The Trials HD Official Thread

The Unyielding achievement was one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done. Working out how to get across the level, making the small jumps, slowly reversing and accelerating; it was just a superb experience.

There's quite a few times when I've found myself in the top 200 for a level when I'm pretty sure I could do the level far tidier. Gives me a lot of hope for the longevity of this game.

Agreed, it felt so awesome finally getting the level perfect! I love the achievements in this game, well I doubt I will ever get the endurance one.:D

I just wish it saved the replay :(

Nice map mmarsu. Perfect difficulty for me and I liked the bells and whistles.

Thank you very much, my second map will be up in a few hours :). It's a little harder though I think.. But still very cool.

damn inferno2 is kicking my ass. managed to get through before the second timeout :lol half an hour and almost 500 retries without making it halfway through.. 264 faults 23:15.605 was the final stats. those loose spinning tractor wheels on the drop are fucking random. and the part right after that I was close to suiciding. three platforms and a tiny platform out in the huge pit of fire. fucking evil. this level is satan I hate you sebbbi

Ugh I know, I got past the tractor parts easily, but the three platforms and the two tiny platforms were too crazy. Everytime I passed those platforms I would just fall into an abyss. Sucks ass.

Sorry to be a dissenting voice, but this game really blows it in my opinion.

-long story cut short-

Just my two cents.

So why don't you start creating your own levels with a good flow in them?
You've got endless levels right there.

Oh man im crushed, i just spent like 2 hours lighting and tweaking my track and I guess the file size was too big or something but I lost all that time. I went to upload it but when I went to play it, it was missing a ton of stuff :( I dont want to start over :(

EDIT: Yea i had too many objects. :( Creators beware :D

Hmm wow I didn't know you could have too many objects O_o

-edit-

Jube3 what the fuck at the end of your level man. I can't even pass that shit and I finished 3 extreme levels -_- :(.

-edit2-

Lol nvm I actually finished it :lol . Yeah that was hard. Nice level though :D. 98 retries and 09:12.682

Am I suppose to be able to watch replays from the leaderboards? I only see a Gamercard and Back option when looking at scores, even the #1 ranks on friends & global.

You serious? Watching replays is the best part about the leaderboards....press Y.

Only the Leaderboard outside of the levels allow you to watch replays. The ones while you're playing a level don't give you that option.

Yup, this. I'm sure that's where the confusion lies, JRW.

The demo was a lot of fun, but I'm not going to bite at $15. At $10, it would have been a no-brainer.

The problem MS has is the value proposition is all screwed up with some of these titles. BF 1943 is far, far more game at that same price point. Splosion Man has a similar amount of content at $10, so that's the price that feels "fair" to me. Magic the Gathering, $10, same kind of deal (in fact, that one felt like it could have gotten away with $15).

Physics-based motorbike/puzzle games are nothing new. I can't recall the name of it, but I have a freeware version of this on my Mac. Granted, the graphics suck, but still, it's essentially the same game.

It really is a shame, the developers deserve success with their take on the genre. Greed is a bitch, though.

Based on the leaderboards... they've got it. It's no BF1943, but what is in terms of downloadable titles.

As for value, I've already put in about 8 hours and I haven't even started on the hard levels yet. :)

Amazon is going to sell it for $10. Might want to keep an eye out for it.

After everybody sees what they get for $15 with Shadow Complex, Trials is going to seem like even more of bad deal. Don't get me wrong, I'm having a lot of fun trying to top my friends leaderboard, but it really feels like a $10 experience.

I do, as I was also wondering how to view them. I was pausing the game in the actual level and then looking at the leaderboards, rather than going to the main menu and viewing them there.

I'm going to have fun watching some of the insane ones now. :D

I got an email from Amazon saying Trials was available to download and when I click the link, it's still not available. What a cocktease. >:(

No I can understand what you're saying. The speed and extreme jumps that are so prevalent in the first dozen tracks seem to come to an abrupt ending. The game just slows down after that because the designers decided to throw a bunch of shit in our way.
I just wish the difficulty ramped up because they created tracks in the later half where take offs and landings at high speeds were the norm instead of bunny hopping.
If I wasn't having so much fun with easy, medium and the minigames I would complain about the pricetag.
I can get top 500-2000 in the first 10 stages as I get the weight distribution along with speed but I just suck when it comes to those inclines and stop and go bunny hopping. =(

you know, it isn't that difficult to go fast on all the hard levels. just need some practice

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to buy Shadow Complex and I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but isn't that the game starting to generate criticism for "only" being a 4 - 8 hour experience with no new game plus? Unless it has a hidden level editor I'm not aware of, I don't see how that gives it much of a leg up on Trials HD.

Oh give me a break. I think Trials HD is well worth the fifteen bucks but how the hell do you figure?

