The Witcher devs to make a Cyberpunk 2020 game

I don't know, The Witcher 2's sex scenes were less awkward than the first, but they still felt like badly directed softcore porn rather than something that added to the story. Hardly felt like a particularly relevant element though, I mean, aside from one instance with Triss you have to go out of your way to actually trigger one.

Here's to hoping they add all original player classes to it instead of playing as a predetermined character. Wanna play as a Fixer or Corporate! :D

well, all other scenes were not about making love, they were about people fucking.

sex scenes in Bioware games can be.... creepy. edit: more awkward than creepy though
I alt-tab them, they're super dumb. My Shepard didn't sleep with anyone on ME3 for this reason (also her beloved was dead).

Sex scenes on TW2 aren't perfect, but they're probably the less creepy sex scenes ever featured in a videogame.

I like the aspect of colors used in the arts. I knew ones I will see the game info, I will play this game and enjoy it a lot, to the extreme of tens of hours if not.

Ah, wait ... what kind of RPG; FPS/TPS similar to Fallout ? or Diablo/StarCraft because I'm not into that.

It was terrible. In the pnp forums I've frequented people try to forget it actively. I didn't even remember there's a V3 before it was mentioned here now.

So this being a pen an paper rpg, I keep thinking of a system of combat that is like part Kotor, part V.A.T.S.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out because they claim to be going RPG first, and as of now it is solely going down that RPG path. I can't imagine ranged weapons being used in real time for a pen and paper rpg. The Witcher got away with being an rpg with real time combat because you were forced to make decisions inbetween melee attacks. To correctly covey ranged combat things will have to be rigged much differently.

Hmm I think I may have figured out what could possibly be driving the gameplay
Interlock System - Used by Cyberpunk 2020
I'm really hoping this is indicitive of what is to come.

also... ITT: Sexy times in games that aren't Cyberpunk... >.<

It has to be. Its based on Cyberpunk 2020, and will be pen and paper. I just don't know how they will pull it off well.

I'm hoping it will be like Kotor 3.5 or something.

Based on doesn't mean they can't take liberties. I just wouldn't put anything past anyone anymore, especially after the direction they took Witcher 2. Big budget game, probably console release at some point, don't want to alienate people like ScepticMatt who don't like dice roll combat, etc... I could easily see them trying to cram action into the mechanics.

Do you think they will ape the original pen and papar rpg's mechanics and skill trees and all that? I tend to think they're just using the established world and characters to create the game in, much like they used the Witcher fantasy novels for the Witcher games.

It sort of sounds like they'll be using a lot of the mechanics and rules of the actual P&P game. During the announcement CDP's CEO said (paraphrasing)

"Advanced RPG mechanics based on this system. I want really want to stress how important that is. Because with The Witcher games we had to build the mechanics ourselves, so of course we made some mistakes and were learning. Here, we have everything ready"

And they talked about a variety of highly customizable classes. Definitely makes it seem like a different approach than The Witcher. Who knows what exactly it'll be like in the end, but it sounds interesting.

Yup, it does. Suppose it helps that they have established and functional mechanics to build from. But at the same time they shouldn't be too slavish to what came before. A pen and paper RPG and a RPG video game are two very different things, obviously.

I'm not particulary excited about the source material, but it's fucking CDPR so this is instantly my most anticipated game! (at least until TW3/next Souls game get announced)

This would be nice -- like in KOTOR, you can have a different menu screen to show all the gory details for people who care.

For everyone who doesn't care, like in KOTOR, you don't have to see any details about why you actually did XYZ amount of damage. You just know more powerful weapons tend to do more damage, which has been true for like, the last 10 or 20 years of video games.

Otherwise, you end up with an action/shooter game, and bam, all the people who complained about shooters are justified. So either way, you end up with at least one group of people complaining. =P

Exaclty, I wouldn't mind some Deus Ex or Witcher style gameplay, but a Kotor-like would be my ideal right now.

I'd prefer if they err'd towards the ones who were underserved as of late. I don't mind a shooter RPG so long as it isn't, say, Gears of War, CoD, or Halo but with stats, but it's really disappointing how little beyond Japan is big yet uses a more traditional system. Plus we got Deus Ex for a more heavily Action RPG, especially if SE decides to keep pursuing it.

I'm excited for this because I can buy it day 1 without any guilt. I still haven't purchased Witcher 2 because I haven't beaten Witcher 1 lol.

Also, cyberpunk stuff by their art team and on their engine is gonna be quite sexy.

Amazing annoucement. Perfect combo of genre+developer.

I just hope the video game industry doesn't fuck this genre out by the time it hits (like they recently did with zombie games and post-apoc games).

Well, it does seem like cyberpunk's mostly a thing of the past as it is, but I also think Zombie games don't really have that much room for exploration, while post-apocalyptic has room if people look into exploring it more seriously (I like how Shin Megami Tensei IV LOOKS like it might be going with medieval touches in the aftermath).

Actually, I think CDPR will find room to squeeze in even if we have a rush of them.

Haven't had an avatar for ages, and I think this one hasn't been taken, so thanks!

made some avatars from the faces if anyone wants them.

Hugely excited about this game!!

The way they refreshed the fantasy genre before gives me confidence that even if released between Deus Ex 4 and the new Shadowrun, it will feel like its own thing.

Yep. Even more than the mechanics and writing, I'm excited to see what those artists of theirs pull off in a further developed RED Engine. Especially if they return to structure where the hubs are much more open - ala TW1.

I hope it hits the new consoles after its PC release. I think it could set itself up big just by being early and the only thing of its kind (I assume).

Yeah, and even more so if they can land themselves in one of the big 3's next-gen E3 press conferences/marketing pushes.

Not to make this a race thing, but I never knew the Cyberpunk dude was black. I know it shouldn't make a difference, but I think it's part of what makes the series so interesting. I mean, the guy grew up in the 50's and 60's, so it probably gave him an all too close view of how the majority, no matter really what common bond they share, can oppress the minorities. I mean, back in the 60's it was about race, but I like how he used that to create a future where it was more to do with wealth instead of ethnicity.

I know people get weird about race, but it was just a thought I had since yesterday. I think it's likely why the series feels plausible, since it's written by a man who was likely oppressed and segregated against in his own life. I mean it helps that he thought up a bunch of cool techno shit as well, but I think real-life experiences gave him a lot more perspective on the more human aspects of it.
