The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - E3 Gameplays, Interviews, Articles: Compilation

I had a dream about this game today. I was with a group of people going through a grassly open field during a thuderstorm, and then we see john mamais waving at us near a barn, we run into him. And he says "finally you guys have arrived, you will all now see the e3 demo for witcher 3". After we watched the demo, i come to him and say "this thing that i saw is the most powerful thing i've ever seen in my life, rivalized only by the forces of nature". John mamais laughs and says "I am a force of nature".

Then i wake up with my leg sleeping.

The funny thing is, we've just released that pre-order trailer, The Sword of Destiny, and even in that... everybody keeps telling me how great it looks, I've been getting a lot of positive feedback. All I can see, though... ahh, this horse is missing his effects, ahh, this guy has a bad texture.. everything is wrong. I have to go back and fix everything! There's so much work to do. But we'll get there.

Damn.

Mind you, I have to fight in the developer environment to test out the dismemberment - taking off limbs and such - and I'm constantly dying even in editor mode with cheats and such added!
to test out the dismemberment - taking off limbs and such
taking off limbs

Fuck yes baby!!

Keep testing that so it can be as brutal as possible man!!

I was playing for the first time through Witcher, and came across this :

So, are we talking about the same Wild Hunt but with different purposes?
I'm so excited to Witcher 3! HYYYYPE!

It is the same Wild Hunt, yes. I don't know what you mean by different purposes. They're also brought up in W2.

Good interview here that's short but covers a lot of the system changes between Witcher 2 and 3.

And a little new information because I hadn't heard these few details about the leveling system this time around:
What is interesting -- and this is a change from The Witcher 2 -- is that now we don’t have static character development, but we’ve got slots in the DNA. You can put the skills in the order you want to, and proper combinations of these skills give you boosts to the combat. Depending on how you want to build your character, you can reset the build and do it again if you want.

For people that are more casual we’ve got auto-levelling if they want, and it’s about being one of the three specialisations of character development -- sword specialisation, magic specialisation and alchemic specialisation.

I am playing the second episode, combat gameplay is a mess.
If they could fix it in the 3rd installment it would definitely make of it the best RPG of this decade. I heard bad impression on the matter from french journalists tho.

The Wild Hunt is one of the most important characters in Gerald's story. You'll see a lot more of it.

Thanks for the link.

Nobody askes about choices carrying over from the second game, it's like a conspiracy.
There's this quote though:
And you’ve got the flashbacks, which tell you that you’ve done this before, and that’s why you’re in that situation right now.
But I think it refers to things you did previously in the game, not things you did in TW2.

three specialisations of character development -- sword specialisation, magic specialisation and alchemic specialisation.

This was already how it worked in TW2.

elixirs and bombs are used in a fight, but when you go and rest at a fireplace, they are immediately refuelled.

Not sure how I feel about this.

every sign has got a second aspect you can unlock in the character development

every potion has three levels, and you’re gathering these herbs and other unique ingredients to upgrade them.

This is cool. Should give the game more depth.

About the horse combat:

No, you can do it whenever you want. You can attack with a sword, shoot a crossbow, throw bombs; you can even fight another horseman.

Awesome!

I'm forcing myself not to look him up on google because I don't want his voice to be associated in my mind with anything but Geralt's face.

Bah, I couldn't resist, seems like he had roles in some pretty big movies.

Haha Cliff Bleszinski on AMA on reddit:

Witcher 3 makes my pants tight, I assure you.

Man has good taste. Now if only he worked on storydriven single player unreal 1 like shooter instead of another multi-player one :(

Depending on how you want to build your character, you can reset the build and do it again if you want.

I hope that this doesn't mean that you can respec your character whenever you feel like it.

There's only one Wild Hunt in the witcher lore so yes it's the same one.

Yeah, that's a weird decision, hopefully they will at least put a limit to it like Dark Souls 2.
I'd rather not have it at all though.

You can always not use it.

It's the type of thing that can be abused in very specific cases to obtain an advantage, like save-scumming, but most of the time it isn't because you don't obtain more power with it, you just change in what parts you are good. People won't be re-speccing every 5 minutes, they will have just the character build they will grow organically as they level up over time and that's it. Maybe after 30 hours they will change some parts from swordman to alchemist to see how the gameplay changes without having to start a new game, but that's it.

I like quicksaves in games, but that doesn't mean I am saving every 10 seconds in a game, even in a hard part. Same here.

edit: I'm more worried about the infinite bombs and shit. No more crafting? And that also tied to exploration, and shopping.

Kinda of dumb question, but does anyone know how to ask questions to CDPR?
I know people usually use Twitter to write ad devs but i don't use it.

