The Trials HD Official Thread

I'm buying a 360 for this game. I'm serious. I was/am totally in love with Trials 2 SE for the PC, played it constantly a while back. My proudest moment was entering the top 50 in the total worldwide rankings; I believe I was #47 or #48 at best (I've since dropped a few hundred positions). Needless to say, I just can't miss this.

Now, the question is: Do I buy a 360 now, or do I wait for the price drop which is rumored to come in September (along with the Pro model disappearing)?

When RoadHazard is contemplating a 360 purchase there is something special about the game :D

By the way, what is this version like compared to the PC version?

This game is a lot of fun. I will totally buy this after I get my Amazon gift card. This summer of arcade is incredible. Besides TMNT, every game has been fantastic. Shadow Complex next week.

I really don't think there is a pricedrop coming, the 360 is already dirt cheap to be honest. And there are loads of other great games coming for the system, and you can't miss Trials HD & Shadow Complex..

The demo made me buy it, I wasn't even interested in the game until I tried the demo. Really fun. I'm on the hard levels and they are hard. Especially on one of the levels where you have to go across a pool of fire by crawling over 2 large metal balls, I swear I died 60 times on that level. :lol

I've been thinking about getting a 360 since before I even got my PS3. It's just that I decided that the PS3 was a better choice for me, and it's been keeping me happy and satisfied ever since. Now, however, with Trials HD seemingly being exclusive to XBLA forever, I don't have a choice. I need this game.

Trials HD is not really a new version of the PC game, it's more of a sequel. There's new tracks, new modes, different bikes, a track editor, etc.

This game has the same addictive quality that Stunt Car Racer had back in the early 90s! Luckily it doesn't have the same shoddy framerate :)

I really wasn't interested in the game that much, mostly because I've spent too much money this year and it seemed like the game would get old fast but man was I wrong.

The demo is awesome (demos for all arcade games are a must IMO) and really sold me on it. I sort of expected the game would be a chore but didn't realize they have checkpoints mid-level and they do NOTHING to slow you down from trying again.. ie: no loading screen not "FAILURE" message no "are you sure".. so restarting from the last checkpoint or from the beginning is instantaneous.. which is fucking awesome after games like Burnout that took as long to restart as it did to race.

I don't have enough points for Trials and Shadow Complex but I think I'll have to go buy another card because I don't think I can skip either of them.

I'll probably wait then. Trials HD will hopefully have a fanbase as dedicated as the PC version, so it won't matter if I'm a bit late to the party.

I wonder what that means for the Swedish retail price, though. It's around 3000 SEK right now, or 2400 SEK when not including the 25% sales tax (which is always included in Swedish prices). 2400 SEK translates to about $331, but then there's a load of other things which determine the prices in different countries...

That's a good thing.

Bought it without even trying the demo this morning before leaving for work but could only play for 5 minutes or else I was gonna be too late.... arrrrhgggggg!! 5 more hours.... :(

So awesome.... Just bought the full game, even if I start to suck in the harder levels it's too good to pass up.

We seriously need to share our gamertags in order to raise the bar - I want competitive gameplay out of Trials HD. The 'one more try' -factor is just insane, but with a lot of friends playing the game... It'd be even greater. And none of my current Live-friends own Trials. :/

What game is that?

I do kinda wish Trials was more colourful. It has that strangely bland lighting 'look' about it you get on certain games which I don't like. Too much contrast and lighting flare stuff. Also wish the music was better.

But all that is nitpicking really because the gameplay is friggin incredible :)

Editor related...

Can anyone tell me how to make sure some dynamite actually explodes when I attach it to a trigger? Like when I make the player drive through the trigger, and the thing explodes. Right now it just explodes on its own :(.

Lol nevermind found it out already, turn off the physics of the dynamite :D. Sweeeeet

Good to see this game getting some love. I bought the PC version last year and it was awesome. Anyone know how the two versions compare? All new tracks in the 360 version or what?

Trials 2: SE was my runner-up for GOTY last year (Braid won, natch).

After spending almost four hours with Trials HD today, this easily lives up to all my expectations. Even the control works beautifully.

Hard is so brutal. So unforgiving. All is well. I'm going to spend ages in this game, going through the levels time after time, restarting after every small mistake, trying to beat my best times.

