The Spoony Experiment

I've still not played a table-top RPG, but even I know he's right. Your character doesn't need to be great stats wise to be great fun.

Is there a GAF thread for tabletop players? Might be some local to me.

Noticed his Patreon has really been going lower.

He hasnt put out any new content in months. How long ago was the Blak Hole of Board Game vote? Game reviews are pretty much gone. Even the vlogs dont seem to pop up as much.

I remember him saying a while back he was gonna slow down production to catch up on fufilling rewards, but that feels like a while ago.

He did a fair amount of Counter Monkeys that I liked.

Not quite true, because...

He did a fair amount of Counter Monkeys that I liked.

Same here. 7 new episodes in the past 2 months isn't bad at all.

Anyway, the reuploading of old videos on his main channel is just... Why?

It's strange to see the progression. For a while there he was producing some of my favorite content of any of online personality. Loved his Final Fantasy reviews and his Ultima retrospective gave me an appreciation for a series I never really played.

But then he got really into stuff like Counter Monkey and WWE which is great if you're into that, but it left a huge gap in his "programming".

And now his streams, without editing to cut out all the downtime and unfunny attempts at humor, can end up being really tedious. 5 minutes of staring at a menu screen while he figures something out.

Counter Monkey - What's an Anti-Paladin?

As someone who really got into Spoony via Counter Monkey I am very happy about his recent output, but I would like to see a new Final Fantasy review sometime. Maybe he has a circular season change now, seeing that he made basically only Wrestling a few months ago.

I'm liking the recent output too, but I got into Spoony from the FF8 review, and would love to see more of that kinda stuff. The board games, movie reviews, Counter Monkey & game reviews are all awesome, but...

This is just garbage. He's a terrible, terrible streamer.

I've always enjoyed his wrestling videos could never get into counter monkey. Wish he would pull a projared and commit to doing an official game or movie review once a month or bi-monthly

I got into Counter Monkey recently. Never played D&D but Spoony is entertaining enough to hold my interest and he must have a Ph.D. in D&D. Game looks really complicated.

I've been into Spoony from the beginning and wish he'd do more FF review. I've literally been looking forward to his FF13-2 review since the game was announced. If I have time tomorrow I'll dig up the post from the announcement thread and edit it here.

Spoony's over.

Heck, he doesn't even care about properly moving his old stuff to youtube.

Yup, came here to post exactly that.
Wanted to watch some of his old reviews, and apparently he didn't even care enough to reupload his blip stuff to another place.
Even though blip announced their shutdown ages ago. Just sad.

You do realize that the guy has repeatedly tried to put his old shit on YouTube, only to get slapped with copyright strikes? I can't exactly blame him for being discouraged.

Related: I remember hearing around the Blipocalypse that all the old Blip videos are being moved over onto the Maker player. I've heard basically nothing on that front since. Is that even still happening? Because if they do that all the issues would dry up.

Sorry to bump again but wow, nothing new since the last check 3 weeks ago. Has anyone been keeping track how his Patreon has changed since it started? The amount of content is probably the worst it has ever been AFAIK. And I love Counter Monkeys, can't even imagine the fans who don't (along with wrestling stuff).

Like, he doesn't neccessarily owe us anything but isn't this his full time job?

The best part about spoony is seeing this thread bumped. Will it be a new video? Will it be somebody whining that there are no new videos? Will it be both?

You never really know until you look

I haven't cared for a long time, but the complaints seem justified to me. His last edited review was Massacre at Central High (Feb 10/17), and the last one before that was Nightmare: Back in the Hole (Nov 18, 2014 - exactly one year ago).

Holy shit. I mean, I knew it had been a while, but that long? Wow... No wonder his Patreon has almost halved, haha.

The few CM's have been decent.

It's heartbreaking.

Dude has lost all his drive and passion it seems :(

His ultima stuff was soo good, And it's clear he just doesn't care anymore :( what happened???

No clue. The streams aren't even really comparable to say stuff like his ripper or phantasmagoria playthroughs.

Exactly. I fully watched his Phantasmagoria 2 streaming and that was entertaining, funny to watch. But those streams now, there's NOTHING funny, is literally like watching a random dude playing something.

He does a shit ton of Live Wire these days.
There are people who actually live off of streaming, so the question is are enough people watching him that he can just carry on like that if his Patreon numbers plummet well below 1K. I guess that his plan now, anyway.

Well, that sucks for me. I don't watch streams of any kind. Never was interested in them.

I no longer feel the urge to badger creators over making content. It'll come when it comes and not sooner than that. However, fifteen spoony is just done making edited reviews, I wish he'd make an announcement so that there isn't any reason for me to keep checking back in. He was one of the best online personalities at one point, and if he's done with that, I'm not going to hold it against him. But it'd be nice if it was clear where he stood on everything.

I actually had no idea Spoony was streaming regularly. It's not clearly marked on his website, and googling "spoony stream" gets me hitbox.tv and twitch accounts that aren't updated.

I heard from some friends that Spoony was streaming stuff and went to check it out, only to find it kind of disappointing. I can remember when I was a teenager and loved his stuff, but I guess that taste changes over time.

I was interested in rewatching some of his old stuff, only to find large chunks of it are missing. Does anyone know if there is a complete archive of his work? It seems strange to me that the only way to view the last half of his FF8 review (along with a bunch of other stuff) is with foreign subtitles.

No, in the case, Spoony is just s shitty streaming personality.

It's not you it's him. Watch his old stuff and you'll see it holds up just fine.

yep

He's streaming now and there's just barely over 100 people watching live. No way he's making any real money off that.

Also, being a good streaming personality is REALLY hard. Like you gotta be focusing on the game and be engaging your audience at the same time. That's tougher than it looks. Angry Joe does it right because he usually has someone with him when he streams. It's easier with multiple people.

Spoony actually makes me sad these days. He was one of the most entertaining reviewers on the net but it seems that since he's had his Patreon he's been happy to sit back and do nothing but boring streams. Are people still giving him money in the hope he'll produce new videos? If anything I'd say the opposite needs to happen; the money drying up might motivate him to actually produce some content.

Truth in that. Last time when made this little spree of Counter Monkey videos was when his Patreon dropped dangerously low. It's sad, really.
