The Official Okami Thread of Awesome

You know, I forgot about the intro...

I absolutely HATE when developers handle intro sequences in that manner. When you first pop in the disc, that intro plays. My first time playing the game, I read the whole thing. Cool, it was a nice intro.

Then I hit start a new game and, guess what? The same intro plays. I never know whether or not I should skip the initial introductions as I don't wish to miss anything...but when you end up having to watch it twice, I feel that it is a tad annoying.

:lol That's exactly what Megaman ZX does! Annoyed the crap outta me too.

Ha ha, that's right. I fell into the same trap as well.

Damn it, Capcom, stop doing that!

In the second half of the intro when Sakuya is talking to Amaterasu (sp?), did anyone's music keep crapping out or perhaps was there no music at all? It seemed fine before and after but I hope I don't have a defective disc =(.

The Buddha Board is packaged nicely surprisingly. It will look good on GAF display cases :D . And GS was right about the intro, emotional from the start.

I got it, just recieved the Brush Slash or whatever its called. Only complaint is the annoying gibberish voices, otherwise, this game will rock many pairs of socks.

BTW - Did they leave the "sake" as sake? Or was it wine? I don't remember, actually, as it's been so long. Heh.

It's "sake."

"Sake Brewer" etc

also :lol @ the singing old lady doing laundry in the river

I'm buying too many games lately. Can't decide between this or rocket slime! Although the price difference between the two is rather embarrasing all things considered.

Ah crap, and I passed on preordering it because I thought it was some piece of paper crap. I'm on the prowl for collectables, too.

Did anyones PS2 go ape shit when Okami
cut the fruit down restoring the town
? The audio and video kept stuttering as if it couldn't keep up with the scene. It's only happened in that one scene.

I hope my lens is fine...

nah, mine is fine so far

Wow, I called Gamestop, Best Buy, Hastings, and Target today. None of them have it, and two said they wouldnt even be getting it until the 29th or some shit.

I'm not really a fan of some of the animated scenes. The combination of the jittering and the clipping bother me, but outside of those scenes, it's beautful. ANd the back of the instruction manual has a gorgeous painting. Check it out.

my local ebgames seemed to have at least ~12 copies, but i'm not sure if any of them were pre-orders. I doubt it, though, 'cause they were keeping all Okami pre-orders under the register.

My local Gamestop didnt seem to have any clue what it was. Then I was put on hold for a couple minutes, then told they didnt have it. Best Buy was the same, didnt have any idea what it was, then I was on hold and they came back with a 'no'. Target + Hastings said they wouldnt have any till the 29th for some reason.

Went to Best Buy and they didn't have it but I did get Trauma Center though :)

But luckily the Gamestop near me just got a whole box full. Picked it up for only 39.99! Nice!

IT lived up to the hype. People need to see this game in motion, it's beautiful.

Combat question: How the hell do I get
enemies to turn black so i can use my brush blade?

In my experience, it's random, some will turn that way from attacking, others wont and will just die.

The first time you use Sakigami's brush technique really embodies the line "it feels like a koala crapped a rainbow in my brain." WOW.

Basically, when you're trying to solve a puzzle your comrade, Issun, aka Navi jr. tells you how to solve the puzzle. I don't want that shit. Please lemme do it on my own.

There's way too much dialouge for this type of game, and too much hint giving. Stfu and let me play.

I've played 2 hours and Issun are 100 x worse than Navi.

Other than that, the game is pretty solid. Amaterasu and a really good character despite not talking. I love how she falls asleep when people talk to her.:lol

The help tips go away as you get further in. The first 5-10 hours are pretty intro-ish because the game is so huge.

Every enemy has a weak point and you're supposed to figure out the "correct" way to beat them to get the tooth.

This game is as great as expected...but I had no idea it was going to be this funny.

The game is the funniest game I've played since Shadow Hearts 2. It's great because the humor is so deadpan; some of the stuff is total genius :)

I had to stop and stare at the game when I first walked up to an animal and had the option of Feed or Bite. Not sure if that is supposed to be as funny as it is to me, but I had a good chuckle from that.

And the Bear rolling on the Sphere!

seriously the first 4 hours or so of this game, even with handholding, is more inspired than practically anything i've played last gen.

This shit is god damn brilliant.

I have yet to see a single unattractive area, and I doubt I ever will.

SO BEAUTIFUL

AND FUN

AND FUNNY

So my GameStop had my reserve and the game racks were spared from me knocking them over.

I'm still inside the tree, but everything is so damn trippy right now. I can't stop slashing things in half with my slashing technique.

In the options menu, what the hell does the LCD option do?

Been playing a few hours now. Wow.

Honestly. So much fun, so beautiful, and the core gameplay is isnanely great. So long as the story and quests keep up this is true GotY material. We'll see how in unravels.

Anywho, just to check, since I've avoided really reading anything in hear for fear of spoilers, are we keeping it to a minimum?

Aaand, during one of the intro movies the sound cuts in and out. Anyone else notice it?

Lastly, what's the LCD TV mode for? I mean, obviously it's for LCD TVs, big shock, but what's it change? Was pretty surprised to see it, simply because it's not exactly common.

Make sure to help out the old lading washing clothes at the starting town and follow the quest through :)

yeah that was one of the first things i did. I thought that was pretty clever the whole thing. And like I said,
hearing her little singing while she was doing the laundry is some high class polish
.

WTF? How long is the main story. :lol :lol :lol

I'm so digging this game. I'm taking a break cause my eyes are watering out and plus the hockey game is on now. I also have to make dinner at some point.

I am so digging the animation and the sheer beauty of the game. It literally is like playing inside a painting.

Thank god I'm not the only one. Could it be due to certain PS2 models? Not everyone seems to be experiencing it. I only had one instance of this happening. But then again, I loaded the game onto HDLoader to minimize the load times. I don't know if it cures it.

Well, it's been looping as I've taken a break, and it hasn't happened again. Odd, really. Hopefully it was a one time thing. I really hope it doesn't occur during actual gameplay.

Edit: Just happened a tiiiny bit at the end this time. Hmm.

i just picked it up at Toys R Us in a Montreal burb

yah, Cananda, it's out! (usually Capcom games are late by three days here due the manual)

but first, must eat

I've never experienced anything anomolous during gameplay, just that one time during the opening scene. And it happened for about 10 seconds! I was afraid my disc was scratched but it never occured again.

Though after the
fruit cutting releasing the village
i haven't experienced any jitteriness from the cutscenes.

I was frustrated that Futur Shop and BestBuy here in Ottawa didn't have it. Then I went to EB games and they were making calls saying that the person's copy of Okami were in (pre-orders). I asked if they had any copies for sale and the guy said yup! But they didn't have the box out on display and it appeared that they only had 2-3 copies left.

I just got lucky!
