i got a message telling me that i got everything, now all item levels and 1up levels are opened all the time so you can get as many items as you want, thats about it no secret ending or anything else

Just got the game and the wii is making me do a system update. Will this mess up my wii? Im confused about the whole 4.1 thing and if its safe to update.

Do you have CFW? I've been loading the game through Gecko OS 1.9.2 and have had no problems, if that's what your asking. If your not and going the official firmware route, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Like a fine wine, I'm enjoying this slowly. Just star coin completed Stage 2 (with nearly 90 lives) and will be working on Stage 3 tomorrow. Stupid work, I wanted to play this all day today...

How well does Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) hold up? I got 500 Wii points free with my pre-order of NSMB.Wii and I don't want to buy any more points so I am getting a 500 point NES game. How is the difficulty of SMB3? Can you save progress, or is it one of those start at 1-1 every time you play games?

Just got done playing SMB3. It holds up VERY well, the graphics and gameplay are still acceptable. However, I really do think that NSMB Wii is a better game overall.

Yeah, screw the haters, I love this game's looks. Nothing special, but perfect for the type of game it is.

Almost done with World 8. Worlds 1-5 were like "Man, this game is great!" Worlds 6-8 were like "OH MY G--... this game is great!"

Just finished World 6, all Star Coins collected so far up to this point.

I don't know if it's just me getting used to the controls or what, but Worlds 5 and 6 felt noticeably easier than the previous worlds, especially getting the Star Coins.

Still a lot of fun, and the castles continue to impress. They really went all out on their designs.

Cool secret I found in World 6's final castle:
In the last section, if you can make it to the question block above the floating platform, jump on top of it really quickly (before the spiked balls destroy it/kill you) and jump up again to reveal a hidden star block. Makes that section a little less hectic, if you're quick
.

First Impressions From The Most Important Man On The Internet:
Got the game around 10:00. Started playing around 10:30. Finished game at about 12:00. Wii Message Board says 1:45 but that's going to include the install time (which was pretty short, game is only 540 megs), downloading the box art, answering a phone call, and I played around a little bit after watching the credits and re-loading my save file.

1-1 1-2 1-3 5-1 5-2 5-Fort 5-4 5-Ghost 8-1 8-2 8-3 8-4 8-5 8-6 8-Airship 8-Bowser
what up.

I did like that after beating Bowser
you have to do that platforming section. Nintendo, except for the Super Mario World final fight, has never managed to make a boss battle that's really both been tough and lengthy, and giving up entirely and deciding to go with the platforming worked out pretty well
.

Music sucked; it's not the composition, it's the instrumentation. Some of the midi samples are just ghastly. Their attempt at, I don't know, a pipe organ?, in the airship theme is... I mean, wow.

So far it's fun and there are a few neat tricks in the levels. Liked crossing the bridge in world 8 and being forced into a little mini-level where I had to dodge some fireballs. Reminded me of SMB3 with the hands grabbing you. Got most of the coins in the levels I played. I'd definitely put my quick playthrough above Sunshine and Lost Levels, on par with NSMB / SML1. Hoping that the extra content in terms of playthrough videos, unlockable coins, and
World 9
as well as the Toad rescues will really cement it as a Super Mario entry.

Why is everything either circular or sinusoidal though?

I didn't recognize many names in the credits.

And within minutes I realise why I take forever to finish Mario games, i'm shit at them and they're too punishing leaving me totally angry and stressed...

edit: And that's why I always go back, because when you beat that cunt of a spot there's nothing better. Fuckin' Mario...

seems as though this game can't be played off of a USB drive :(

hope that homebrewers find a way around this soon.

it works fine off my hard drive. download the latest configurable from the hb thread, and play it like normal.

So you've played three worlds? What the hell is the point?

While I may be crazy, you would of most likely had more fun if you played though all 8 worlds, not skip as many as possible.

I used to by psyched to find warp zones...but these days, it seems like it's better to play all the worlds.

QUESTION:

If I quick save, is the save there next time I boot the game or its a complete failure of a feature since I would need to not turn off the game?

Exactly. I found the warp from World 6 to Wold 8 and thought "Screw this, I'm going back to play World 7."

Just picked up the game today and managed to play it a bit after work. I've completed world 1, collected all of the star coins and have played my way through a few of the levels in the second world. So far this game is hitting all of the notes that New Super Mario Bros. on the DS missed for me. I think a big part of that is simply dolling out the newer power ups on a regular basis in every level. That and they're just so damned fun to use.

I can't wait to get some multi-player sessions going on.

For the power ups, I love Ice Flower the best. While the Penguin suit adds more, the Ice Flower is far more common, and acts as a beefed up Fire Flower in most cases. The propeller hat is also pretty fun, but I have to say I almost like using the propeller block more.

There are some people over on the IGN Wii Lobby having some photoshop fun with the game art. I'd love to see some of the talented Gaffers take a stab at it.

Propeller for me. Damn, it is nice. That little block was a real surprise. My favorite from Galaxy was the spring.

I should have specified that I don't believe in backtracking or warping. Game is short enough as it is.

Yeah, when I open the game, i'm just going to play like Galaxy. Make sure to 100% a world before moving on to the next.

I am right now running though the worlds in a single path, just because I want to see how the game ends before I get it spoiled. I'll go back for the other levels and star coins after.

i've been using configurable USB loader all this time, but it still doesn't work. should I be using the hermes IOS instead?

Edit: just tried IOS 222/223. Didn't work. I wonder what the problem is...

Picked up the game tnite. wonder if I should try the game before bed? Or should I play when I get home later in the day?

EDIT: WTF happened to my 'member' tag and avatar? :/

If it's the only game that doesn't work, why not play it off your disc? From what I read, it won't delete your homebrew.

yeah, it's not a huge deal if i can't get it, but still, it annoys me :lol

did you update it to the latest version? 48a? it was released 24 hrs ago

ah, i did not know this. Is it possible to update within the app, or do i need to bust out the SD card?

edit: nvm found it

its possible to update in the app, just go into global options (press 1 twice i think???) check for updates and grab the latest one.

still not working. are there any special settings i should apply for the game to boot properly?

it gives me the "error, please remove disc and turn off power etc etc" message when i try to start it.

It's short enough that a few posters in this thread have beaten it in one sitting (not me).

Well, this never was a good identication for game lenght. Some people are super fast + without a life really.

I do SMB3 in one sitting, level by level and it's in no way "short". More like "perfect lenght".

.

It's all been said already, but I'm blown away.

I can easily see this being a game I'll revisit 20 years down the road, not unlike the other mainline Mario games.

This isn't a feeling I ever had with NSMB DS, the stage layouts are just so much more fun.

100% completed, and in co-op from start to finish. Game's pretty fuckin' nice.

World 8-7 is amazing with 4 players. Also, hatless Mario is class.

actually a really good point. I was worried about this, mainly becuase of the convenience of the USB loader. But I could leave the disc in the Wii all the time, which means you still have the convenience of the USB loader (no switching discs)

Any issues leaving a disc in the wii (vertical) when you power off?

Hurry up Friday!
