Loved FF7R....but far too many bits that annoyed me to pick it over W3. W3 at release was fairly rough, but never was anywhere as pissed off as I got in a few bits of FF7R. FF7R, we love you..... but this is where we must leave you. Good luck next Gen with FF7R-2!

Both are great games but I've spent soooo many hours on Witcher 3 and the dlc expansions were just as amazing. Literally B&W could of been its own stand alone game.

The Witcher is a better videogame, but FF7R is such a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. I got more enjoyment out of it.

I like both game and i enjoyed both but Witcher 3.
Final Fantasy 7 did the combat gameplay better and Soundtrack is arguably same level as Witcher 3 or better. Everything else i think Witcher 3 did better from Main story to side quests to worldbuilding to characters, even the minigame i would say Gwent is more fun, I also thought Witcher 3 combat was decent and turned to good by the 2 DLC, oh thats right! another point for me is the 2 DLCs Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are what makes Witcher 3 one of the best games this gen for me, without those two DLC i dont think it would be loved as much.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake:
+ Enjoyable combat gameplay
+ Fun minigames
+ Amazing Soundtrack/Music one of the best of the gen.
+ Pretty character design
+ Anime style storytelling.
+ So stylish.

- Not complete (a lot missing so no satisfied feelings after ending)
- Terrible side quests that makes chapter too long.
- Outside of humanoid bosses, uninspired robotic boss fights.
- For some who are not fans of Anime tropes the writing can have its cringe moments
- A lot of one dimensional characters.

Witcher 3:
+ Rich worldbuilding.
+ Epic main quest journey.
+ Interesting varied characters side and main.
+ Excellent side quests, the whole game is well written overall.
+ Dialogue choices.
+ Gwent.
+ Two top tier expansions that improve gameplay with even better main stories.
+ Beautiful world design.
+ Non generic Soundtrack that has slavic mythology vibes.
+ Decent combat with different witcher tools to use and multiple builds to try.

- Only 1 style of combat (Witcher) no classes, technically not a flaw but some people dont like this. You cant be archer or mage although some build optimization can offer different combat style, also no stealth options.
- Very long, slow paced and overwhelming start.
- Horse riding has minor issues/annoyance.
- After many hours combat will start to feel repetitive (mainly a main game issue).
- Lack of variety of weapons and movesets.

As for which one deserves to be GOTG, I find Witcher 3 way more deserving of that because it also inspired a TV series, still alive after 5 years, talked about every day on forums and Youtube, and it gets compared to every new open world game that gets released, i think if i want to make a Top 10 games of this Gen regardless of my personal opinion, not including Witcher 3 in it feels like trolling, same goes for Dark Souls 2011 when we talk about game of the decade.

Now the question remains, can W3 beat Bloodborne?

It depends on the website/forum.
On a website like GameFaqs, yes! definitely. It reached the finals for Game of the Decade, 20k votes for each average poll.
On a niche forum like this one probably not, I think this forum like Bloodborne more than any other game. I think it can give Zelda a run for its money though, so Witcher or Zelda are probably 2nd/3rd. Bloodborne is definitely 1st. NeoGaf and ResetEra love Bloodborne the most. Other places...I think its always between Zelda Breath of the Wild and Witcher 3, they are top dogs of this decade.
Bloodborne is dominating since the start with 75+% (except vs GoW), no chance it loses any round. The contest is now about 2nd place LOL.

Witcher 3 is an all-around solid game, but I never felt addicted to it or sucked in like some of my favorite RPGs. I kinda just played it here and there over a couple years. I found the main story to only be decent, which is what probably prevented me from really feeling engrossed.

FF7R, while more flawed, has higher highs for me and I wanted to keep playing it. When it's good it's fucking good (which is more often than not). I went with FF7R.

While Final Fantasy VII Remake is an amazing game and a contender for being the game of the year. The only aspect where FF7R triumphs over Witcher 3 are the visuals in my opinion.

My vote goes to Witcher 3.

Witcher 3

FF7R is one of the most overrated releases in recent times.

