, some look amazing too... there is some disparity between tracks. it seems the new to GT tracks look quite a bit better then the recycled ones, but thats kind of to be expected.

as far as the screen vibrating or shaking, its gotta be cause the image is pushing the ps2 too hard. you'll notice it most when their is a lot of trackside detail AND there are many cars visible on screen. because of this, its quite common on the replay cam footage starting "full throttle" races.

It seems like they ditched the GT3 engine entirely and started from scratch (and a couple of old track layouts). The looks, the physics, the whole feel of the game is completely dissimilar to the older one. Yet it doesn't really look much better, just different. It seems like they put a lot of effort in for not a whole lot.

PS - S13 is owning me hard.

This does not happen in 480p or 1080i mode. I only see it when I forget to switch to one of those modes.

^^ actually it does. just not as much. i see it every once in awhile still.

are there any mods out for these pedals? the momo had a few different mods out for it (this and that) which made a big difference. i find it strange that your pedals have nice resistance and mine don't. my pedals have very very little resistance and you can't feel them hardly at all. if you have shoes on, forget about it altogether, it's like nothing but air. i took my pedal base apart on the DFP to have a look see and to guage if i could do the squash ball mod on the brake pedal (can't, as it's different kinda setup).

yeah, i dont doubt that at all... yet, for some reason, the brand new tracks like tokyo, the grand canyon, capri etc look quite a bit better then say, seattle, that night stage, etc. maybe cause they are playing more to the strengths of the new engine?

Perhaps. Those new tracks are also the most frustrating, though. Technical sons of bitches, every last one of them. I still like the Original Courses the best.

Has anyone done Driving Mission #23 yet? I'm finding it impossible. I got the technique of aiming my slipstream so the other cars pass me, so that I can then ride their asses in return and accelerate close to 175 mph by the time I go through the corner... but even when I thought I did it perfectly I still lost to the #1 car by 1.23 sec. What's the catch?

Damn this game is rocking my ass in a good way

Finally finished all the license tests except for the super tests (just passed, not all golds)

I tried getting all golds first, but gave up for now because even in the b license some of the tests are really fucking hard to get gold on and I'm not looking forward to how tough it will be on the a, ib and ia tests (some of the ia and ib were tough enough as is).

After you've got the ia and ib you can do the missions - at the point I'm at, they're all "pass car A in turn B" and when you win, you get 1 000 credits, plus 250 A spec points. It's not as fast at making cash as the elise/rally race method mentioned above, but it's a lot faster than my previous method (doing track meets on the various tracks after practicing them and making 500 credits a race). Now I've got 13 000 I can either put towards a new car or just upgrade my current car (90 RX-7 GXR) and I've got plenty of missions left

Also, the graduation test for ia is insane. 376km/h down the longest straightaway in the game, with the Driving Force Pro shaking like an earthquake and you have to fight it just to stay on the racing line. God damn it was crazy. I can only imagine what it would be like to drive on the Nurburg ring like in that video...

the DFP's force feedback is absolutely incredible. i also love how smooth this wheel is. it's so much more smooth than the MOMO wheel. amazing wheel. it's hard to believe they put this amazing wheel with these cheap fisher-price pedals.

anyone know if there are some aftermarket pedals for the DFP i can buy? oh yeah, and a link. i'm ready to buy right now, can't take these pedals anymore.

Evo VIII MR on Grand Canyon...WTF?!

IMG0014.jpg

How do you get the blur like that in photo mode? I switched to manual focus and focused on my car but everything else was not as blurry as the EVO pic above. Here is what I mean:

mycar2.jpg

I picked it up a few days ago. Underwhelmed at first, but then I bought an '05 BMW M5 to run the M-series in the BMW dealership, taking that baby flat-stock on the required Nurburgring was awesome. All the sophisticated handling dynamics make themselves evident while trying to keep the car from getting too bent out of shape at top whack.

Top notch entry in the series as expected, but the disappointment in lack of car selection isn't just about the Ferraris and Porsches that Microsoft (PGR2, Forza) and EA have largely locked down. I would have loved to wring out any of latest excellent Cadillacs (not just 1 oddball showcar), or have a choice of Saabs, and no Corvette C6?! A lot of the licenses were just left static too apparently, the dumpy, cancelled Acura CL coupe still there yet no TSX or TL. There is a lot more missing than that, but the lack of Caddies and C6 stings most.

I don't mean to make myself sound like an authority on this, I just have been fortunate to not see it firsthand. Maybe the type of TV has an impact?

i dunno. granted, it's not common in 1080i (certainly not bothersome cause of it's infrequency), but i have definately seen it. like i said, i noticed it mostly in b-spec for some reason.
