The Official Okami Thread of Awesome

Having just ordered BG&E from Amazon due to the killer sale, I'll be buying Okami either:

1. as soon as I finish BG&E
2. Day 1, if already finished with BG&E or if it hasn't arrived yet.

I've been hyped on this game since I played it at e3 the first time (3 e3s ago, IIRC).

Hideki Kamiya is one of the greats. Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe. I would have even bought this without seeing the sublime screenshots.

Just saw the trailer; that was awsome!

I'm also loving 1UPs week long coverage, I liked the Monday article (and with a little tinkering to the URL I got the Tues. and Weds. article too.) =P

I don't think necessarily they meant to say Okami's characters have more "character", just to say that Okami at the very least equals Zelda in these respects.

that is exactly what I meant. and as far as the graphics comment went, I should have worded that with less of an attack tone towards zelda. ww is clean and pretty, okami is detailed and pretty.

Heh, I didn't really take it as an attack... let's face it, these series are gonna be compared a lot. It's perfectly fine to have a preference, really... I love them both though.

Glad to hear it's really good though, everyone seemed pretty positive.

Long live PS2 10 year life cycle!!!

Of what is left I think Okami will probably be the best of the bunch. However, I absolutely can not wait to get my hands on Yakuza, Guitar Hero II, Final Fantasy XII or God of War II either. There really is no reason to go next gen until mid 2007.

I don't see this has been mentioned yet, but is it know if it has widescreen or progressive scan support?

Considering what other cell shaded games look on my HD-TV (aka Dragon Quest VIII and Celda), I shudder to think what it will look like without progressive scan. I don't want this visual masterpiece to be ruined by it, so I may have to move my PS2 to a standard TV in my house.

the website has wonderful music

Yup, that's from the game. The whole thing is pretty much one big audio/visual/gameplay master-****ing-piece. If you have ever loved a Zelda game, Okami will rock your world. BUY TWO COPIES AND GIVE ONE TO A FRIEND!!!

I'm so excited
And I just can't hide it

This and Viva Pinata are two games this year that I am determined to buy because I want games like that to exist. I want fun/cute/creative games on my Xbox 360 and I want beautiful/creative adventure games on my PS2. So I will preorder this and give them my $40 and write about it and make sure everyone knows this game exists. Thank you Capcom for bringing this to America.

I think it'll be funny when Okami and Zelda fans end up at each other's throats after each game launches. (almost as funny as the Resistance/Gears battle that's bound to occur for no apparent reason).

Okami will be the first new PS2 game I've bought since last year. I can't wait.

HYPE HYPE HYPE. Anyone looking for specific questions, feel free to ask me (unless it has to do with the US translation, as I played the JP version).

I will mark all answers with spoiler tags.

How long? :)

And do you get cool unlockables? Like, you know, an Art Gallery?

Here's a really simple one. I try to avoid pretty much all previews/videos beyond what gets me hyped enough to buy a game. Frankly, I've seen enough of Okami to know I'll love it.

How large are the environments in this game?

Expansive, beautiful and colorful. Segments of the world connect in an organic fashion, and the landscape is varied and natural. There are several areas in the game that are wide open landscapes, including the first major area of the game. Really awe inspiring stuff.

My game clock hit 47 hours. BudokaiMR2 hit 55 hours. He spent a lot of time doing dick all. :P

There are a HOST of unlockables. Your unlockables are based on your rating in a number of factors, including how many enemies you killed in the game, how many power ups you got, how long you played the game, how many extra bosses you faced, etc. The game rewards you for doing absolutely everything.

God I hate to ask this again since I did it two posts above, but since you said you are answering questions: Did the JP version have widescreen and/or progressive support?

Does the official site act screwy for anyone else? I can't get the video to load in Firefox and the entire site is bugged in IE.

The JP version had neither, as far as I remember. Sorry. :(

I'm actually more excited about this game than Yakuza now.

I love both Okami and Ryu Ga Gotoku, but...who in their right mind would be more excited for RGG in the first place?

I think the english VA in Yakuza is what turned me off, but i'm still looking forward to it. I am a huge Shenmue fan, and i heard a lot of good things about RGG. To me Okami is like a breath of fresh air though, with the beautiful artstyle and all.

Man, I didn't hear that before... my demand increasing yet more.

Doesn't sound too long then, I was actually expecting 100hrs of gameplay with the way people talk about its length.

This won't be hitting PAL stores anytime soon. I must import.

I've bought my first ps2 to play this game. Now I just have to wait several months until it's released in Europe (early 2007?).

:-(

Any word on what's in store for us shlubs in PAL areas?

Early 2007 like Stalker said and honestly, I don't think I can wait that long. This game is gonna make me buy one of those swapdisc dealies. That way I can finally play VP2 and some other rpg's we don't get. Getting shafted gaming-wise = living in Europe

I wonder if I'll be able to import it if I bought a PS3

They'll probably make a swap disc for the PS3 to enable it play import PS2 games too. I know I can also play import PS1 games with another kind of swap disc.

Sadly I can't get this. PS2 games look like shit on my HDTV. Even with Component. SOTC only looks slightly better than shit, but still shit.

*sigh*

Unless someone can prove me wrong? Maybe Okami will look nicer? Nicer than shit? Hope? This should be ported to the 360. Now!

Okami looks great on my HDTV, maybe wait until it comes out and get some other impressions, but I was stunned by how amazing it looks. Okami is a really beautiful game.

Okami is comparable to Zelda:OoT for me in that I've been pouring over any screenshots I could get my hands on in fevered anticipation - it's like late 1998 again, only this time I have the internet to feed me.

It looks so beautiful - I'm extremely pleased with myself in managing to hold off from importing the Jpn release; I want to savour everything.

Disgaea 2 will probably own my soul for the next few weeks following it's release, so I won't have time for Okami :/

Don't blame me, blame NISA's timing!

I have tried on IE and Firefox and the trailer just won't load. This sucks, I wanted to see if it was as awesome as described.

I think we have the demo disc at my store with Okami on it. Since our PS2 display is how you say "Forgotten by the wayside by Sony themselves." and hasn't been updated in over a year and a half, I just put one of the Jampacks in it. I'll borrow it and try it out on my TV tomorrow.