Translation: "I didnt like a thing, so neither should anyone else. Unless they are dumb"

For me its FF7. Both amazing and genre defining games. Both in my top 5 AAA games this gen.
It just comes down to personal taste and FF7 was the more emotional experience for me, so I go with that.
Its kind of unfair that one game has to lose here :D, I love them both :)

Both are definitely great games but the Witcher 3 is a generation defining game, the same way the original FFVII was. Honestly it's great that Remake even made it this far, showing that despite the complaining there's a lot of people who did think it was a great game. But unfortunately it's just going up against a behemoth.

Witcher 3 is far superior to FF7R by a long shot. FF7R had some of the worst sidequests known to man. Dialogue is terrible, or maybe its due to the cringe feeling it gives.

I'm sorry, but I cannot stomach Anime shonen tropes.

I loved FF7r but against Witcher 3?
Motherfuckin' Witcher 3!!!
I hope there won't be a Witcher 3 VS RDR2 or I will cry of despair and then implode because of the weight of the choice I'll have to make.

Sorry. I loved FF7, but it's simply a matter of the Witcher being even more lovable.

The storylines and writing were incredible, and the game itself was a chill, fun little ARPG to play, especially handheld. (Gasp, yes, I also bought the Switch version)

Witcher 3 is incomplete since witcher 4 will exist some day.

FF7:RE wins, it's not even close.

BTW this is the last "weeb" game in the tournament.

No it isn't you dolt, BOTW is a "WEEB" game, and so is Mario. Shows how little you know.

I voted FF7 since it's my GOTY, even though Witcher 3 is game of the century, blowing away your shitty game of the generation polls.

this is not a goty vote but more game of the century so i don't understand something ....

This is a no brainer for me. I hated almost everything about FF7 Remake, including the music. The combat system is that same old shitty Bioware style system where some things arbitrarily rubber band and some things don't, except more sluggish and with stagger mechanics meaning all the enemies are damage sponges, and flying enemies can just get out of range for however long they want and make the camera go wild. They turned the legendary soundtrack into elevator music and cut out the memorable parts. The visuals are a huge mess, with unstylized Ubisoft NPCs mixed with anime main characters. Sephiroth looks like he smelled a fart. Tifa has the uncanny valley crazy eyes and a cartoony face while Cloud and Barrett look like a photorealistic version of anime.

Everything is padded with "traversal" AKA shimmying in between rubble with the same animation they couldn't even bother to match the environment to.

All the additions are tryhard nonsense. "Tifa? Oh totally, I'm her landlord, she's like my niece or something." Very authentic. Their idea of character development is sneaking into Jessie's dad's room while he's in a coma and reading some letters. You randomly enter into a residential noise dispute with a Sephiroth cultist who's staying next door; this sets the tone for the scenarios in the game, they are awful.

Midgar, the iconic city that the script says is shrouded in darkness and uses artificial lighting, is sunlit 24/7. Even GW Bush would find a way to squint harder if he were there. They literally make you climb up and look down on a glorious Ps1-tier texture of the city from above and make you disable some of the artificial lights, even though it's bathed in sunlight.

The icing on the cake is Nomura adding a layer of "d u rike it?" madness that makes Kojima look like a genius comparatively. What a shitshow.
All of this is true. Yet I still loved almost every minute of the game.

As a huge fan of the original FFVII it pains me to admit that The Witcher 3 obliterates that tedious, stretched, cash grab in every possible way. :messenger_pensive:

What's not to understand, GOTY = 2020, GOTG = PS4/XBone lifespan, GOTC = in the past hundred years. Witcher 3 was an obvious win, I voted for the underdog.

Take your troll bait shit to someone who cares.
you're a meanie mr vicious, maybe you do belong in the ground with nancy

ur a bad seed bro!

One is on the list for gotg of many people, the other has sidemissions where you find cats and brats and a fanfic level bullshit plot so up in his ass that if you smell his breathe it stinks of kingdom hearts.

My vote obviously goes to ff7 (on ps1)
