Is there deathmatch on this? Would love to buy copies for my sons and i and play it on our 3 switches
Doom and Doom II both offer local 4-player deathmatch and local 4-player co-op.

I think that's same-screen only, however.

Oh wow, that's terrible. At least they're patching it out, but it shouldn't have been there to begin with.
It takes round 2 minutes to create a Bethesda account then you are good to go for all three games,it's good news they are patching it, but it's a minor issue at best.

"You just need to enter a phony email address one time, and that's it. People acting like this is some massive hassle or invasion of privacy are stretching things too far.
Also, apologies to "poopooboner2929@hotmail.com" for signing you up with Bethesda."

Awesome post from a member on the Nintendo life forum on the same subject.

But isn't the issue that you need to be connected to the Internet to play, thus removing the ability to take it on the go with you?

I suppose I am not that bothered because I do not take my Switch outdoors, but they are fixing it so it won't matter to anyone.

After the first login it apparently doesn't ask for it ever again. Offline or online.
I had read this somewhere but was not sure, but I am pretty sure once they have your account set up it bypasses the option from then on,if true a minor issue at best.

Why can't they remake Doom 1 and 2...…….??? That would be swell....
Absolutely loved Doom 2016, but I was thinking of a remake more in line with the original aesthetic, something similar to a very impressive DOOM HD MOD I saw recently...
How do you remake the original Doom in a way that preserves the feel of the original? It's a game that was very much of a product of it's time and it just doesnt feel like it would work if you simply kept the generic hallways that worked at the time, but wouldn't work today. Granted, I still have a blast with the original Doom, but the appeal to a modern day audience would be very limited.
You don't see Doom 2016 as an attempt?
This is the correct answer. Doom 2016 is pretty much the closest thing you can get to a modern day version of Doom.

Slightly off topic but does anyone know if there are any PC versions of Doom 1 and 2 that run at 60fps?. The other week i was playing the BFG version and the 35fps framerate was making my eyes bleed. Those versions have controller support though so i may end up just sticking with them.

You need to throw your Doom wad/s at one of the many sourceports to get a higher framerate.

For keeping that original, more accurate experience but with the higher fps, I recommend Crispy Doom.
For pushing the original graphics higher with some extra bells and whistles, go with GZDoom.

Man, I remember downloading that prototype. I could barely run it, lmao. But I was SO stoked. Same thing happened around the time DOOM 3 dropped. I was BARELY able to run it at average specs.

I got DOOM 3 on Switch over the weekend, and as you'd imagine, it's pretty wild playing it on a handheld. Especially when it looks as good as it does and runs as good as it does. Highly recommend!

Man, it really would've been cool if they could've invested a bit more time in these ports to add online multiplayer/co-op. The DOOM 3 co-op that was on Xbox was actually REALLY solid. Would've loved to have had something like that in these ports.

Can I just say how much it bothers me that DOOM II uses roman numerals but DOOM 3 is just a regular 3. I mean, seriously why did they do that.
Lol it bothers you? It looks super badass. The way the logo fits together. Would have looked nowhere near as cool with a 2.

It bothers me that they switched from roman numerals to a regular 3 because it's not consistent, it has nothing to do with how bad ass it looks. Imagine if Final Fantasy started out using roman numerals, but then in a later entry started using regular numbers, it wouldn't look right sitting next to past entries. DOOM 3 to me doesn't look right next to DOOM II. I feel the same way about Mario Kart.

Either stick with it or don't use it at all imo.

The only thing I can think of is maybe they did it because technically it's a reboot/remake, but we weren't at that dumb period quite yet where we were just naming games and movies with the same name as the original. So maybe as a way to maintain the numbering but separate it? Nah, I'm probably thinking too far into it TBH.

Anyway, thanks Hollywood for Halloween (1978), Halloween (2007), and Halloween (2018).

I remember seeing that exact footage at Quakecon of that year. In a big room theater.
I think DOOM III might be the last time I was truly like "holy shit this changes everything" in regards to new video game technology. I've had a lot of "oh damn" moments since then, but that was just like...I dunno, just seeing objects in the environment move and react to players and enemies, it was such a big deal then.

I agree. Very few things that get shown this day and age are really surprising in terms of tech. Ray tracing is a big thing on paper, but looking at it doesn't have near the wow factor as Doom 3 did.

How’s the trophies for the first game?
Good few easy golds and an easy enough platinum. Finishing the 4 episodes on any difficulty will net you 4 gold trophies, and killing the cyber demon with a pistol gets you another. You'll need a second controller for the plat though, to get 100 kills in deathmatch and finishing the game on nightmare in co-op.

I remember GBA Doom in 2001, only 8 years after original which was mind melting in 1993.

I'm more impressed by that handheld port considering it's been 14 years since Doom 3, nearly double the timeframe.

They removed Doom (360), Doom II (360), and Doom Classic Complete (PS3).

So the last of the better ports of classic Doom’s are gone (unless you snag PS3/360 Doom 3 BFG), and these shoddy ports they desperately need to overhaul are what console gamers have going forward.

Bethesda, fix your trash.

Never played Doom 3, any good? I'm trying to decide between playing it in 4K on the Xbox One X or handheld for Switch... Hmmm... What say you Gaf?

Honestly, considering the games age, I don't know if 4K is gonna do a whole lot. It's pretty damn amazing on Switch though! Handheld too!

If you have nice, big 4k set, go X1X. It holds up really well even though it's old, the narrow corridors really helped back then.

Still no sign of an update for the Switch 'sign into Bethesda account' crap popping up every 10 seconds if you get disconnected from the net. I'm gonna put money on this never being patched out.

I recommend the Switch version as it is one of the few FPS to actually look good with native res and 60 fps on it. You have plenty of other FPS on Xbox.

Doom 3 is a disappointment.

The pistol sucks, no melee, the shotgun is too Slow. In general the gameplay feels bad.

It’s all graphics over gameplay. Doom 1+2 on switch are both great even with the shitty login requirements.