Just as it should be.

Loving it.

I think I like it a little more than the pc version. The controls seem a little smoother. on the pc the rider seems like he snaps into a fixed position a little more harshly. If anything I'd just say this is a slightly more polished version.

Just based on the two demos, i would also add that the PC version physics seem bouncier.

Already 10,000 strong on the Leaderboards. Awesome.

Lost my place on the first medium level. Spent half an hour trying to regain that tiny, half a second some people have on me, alas.

This game is art. Man this game wasn't even on my radar until I came across this thread.

Looks awesome, using a controller feels pretty good, and the rumble seems like a necessity. One of the best implementations of rumble I've seen actually (on 360 at least).

I mean this is such a good example of what gaming does right. I have practically no interest in motocross but the devs were able to create a game that takes that activity and just morph it ya know? You can't let the music fool you, there is some serious zen detail shit going on in this.

I also felt the same way about n+ at first, we shall see if gaf can follow through on this one :lol

If anyone wants to know how to create an awesome driving ramp/car thingy :p.

sipe said:
1) Create base frame (ramp in pic 1)

2) Create 4 wheels (pic 2)

3) Create free rotation hinge (tools category) between wheel 1 and base frame (pic 3-4)

4) Glue wheel 1 to free rotation part 1 (right part in pic 4)
- Select wheel
- Press up for object properties window
- Press glue
- Select free rotation part 1

5) Glue base frame to free rotation part 2 (left part in pic 5)
- Select frame
- Press up for object properties window
- Press glue
- Select free rotation part 2

6) Repeat 3 times (NOTE. You need to hold LB for sub-selection, you will need it while attaching base frame to other free rotation hinges)

Edit. And also all parts needs to be dynamic (Frame and wheels)

Also Shard, can you update the first post with these?

But that elite won't have any HD cables with it. No component, no HDMI and no audio dongle.

you can buy component cables used at gamestop for about $10. Actually, I think I got a pair of generic brand cables that has outputs for wii, PS3/PS2, and 360 for $10. alternatively, a 6 foot HDMI is about $10 shipped from monoprice...

back on topic: I'll try out the demo...

That "Where's the Ground?" level sold me on the game straight away, as soon as I get some points it will be mine!

Demo was pretty good, seems like it'd get pretty hard later on. Took me like 10 minutes for the last demo level. May pick it up after i get back from my weekend vacation. How's the difficulty?

Holy crap this game is so much fun! It's even more fun when you have a bunch of people on your friends list to beat their scores! :D

I just did one insane lap on Dreamscape, but still only made it into the top 150 on the leaderboards :(

It's not available yet, but Amazon is listing this as $10...I just so happen to have $10 in XBLA credit with them via a points card purchase special offer a while back, so now I just bide my time. Hopefully the price will stick and it won't be too long a wait.

I'm not sure many of my friends will be getting this, so if anyone wants to add me for some level swappin', please feel free.

How come this thread only has 5 pages? This game is awesome.
If anyone creates any levels, I would be happy to try them ( Gamertag: K2Valor )

Can custom tracks that people make be downloaded and rated? Even if they aren't on your friends list? Kind of like Little Big Planet.

It's really nice to see how well this is being received. Trials 2 impressed the hell out of me.

No, you can only share with people on your friends list.

I'd love to see a real sharing system at some point, but that will have to wait for a PC release I bet.

:lol 10 seconds into the game (I skipped the tutorial) I get an achievement for blowing up my bike and breaking every bone in my body.

AWESOME.

Well this thread may not be particularly big but if the leaderboards are any indication the game is doing extremely well indeed.

Yeah, it seems over 14,000 have purchased it already since this morning - at 1200 points too. Not bad.

Nice, totally forgot that this hit today.

I didn't pop for 'Spolsion Man but all these positive impressions are making me look forward to trying this out (never tried\played a Trials game yet /blush)

Damn I feel I'm making such an awesome level. I am going to be working on it for a while though.. they can be really big, haven't run into any restrictions. So awesome :D. I need to learn some more stuff though, I mean the stuff they have in the hard levels, so crazy.

Don't know why not more gaffers were hyped for this, I told everyone it was gonna be awesome :p.