I've been wanting to ask them if they're considering a photo mode of some sort (like Infamous SS).
A game with such enviroments and art direction it would be glorious.

Kinda Witcher related. Washington Post ranked all the gifts Obama received in 09-12 period. Guess the place of W2.
KuGsj.gif

274. A swag bag for the game "Witcher 2" from Poland in 2011.
"Witcher 2" was a well-received video game that came out around the time of the gift and was made in Poland. OK, fine. But, Poland went a bit over the top in pitching the game to the president. To wit:

DVD: "Best of the Witcher 2: Video Trailers for President Barack Obama."
"Witcher 2" gift box, with three golden "Witcher 2" coins.
A "Witcher 2" book.
"Witcher 2" stickers.
A 5.5″ x 6.5″ x 3″ ivory-colored bust of "Witcher 2" character "Gwynbleioo."

This shit had me in tears

This is an incomplete list. The president, we believe, did not put the Gwynbleioo bust in the Oval Office. Poland did come through with some vodka, but that can't make up for the rest of it.

Some funny stuff :)..

And a Q&A from San Diego ComicCon - from the Witcher forums:

1. Will large monster hunts end in cutscenes like the griffin in the E3 gameplay trailer or was that done in the interest of time?

In the full game you’ll never lose control of the character during combat--it’s always you who delivers the final blow.

2. Can your horse be killed/replaced or is it the same horse throughout the game?

Geralt’s horse is always called “Roach”, you cannot lose it and it cannot die. But, you can tame other horses or steal one by using the Axii sign.

3. Is this the last time we see Geralt in The Witcher game?

We want to finish off with a bang. This is the last part of the legend of Geralt.

4. Why is Geralt holding a torch in the trailer?

To see. It’s dark and he doesn’t have the ingredients for the potion that allows him to see in the dark. Simple as that.

5. Will we be able to make our own notes on the map?

As of right now, we can’t. But we always listen to the fans, so when I go back to the office, I will let the team know and maybe we can sort this out. No promises though.

6. Will we (as Geralt), have to choose to love Yennefer or Triss?

It’s like in real life, it’s all about choices and consequences. So, you have to choose wisely because you can end up with the wrong one.7. Why does Geralt have such a slim waist and broad shoulders?Killing monsters keeps you in shape. Depending on the type of armor he is wearing it could be more fitting. I think it’s nice.

8. What I would like to know is how much does the previous game saves influence The Witcher 3: Wild HuntSo basically, we have already said and promised it for the PC. For next-gen consoles, we are trying to find a really good way to allow importing. But honestly there is no definite solution in place at this point. We are still working on it and we will try to do the best we can.

9. How many and what kind of armors are going to be in the game?

There will be many types of armors. The biggest difference is you will find some that are witcher specific and they will look way cooler, but they are harder to get. You can also use armors from soldiers and have armors made.

10. Will we be able to buy Geralt's pendant other than in the collector's edition?

We are preparing something really cool for the fans. We cannot be specific right now, but we think you will be quite pleased. So, basically yes, but you will have to stay tuned for now.

11. Will the difficulty be as "hardcore" as it was in TW2, or will it be as easy as TW1?

We worked very hard to make the difficulty curve much smoother. Of course, you can always select the difficulty at the beginning. The difficulty curve is something we are still working on and making sure it is polished. We have a whole team for this and have learned a lot from the previous games, so rest assured.

12. How much customization is available to use on geralt? Like hairstyles and facial hair, armor, weapons?

If you find the barber, you might be able to shave that sexy beard off of him. As for the rest, this is Geralt!--we are not going to let you mess around with him too much. Rest assured, the rest is fully customizable (I’m thinking clothing and armor here).

13. Is there any chance we'll see a trilogy release for the next gen consoles?

No.

14. How is the Xbox One version going to look vs. Ultra on PC?

I think we are quite lucky in terms of developing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt because all three platforms are similar in regards to performance. So, we are developing one game and adjusting that to three platforms and adding special features, but we want to make the best experience for everyone and do not want to scale anything down.

15. When you sever some poor soul's limb from his/her body, is it randomized, or can you choose to do it?

It’s randomized, but depending on the level you are at, the chances will increase. Based on the type of attack you use, it will dictate whether it is the head or the leg, etc. So, it is randomized, yeah, but with some control.

16. You once said that in The Witcher 3, Geralt refrains from politics and returns to The Witcher's path, yet in the trailers, we see him meeting Emhyr. Is it only because of Ciri or is Geralt trapped into politics once again?!

We want to give full freedom to the players. Of course this is a personal story, where Geralt is trying to find his loved ones, but, at the same time, if you love the politics of the Witcher world, you can get into that. It’s not mandatory as opposed to The Witcher 2, since that was part of the main story line, but you can get into that if you like.