I know there is some speed to be had there but it's just not to my liking. They've got my money, I'm having a blast with 75% of the game so it's all good.

In 2 days Trials has outsold Splosion Man's first week. It's right up there with Castle Crashers as one of the fastest selling XBLA games. The pricepoint hasn't hurt it one bit.

Are some of you guys kidding? This game has incredible value. Lots of levels, leaderboards, 12 skillgames, level editor. The level editor alone will keep me busy for weeks.

Yes Shadow Complex will be amazing too, and great value at 15$ but don't say that this doesn't.

Also :lol at the guy saying that BF1943 has more content than this game :lol . Don't get me wrong I like BF1943 but still.

Exactly. I just get a feeling that I will rack up more hours in Trials. Seems like it would be easier to jump into for 10 or 15 minutes. After I beat a game like shadow complex once or twice, its unlikely I'll play it much more. Unless the speed runs interest me, but that would be a first.

Finally beat Goin' Up! I'm never playing that level again.

I can't seem to get past the first real obstacle in Inferno II... You're supposed to hold a wheelie on the small platform and get enough momentum to get to the steep beam, but I cannot do it, even after watching the leaderboard vids.

imo Goin' Up and Inferno are the only 2 real Extreme levels. The other two could've easily fit in the Hard category.

the most important part of that jump is lifting the back wheel just as you touch off. there's a similar but more satan jump like that right at the end of the level. just got a nice 61 faults and 7:48.854 on inferno2 :O first extreme silver medal. hehe. that level is so awesome. the first time I got to a new obstacle I'm just laughing at the screen THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE got stuck on the steep hill part for some reason on the last playthrough now, never got stuck there before hehe

what a great level

yeah seriously. this game has got more value than any other xbla game and most retail boxed ones. wtf

Ah, son of a... I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more XBLA games for a while, then I tried the Trials HD demo and I'm having a hard time keeping myself from filling up on Allards to unlock the full game. It's freaking awesome. I used to love Kikstart 2 back in the day, this is exactly how I'd imagine it to be 'in the future'. So slick, too... so smooth.

Getting my ass kicked by a vertical board with a board fastened to it. I think I need to endo over it, but I'm finding it tough to keep balance.

i downloaded this demo to try it out since it looked awesome but i didn't have the scratch to get it right away. i started playing while my girl was in the room to see if she'd dig it or not (i knew she would). after playing all of the demo levels she's like, "damn, that's it?!". next day she fires up the demo again and we take turns doing the few levels and when we're done she says "fuck that, let's just buy it". i go to take a smoke break and when i come back she's buying Trials and Out-Run. God i love that chick.

anyway, the game is fucking fantastic. so damn challenging but with an instant restart button you can't help but have that "one more try" attitude. i haven't even gotten into the skill games yet and this is already one of my GOTY contenders. seriously, it's that good.

if anybody still has room on their friends list pls add me, gamertag: JAYPAH

I got the full game yesterday. It's so fucking fun! It gets really hard realy fast though, but I shall prevail!

lol you're not joking, Ive been shooting for Gold on each track and I'm currently struggling through the Medium tracks (but still having fun doing so oddly enough) I can only imagine the frustration that lies ahead!

Hmm. I kind of like the demo, seems fun. I'm not really willing to pay 1200 for it, though. Mostly because I only have 800 in my account right now. I'm going to mess around with the demo some more and consider it - seems somewhat fun.

Check out the level editor.. you can fully use it in the demo, just no saving etc..

The great thing is the amount of content and the great leaderboard implementation (almost GeoWars2-like, though not quite). I'll never play this game hardcore, but once I got a few levels into Hard I just decided to go back and improve my times on earlier tracks to move up my friend leaderboards, played a few minigames, and did some tournaments.

I'm usually one to bitch about $15 games, but this is the kind of $15 that I don't mind spending. Production values and fun factor are way, way up there, imo. I just don't want 1200 to become the new 800 or this would have been 1600 points.

Hit a map that I couldn't make it by, usually you'll get stuck and with enough attempts you'll understand the gist of what needs to happen but the map I was stuck on I just couldn't do it, perhaps it was my selection of bike.. dunno.

Tractor tire one where you have to hop over lots of barrels, about 3/4 way into the map there is a section where the ramp is really steep and separated by tractor tires at the inclines, there didn't seem to be enough space to work up speed and no way with my bike selection to make it up the second incline.

I really like being able to see the replays on other people's attempts. pretty great.

Well better games and more production values are sure to drive prices up.. as XBLA gets more high end games, the prices will go up no doubt about it.

If the games are worth it, I don't mind paying the price. Not like TMNT which I wouldn't even pay 250 points for in retrospect. Lol
