hahahah.

Gundam Unicorn did its damage tho. Ordered HGUC, Gelgoog Marine, Jegan, RGM-79 GM, Geara Zulu, Base Jabber and two action stands.

Nice. Unicorn is essentially mobile suit porn after all.

I still need to paint my HGUC Banshee and I just got my HG Sinanju. I think the Sinanju was the best suit to come out of Unicorn.

So these are all of the kits I've built while away at college. Man, time sure flies.
Just finished the Try Burning and the Shining Gundam. Both are amazing kits, with the Try Burning winning in articulation, while the Shining has that unique style compared to other Gundams.
If anyone is in the market for the Try Burning, in my build I've only found one issue: The blue Plavsky crystals like to fall off a lot, especially the ones in the shoulders.

I honestly wasn't even expecting the SUMO to have an old kit. Suit design in this show is weird as fuck, only this worse is Zanscare.

It was intentional. They brought in Syd Mead to do suit design. SUMO was in fact the original White Devil design!

I don't even really like the Turn A or X. SUMO is pretty good in my book though.

Bandai must have pissed at Tomino for that. When the Flat made it's vibrating debut I was like, "Dafuq is this thing?" Same for the Mutto mobile armors. So the SUMO is the original Turn A Gundam design?

I adore the Turn A. Fits the Turn A world well and the lines on it flow really nicely. The legs especially are awesome.
Turn A oddly never really bothered me unlike some people that use it as a reason to not watch the show. Turn A just has a different color palette and art style compared to most of the franchise. The other mobile suits that aren't dug up Zeon suits are just weird though. The WaDoms seem like spoofs of the Tripods from War of the Worlds.
Turn A grows on you with its dumb mustache.
I love how it's rarely called the Turn A in the show, it's just simply called "The Mustache" most of the time. Tomino knew it'd be its most defining feature.

Kinda like with econguista in G Tomino wanted a unique feel to the mobile sits in Turn A. I thought the design from Turn A were pretty cool and unique. Turn X is one of the most amazing design to ever come out of Gundam.

Yeah. When they first told Syd Mead to design it they told him to go crazy and created the Sumo. It was supposed to reveal a gundam-like head underneath the glass screen of the helmet. When they saw it though they felt he went a little too far and had him create the Turn A.

Interesting. Considering Bandai showed Victory out of order just to show the Victory Gundam in ep one I can't see them going for that. The Sumo is a decent enough looking suit by itself so I don't really mind either. I can't picture a Gundam flying around in a skirt being approved by the board either. Do they reveal other weird looking suits after the Muttos? I've already gotten used to the WaDs, WaDoms and Flats, but man this show is weird looking. I honestly can't wait to see what the Turn X can do so hopefully I'm close enough to the reveal (next ep is ep 30).

PSA: Gundam The Origin I will be available for streaming in about 5 hours or so, according to ANN. Go to Daisuki.net

Edit: Daisuki.ne has it up for rental. 7 dollars to rent

My thoughts on Origin:

First 7 minutes isn't bad, but I can't say I'm fine with the portrayal of mobile suits. A zaku should not move like the god damn Unicorn lol. But that said, once the story shifts to 0068, things get quite good. For those that read the manga, it pretty much follows the first half of Volume 1. The episode ends with Casval and Artesia leaving Munzo. It follows the manga mostly the same from that point on. Minor stuff here and there, like Gihren playing Go when he speaks with Kycelia rather than gardening. The ova does seem to spell out more heavy handedly that Kycelia killed Sasro. But again, if you read the manga you know what to expect.

Production values-wise....well, it's definitely a step down from Unicorn. It mostly looks nice, but when there is CGI, it is kind of distracting. Especially for scenes like Ramba driving. But the CGI isn't terrible, just unfortunate. Definitely looks cheaper than Unicorn for sure.

Musically, it's not bad. Definitely not as memorable as Unicorn, but still effective at building an atmosphere. I hate to keep comparing it to Unicorn, but seeing as how it is the most recent OVA those comparisons are inevitable. One the plus side, the ending theme was pretty nice.

Noticing a few parallels to Arion.
Kycillia was Athena and Dozle was Ares. Deikun kind of reminded me of the cowardly Zeus that feared power being taken from him. Of course Casvul was Arion. You can tell that Yoshikazu Yasuhiko wrote the story.

Deikun thought he was some sort of space messiah. lol He would probably have been okay with the Zabi family using him as some sorrt of martyr to fuel their efforts in the eye's of the people. So Ghiren wasn't the first brother Kycillia killed. Sayla was a super cute little girl. It was pretty heartbreaking at times because she didn't really understand what was going on.
I thought it was really good, but it's weird seeing a origin story that has no Tomino involvement. There was a slight comedic tone which doesn't necessarily fit with the original Gundam.

The Origin was even better than I was hoping. That was really great. The majority of it features the best character in the One Year War being awesome.
reboot gundam with ramba ral as the main character please. RAMBO RAL

So, what part of the manga does The Origin Episode 1 cover? Looking at the preview, it seemed like it was picking pieces all over the flashback arc. Also don't recognize the unit in the Episode 2 poster, but that may be because I'm late and my eyes aren't working right.

Definitely checking it out tomorrow.

Mostly the first half of volume 5. The beginning takes place at Loum though.
