Based on?
Based on common sense suggesting a straight port (visually) is about as much as you can ask for when moving a franchise to a market that traditionally isn't important for that franchise/genre.
Based on?
I think Nintendo paying to be sure to have the "superior" (console) version, visually polished to take advantage of the Wii U and with deep focus on the Upad use, would be more interesting than exclusives DLC.I assume the game looks just the same as it will do on other consoles. Interesting part would be if the briefing included any word on online.

To understand the GTA situation, think about the money Rockstar can make.
As in, think about the money they will make from a franchise that size in a given period over launch.
This is what Nintendo would have to match, or exceed, to secure any kind of exclusivity. They'd have to match what the game would make on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for, say, a month or two at launch. Because that is what Rockstar would make otherwise. It's not in their interest to give Nintendo any kind of exclusivity agreement unless Nintendo is matching the money they could make.
And that kind of money is so insane it's just not worth it. Every cent would be better spent on investing in new games from other independent studios. It cost Microsoft $50,000,000 for timed exclusivity of two DLC packs.
For comparison, here are some game budgets:
God of War 3: $44,000,000
Uncharted: $20,000,000
Killzone 2: $45,000,000
Crysis: $22,000,000
Assassin's Creed 2: $24,000,000
Nintendo could make one or two big budget games for the price it would cost them for any timed GTA V exclusivity. It's madness and if they did it they're fucking idiots.
And the WiiU console itself (Filed: 5/12/11 Published: 14/2/12 - source) which seems to be the E3 '11 design. (not final?)

Was this rumored Blockbuster UK list of WiiU games mentioned?

Oh, banned site.
I'm getting "Xbox 360" vibes from that WiiU model...
Also, shame if that list of launch titles is fake. It's pretty much perfect.

And the console, I feel, is weirdly shaped/oriented. No standing up option? Very long...
Right, at the beginning of a consoles life it's unlikely any multi-plat game will look much better, it would be up to Nintendo to decide to produce a visually better game.
Much better is a subjective term, some will certainly look better though.

I think they can do better. It's a very safe, and predictable list. It honestly looks just like what the Blockbuster guy said, a list of games you would guess to put in your database, I thin Nintendo should go for some surprises, after all this ninja stuff.
The real question is, how much do they have to pay to get a port of the game? R* probably still doesn't want to risk supporting Nintendo for free.To understand the GTA situation, think about the money Rockstar can make.

Still needs optical output for sound (tos-link), or I have to buy a new reciver. =(
It's not. It's mirrored. The Wii PSU connector won't fit.The power connector is the same, but that doesn't necessarily mean the same adapter.
I don't know, Pikmin and NSMB look to satisfy all those that criticised the 3DS for its lack of third party. Hasn't everyone been wishing for Pikmin forever?
Oh wow, people really think the WiiU will get GTA V as an exclusive?
Ah, you're right. I didn't notice. That's actually very clever and cost efficient, imo. It's not. It's mirrored. The Wii PSU connector won't fit.

They would have to outbid Microsoft, which is impossible.no, there is a big difference between "think" and "hope" ,,,
exclusive GTA is an insane idea, what I suggested was a port to WiiU, what I "hope" for is for it to be revealed on Nintendo E3 conference.

*sigh* , not even announced by Reggie him self ?? with a freaking logo only ?
It wouldn't surprise me one bit..I was just about to say this...
Even if R* were considering revealing the game at Nintendo's conference, MS would be like, "Yeah, we'll pay you $10 million to reveal it at ours instead." Bam!
....
Part of me wonders if this is an exaggeration.
It probably isn't. I really hate how much power MS has over major third-party games. This is the type of game that should have a demo at all three conferences.I was just about to say this...

I am a bit surprised at the confidence around here in getting GTA. A good number of us were confident for a Wii version for IV, too.
I don't think MS has anything to do with 3rd parties not giving a shit about Nintendo, you may be right about (some) games not appearing at Sony's conference, though I'm not really sure if this is due to MS.
Monster Hunter as a 3DS exclusive benefited both Capcom and Nintendo, though.
The same can not be said about GTA.
You mean me, don't you?thank...thank...THANK YOU THANK YOU. Ace, you are my savior. well u and another guy...tee hee
Why were people expecting a Wii version of GTA4? That game was built entirely around current gen tech.
I think at the very least people expect the Wii U to be on par with the PS3 and 360, so Rockstar won't run into any issues with tech. Nintendo has also talked quite a bit about trying to appeal to the core gamer, so GTA is a must. I'm sure that they know how important that series is and how it would be seen as a bad sign for Western dev support on the Wii U if that game isn't on the system.
Would be limited to stereo, so what's the point? S/PDIF, and therefore Toslink in most consumer applications, simply doesn't support six channel LPCM, which is what Nintendo uses.Still needs optical output for sound (tos-link), or I have to buy a new reciver. =(
while they are at it, they can bring a remake of San Andreas to the 3DS !!
announcing them to iOS, smfh..
Nintendo will have to moneyhat, though. The main reason for wanting to support a console at launch is to build up a fan base on it, and let's not kid ourselves; there's no chance in hell that Wii U will be able to run the next-gen GTA games acceptably.Nintendo hasn't been about censorship since ESRB took the burden off their shoulders. They wouldn't have developed/produced Conker's Bad Fur Day, Eternal Darkness, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, etc. GCN had nudity in Dave Mira's BMX XXX, PS2 didn't. Nintendo only censors their own stuff when ESRB forces them to for a rating they want, like green blood to get an E rating for OoT.
If Rockstar wanted to put GTA on WiiU without Nintendo having to moneyhat them like crazy they'd love it.
I seem to remember them pointing at console sales numbers, as though it were some sort of trump card. Why were people expecting a Wii version of GTA4? That game was built entirely around current gen tech.

Digital audio (coaxial) through the "AV Multi-Out connector" a possibility?
