The Witcher 3 XP bug is getting fixed but not until next week

Does this affect XB1 because after the latest patch I believe it is on 1.03 now?

Edit: Just read all 3 platforms, fuck. Splatoon or Gwent only this weekend then.

There is a ton of misinformation about this bug out there. CDPR should be more clear on what it does and what it affects.

Pure supposition but, based on what I've read, I don't think it's as all encompassing as most fear. Most people hit are smack in the middle of Novigrad and even those who get it still frequently get XP for side missions, contracts, etc. I'm thinking it may either fix itself in game through forward progression or just apply to a narrow range of missions at a certain point in the game.

Since CDPR in their own statement said it shouldn't actually have a huge impact on forward progress I think it may resolve itself to some degree or another through normal play even without the patch.

Yes it effects Xbox one Version. The press reporting on this issue is awful. Most are saying it's from a patch despite the fact that all platforms are on different patch cycles. If it's patch related then it's from the Day One patch, not any released since then.

Blame Sony and MS, not CDPR. This issue just popped up and every patch that goes to the PS4 and Xbone has to go through the verification process which takes a week.

It may not be "game breaking" but let's not blame the process of patching and completely ignore the fact that the game was released in this state.

it would be nice if they actually backed up that assertion with more information about the bug, but i guess that's too much to ask

I've spent close to 100 hours in the game, most of that was just exploring and doing side quests, which again barely gives you XP in the first place. It's not ideal, but it's hardly a thing to panic about.

Not being able to progress and gain exp properly through the MAIN QUESTLINE of a story oriented RPG is the definition of game breaking and definitely something to worry about. The apologism is strong in this thread.

And when you run out of side quests that are doable at your level and then cannot level further because some quests give no XP and the rest give "barely" any?

Then wait for the patch, it comes out next week.

I'm not being an apologist, I'm being realistic. This is a massive game, with a majority of that content barely giving you XP, thus is not effected by this bug. Go play gwent, go exploring, go do side quests. You can still play a lot of what the game has on offer, just some of it you are going to have to put to the side for a week. Again, it is not ideal, but it is also not game breaking like the comparison I quoted earlier in this thread that equated this issue to playing an FPS without the means of picking up ammo.

problem is, CDPR is being so vague

Haven't experienced any XP bugs but I just got the 1.03 update on XB1. Wonder if I just ploughed myself in the arse. Hope it's fine.

Arf, I was planning to start playing this week-end since I finally received my PC. Is it safe if I don't update to v1.04 and stay at v1.03?

We don't know what triggers the bug (I hope CDPR knows).

You're lucky, but unfortunately it is widespread.

Define "widespread", and cite yor source.

We don't know how common or rare is the bug. It could occur to just 1% of the players.
What we know, for a fact, it's that most people don't suffer it. From a dozen people I know that are playing, no one has it. Look at the number of people playing in the OT and how many are talking of suffering the bug.

I don't understand.

If the bug affects you, you don't get XP from certain quests?

But literally all the complaints I'm reading in the thread here is that Geralt levels too fast?

Then what's the problem? Sounds like those affected by the bug actually get a more balanced flow of progression. :p

it affects everyone, but it's not clear HOW

New statement from Marcin:

As we mentioned, this bug doesn't cause too much experience loss in the long run so please enjoy the game during the weekend.

I don't get it. If I don't get XP from main quests, how am I supposed to level up then? Those missions give significant amounts of XP.

just keep playing guys. keep a manual save before you complete quest objectives so you can reload if you think you ran into the bug.

this doesn't sound like a game breaker. i don't feel particularly underleveled for where i am in the game so i don't think i've run into it.

just met up with
triss
in novegrad and level 13ish. completed all of the recommended secondary, monster, and treasure hunts so far.

It does not affect everyone. I am getting exp without issue. In fact, at the rate I'm out leveling quests, I almost wish I would get the bug.

That said, CDPR really needs to get their shit together with Q and A. Use all that new money to quadruple Q and A so that they can identify these issues and squash them.

Blame Sony and MS then. They are the ones that force a week long certification process on all patches. PC players only have to wait three days.

Yes, only blame the console manufacturers, don't also blame the developer putting out game breaking patches.

kind of a double edged sword. more testing to make sure bugs don't break a game is good but it also means that if a bug slips through the next patch that they push to fix that bug takes longer to get out. :\

Last night I did quite a few story quests and was wondering why none of them were awarding XP. Definitely got hit by this. My exp bar never moved for several hours and was perplexed. Will going back to an older save after the fix comes out work for me?

Um, no... Sony/MS have to test the patches on their end too incase there's a weird thing in the patch that causes the PS4 to overheat and crash or anything of that sort (cert tests things a lot differently than developer testing will).

They never said the bug consist of not getting XP from the main quest...

The bug consists of not getting XP from ANY quest that is green or red. That includes main quests, and that is exactly what is happening to me. No more XP from main quests that are green for me.

were the previous games relatively bug free and polished? i only played 360 witcher 2 which was relatively bug free but by that time it had been out for a while on pc and probably had more time in the oven.

Its annoying not getting xp for quests but from what I understand you get the same amount of xp in the long run. I noticed it a while ago and figured it was more of a weird design decision. You get a ton of xp for quests above your level but little or none for quests well below your level.

That's probably what I'll do. I'm still at Level 5 and have a Level 5 quest that I'm about to start. If I don't get XP from it, I'll go back to my old save and just avoid quests until it gets patched, and focus on exploring side content in the meantime. If I do get XP like I'm supposed to, I'll keep playing "business as usual" until I do run into the bug.

It's not ideal, but it's something I can work with. Better than not playing the game at all this weekend.

AFAIK They weren't polished despite being from Poland.

Not sure if I've experienced this or not, but I wouldn't mind if I had. By doing every side quest, I'm outpacing the main story so I'd like some XP slowdown.

Don't think I like your tone, but while we're at it...

Widespread = XboxOne, PC, Ps4 (regardless of 1.01/ 1.02/ 1.03/ PC 1.04 patch)

Source = CDPR official forum, CDPR themselves, GAF, myself included (PS4/ got hit with this bug last night).
