The search for BIOSHOCK, help gaffers out

Just checked every store in town (TRU, FYE, Wal-Mart, EBStop, Target, and Sam's), and no one's got it.

I would be angry, except that while I was at EB, I decided to finish paying off my preorder for Halo 3 LE and was told that it was already paid off. Lol. I don't remember doing that, but sweet.

Just checked my TRU, no luck. gonna keep on trying, if anyone can find a TRU selling in the Twin Cities area in MN let me know.

Success at the TRU at the Dayton Mall, Ohio. Best scenario as well. They had two copies left so myself and this younger guy who was also waiting outside when they opened got the two copies. Two other people were in line for Wii's (which they just got that morning) so all in all fun time. While I was being rung up the phone rang three times to see if they had Bioshock. Glad I made the trip.

I also got the Madden Half off other game deal on top of the 20% off coupon (Madden came to $47 and Bioshock was $30.) Well worth the two hours drive time to get there. Now onto some yard work and I go to work this evening.

Just called another TRU close by and they had 7 people at the store asking for it, but they don't even have it in stock yet.

Funny, I just tried the Minnetonka, MN location. No BioShock.

Walked away with Madden 360 and Mario Strikers Charged for $78 total, though. :D

OK, for all those that are going to have to wait for Aug 21, go do yourself a favour and read either The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged. Or, at the very least, read Ayn Rand's (Andrew Ryan - get it?) wiki entry:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayn_rand

Second this, it will greatly inform your perception of the game if you're unfamiliar with her work or at least her philosophy.

Not bullshit. A Toys R Us near me is like this too. The policy depends on the store, according to them.

Not true, all TRU's still sell M titles. However, you will not see a clamshell of a Rated M game on the shelf at TRU, it's company policy that they keep them behind the counter.

This situation is not the fault of the publisher or MS; but I still feel like blaming them.

The game is obviously being sold. Some executive needs to get on the phone, and let the release date of the 21st whither away.

Are they more worried that their ad campaign schedule is rigidly followed? Or will we just admit, the hype is there and that the fans are waiting, pressed against the glass, with dollars in hand?

Keep playing your commercials...but let us buy the game. What is the net difference anyway? People with pitchforks 'cause they show up on the 21st and it's already sold out? This line of thinking presupposes that: 1) they didn't make many, and 2) people just give up and never return.

Either way, it's going to sell out. I feel comfortable stating this. What does it matter on which date it achieves this? Let us buy the friggin' game, already.

Man, the official Cult of Rapture forums are going berserk right now.

Stories of people having bribed Gamestop/EB employees, people saying their EB is selling the game, stories of places like Fry's selling it this morning.

This whole thing is a clusterfuck.

I'm seriously wanting to ram my head through a wall. WHY GOD!

This is all the fault of that fucking toy Big Daddy. WHY AM I A CONSUMER WHORE!
Pick one up and go to your local GameStop with game + receipt in hand and ask them if you can purchase the Collector's Edition now since the street date was broken. If he seems hesitant simply remind him that you wish to give GameStop your patronage and if he's still not sure that he should call his District Manager to confirm.

It's flawed, but it is the fundamental reason. And angry customers are much more of a long term hassle then giddy satisfied ones and MS knows that "delaying" release to street date is not going to cost them a single one.

Until i can get my LE I am going to try to wait patiently and play madden 08. I want my big daddy figurine and the soundtrack.

Yea, I just hope NPD has a way of tracking this stuff, i.e., broken street date.

No, but Rapture is very obviously based on a setting in Atlas Shrugged. That setting is actually the entire point of the novel.

It would be pretty cool if there was an enemy in Bioshock named John Galt. That would be an awesome tie-in.

my toys r us says ' i dont know where all u people r getting thes rumors, the game can't be sold, it's not even in our systems, and we won't get any until the game until the 21st... I went on gamstop..gamespot a week ago and yup it said it was delayed'

That is, honestly, one of the loneliest TRU locations anywhere. What they were thinking when they decided to put it on a little-traveled frontage road, opposite Ridgedale and Best Buy and Target...I haven't a clue. And then that crap music instrument store to the left... No, I won't be paying ~$700 for your Fender knock-off.

It's only rivaled by the ghost town that is the TRU here in Salem, OR.

Neato. I'm about to head out to start moving in, but I'll check with them before I start.

Why wouldn't they be able to track it? Street date has nothing to do with it. It's all about inventory numbers in the stores, and store sales by sku. This won't have an effect on NPD numbers at all. Something GAF worries about way too much.

To the people saying to read Atlas Shrugged:

Is this doable in a week without straining myself? I read fast, but 1200 pages is still a lot. I finished Deathly Hallows in a day, but that was written in like 20 point font.

Also, from what I've randomly heard in philosophy classes, I don't agree with anything in these books. Would that cease any appreciation I could get from it?

I can't believe the amount of increased attention/visibility this game has gotten since the demo. Kudos.

come on now... you serious?

i don't remember the last time something important broke street date in canada

It happens all the time. I've seen it happen more in Canada than in the US.

So, still no statement from 2k at all? Interesting...

I'm about to head out to make my search. :D

Elizabeth, 2K's community manager, hasn't been on the CoR forums since last night.

But Irrational and 2K have been very good with their customer/fan relations so I would think they have to issue a statement or take some sort of action.

I read it in eight days during high school and it was absurd.

And I don't think you need to agree with Objectivism at all to appreciate Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead.

Heading to my TRU now. Wish me luck. If they have it I'll post the location in here or may be buy 2 copies and sell one to someone.

Gamestop just said they are not selling it no matter what, the guy told me they received an email from HQ not to break the street date.. I even told the guy I could slip in a few extra buck for him but he didn't break!

You're right, of course. This bile, it does not taste yummy. If I was at home, I would dull the pain with a little help from my friends in Le Jardin Mystérieux; aka, Viva Piñata.

Just called another Gamestop near by and he said that over 30 people have called the store asking for it and he just told me that if they confirmation to break the street date they will be sold. All the gamestops I called have it in stock so far, so I really need to get it.

Seconded, as people who have read earlier in the thread realize my opinion of Objectivism.

You don't have to buy-into her bunk to enjoy the books.

I am so confused how are some gamestops selling it and others not. I called and the guy told me august 21st no changed at all. Someone has to be lying because this doesnt make any sense.

I wouldn't try it. I (like a lot of high schoolers) was in love with this book years ago, and I read it four or five times over a period of five years. It's definately not something to be tackled in less than two weeks. I read it the first time in three weeks, and I remember being able to do it in a little less than two during the summer.

Employees simply slipping up and not reading e-mails from corporate. Take advantage while you can!

"They Lie. You have your pre-order yet? Its 5 bucks down and you get a whole buncha stuff with the game. It also guarantees you a copy of the game because your not going to find it earlier."
