The Official NeoGAF MotorStorm Thread

Just picked it up (Last one at EB, I got an opened "New" copy with a box they were using as a display.) but can't play it right now. I'd like to play tonight if someone would organize a decent sized session.

What's awesome about Motorstorm online and friends is there is no friends list. You also can't access the XMB as we all know to check your FL, so therefore it's pretty much a pain to get somebody to play with unless it's all pre-planned.

And yeah... that's awesome :/

I hate to bag on the game because the core gameplay is damn near perfect, but the online features are like something from the year 2002. Its like they handed this off to a junior programmer and told him to build an online setup for this game. I wonder if there's anything that can be added or fixed later. For Christ's sake, they could at least give us password protected rooms so that we could play with people we know.
 
Is it me or did they up the single-player difficulty for the U.S. release. I unlocked most everything in the JPN import and it wasn't near this hard. I'm struggling just to win a race.
 
This game is awesome. It is the most immersive experience I have had in a racing game. The freaking sense of scale is so great when you are rushing down the track in your Big Rig crushing those puny ATVs. And I have not gotten bored of the track/vehicle selection yet.

It's starting to piss me off that you don't really have any options online. You can't kick anybody, you can't put a password on your room or make it private, mics going in and out or stop working completely? WTF.

It doesnt work AT ALL with the logitech driving force pro. God, so pissed.
In the demo the steering worked, but the pedals didnt.

someone tell me theirs works and im just a moron....
 
Just got home from work with it, gonna catch up on the Home news before I try it out. And of course I'll be on for tonights game. Think I'll have to watch Lost in the morning.
 
I am love, love, LOVING this game. Played it for an hour and can't wait to play more. We'll see what happens after the honeymoon phase passes...
 
Well, just for stragglers and such, at 8:45 PM EST, I will be making a room on US Central 3 called "GAF. GAF only." Hop in there and we'll have some fun.

So yea just played my first race and had a lot of fun. Gonna hop online now just cause I can't wait to race everyone. I'm sooo gonna own 12th spot all night and there is nothing anyone can do about it :(.

There are multiple servers, does someone want to pick a server and game name so we know which one to join? It was up to US 3 last time I was on.
 
So sometimes my mic works, sometimes it doesn't. And in the last race I KNOW WE ALL HAD HEADSETS but there was no voicechat going on. I think I'll play some offline now. I do hope this gets fixed... dealing with the borked way of setting up online races is fine if everything works okay, because it is a lot of fun, but there's definitely something missing without voicechat.

Bah, I gave up before I read this and went ahead and started uoloading the Little Big Planet trailer to Youtube. I probably won't be on again tonight (New South Park in 30 minutes anyway) but it was fun playing with everyone. I'd like to try some more tomorrow.
 
I have my mic hooked up, it works in resistance, but I cant get it work in Motorstorm. I didnt check the options, do I have to turn it on or anything?
 
Yeah my mic was dropping quite a bit.

And I suck ass at this game. I thought I'd be ready after playing a lot of the JPN import, but I've finished dead last or close to it in every GAF race so far :(

I think I found a good tag for my name. Stuck at Zero
 
So basically, here are my thoughts:

Utterly fabulous gameplay, gorgeous graphics, completely borked online structure. Once we got into a game (and the room didn't explode), that was some of the most fun I've had online. Shame about the mics.

Man, battling JB on a bike on that Rock Hopper track was AMAZING.
 
OK Thread title needs to be changed to Beember and JJasper will kick your ******** arse :lol. Nothing like having these two bully you while on a bike and knock you into no man's land. Besides mic we need some kind of friends list, when we got seperated had no way of telling that the room moved to US 4.

After a good 3 hours with it on line and off here is what I think:
-I suck
-Who ever thought it was a good idea to not have text chat in the lobby is stupid
-The sound quality on the mic is great (better than Resistance) when it works
-The game is all kinds of fun
-I really suck
-I am glad they show you what race you are about to do in the lobby so you can pick your car/bike/atv accordingly even though I still don't know which on is best for what
-No in game buddylist (at least that I know off) booooo
-Knocking someone off a cliff, and completely running over someone yeay
-The track variety is nice even if it is only 8 (I think)
-Is it just me or whenever you hit someone that is wrecked you wreck even if you shouldn't?
-Did I mention I sucked
-When everything gets going it is incredible though

The lobby system and online functionality of this game is very lacking. I'm severely dissappointed that I held out for the US release of this game. A friends list!? Private Matchs??? Invites??? Is that really to much to ask for?

I resorted to using my PC and my 360 tonight to voice chat and find my friends in the game. Not to mention that in most of the games with over 6 people the opponent vehicles were jumping all around the track. We finally conceeded that the friend invites and whatnot will be part of the Home platform and that Motorstorm is built to support it. If it's not, then there is no excuse for this...absolute abomination. I shouldn't have to go into an Uno room on the 360 and play my PS3 with my 360 headset to voice-chat and find my friends. I'm really ticked off that none of the reviews I've read mentioned this as well and now I feel shafted out of $60.

Man i loved flying past you on the games i was in. That was fun.
 
I was going to pick up the game today, but then couldn't get out - too much work.

I'm hoping to have it in the next couple of days so I can play on the weekend.
 
I could probably give you guys a good run for your money. My PSN is AVclub. Maybe I can get in on some racing with you guys tomorrow night?

I echo this statement.

The game is fun but really Sony, How many times are you gonna **** up multiplayer in your games? All I want to do is play with friends and you only make it easy in one of your games. This has to stop or Ill be forced to stick to my 360 for my online entertainment.

That last race I played was very weird, the whole race I was in 5th behind Kittonwy and when it was over I finished 1st even though my screen said 5th. Got my first win according to my stats :lol.
