The Zelda TP pre-launch NON-SPOILER thread (READ BEFORE YOU POSTTTT)

:lol Talk about thread derailment. I do not care about black people (behind counters that are interested in Zelda). I'm interested in Zelda. Back on topic please.

That's a winner, she even wants the superior edition. (Alt 1: Was she hot or ugly? I imagine with such a winning combination she might look like a dog! Alt 2: What did the WSJ article say?)

Alt 1: Not bad at all. Though I wouldn't ask for her number. That would be the geekiest thing ever.

Alt 2: The WSJ article was talking about how Nintendo's combating high tech with simple. There wa an awesome Miyamoto quote in there as well. It had face sketches of Iwata and Miyamoto. It was really really long and very positive even though it had a graph of the differences in NES, SNES, N64, and GCN sales. I'll see if I can pull it up online.

the geekiest thing ever would be reading a book on astronomy while wearing a pair of glasses and drinking soy milk because you're lactose intolerant in a room with a humidifier to soothe your sensitive lungs

Wait, why would it be GEEKY if you asked for her number!?

dude there was another guy on at the counter on a computer. Imagine we talked about Zelda and then I ask for her number. The conversation lasted like 30 seconds max. I don't even know the chick. We've got nothing in common but videogames. Maybe I should walk up to the counter with a DS and see what happens.

edit: it's not the act of asking for her number that is geeky. It's the part about me asking for her number because we're anticipating the same videogame.

You just start conversation with completely random things. I mean you have Zelda in common. Say how you think Zelda is so awesome and you're really waiting for the new Zelda or whatever. And try to be charming while you say all those things.

Well the overworld in TP is approximately 80 square miles. That's 5x the size of Shadow of the Colossus and San Andreas overworld, for example.

Isn´t it hard to compare the size with other games? How did you do it? :)
And do you have the game?!

He got it two weeks ago. If you have a question and he doesn't respond to your posts, make a topic or PM him. He's quick to respond.

So its confirmed that apart from Widescreen, there are NO visual improvements whatsoever in the wii version compared to the GC version? I think my purchasing decision will be based on this- as there is no way I will buy a visually crippled version of TP. If they are identical in this respect, Ill get the GC version for now (have a 4:3 TV anyway) then pick up the wii version when i pick up a wii next year probably. However, if there are graphical enhancements, then I will not do this. I was under the impression that there was.

Zelda will be getting a 10 from Matt at IGN it seems

Hey guys,

We're under embargo on our impressions until tomorrow at -- I think -- 5:00 p.m. or so. If I could post them earlier, I would. I'm actually just back from a bar now and I've just started to write them. Obviously, I can't go into specifics, but rest assured that my impressions will only solidify your previous beliefs that this will be a masterful, amazing Zelda -- as should be expected.

Matt

Masterful was given to OoT, and is out of place worded were it is, and seems to show he is highly impressed

Nothing but lots of praise so far. It's going to be that one oddball negative impression/review that blows GAF up though.

yeah, it's similar to what onm has to say. i'm sure it's been posted somewhere:
from the spoiler impressions thread at the onm forums:
Q) Are you enjoying it?
A) Best game I've ever played.

There has never really been a Zelda at launch....how do you guys think this is gonna turn out for Wii sales?

I remember back when Gamecube was shown at spaceworld, people talked about that Zelda clip for weeks. Cel-shaded Zelda sort of turned a lot of people off. Could this be a REAL system seller?

not concerned about right hand / left hand debate. only somewhat curious about the possibly mirroring though.

what really interests me, are the *possible* graphical differences between the two, beyond the 16:9 widescreen for Wii version.

-framerate
-texture-resolution quality
-draw-distance
-particle effects

people are saying there is a small difference between the two.

you know, we haven't not seen new GAMECUBE screenshots in a long long time.

I will be playing the Wii version on a circa 2001, 1080i / 480p, 4:3 Sony WEGA 32 inch.

it's got 16:9 mode. so i'll have to play with borders.

Sorry, this has probably been answered somewhere, but here goes:

Is there an official statement on whether or not the GameCube version will support 480p? And if not, will the GC game be upscaled when played on Wii?

A ways back, I posted at this other board and they had their Twilight Princess prediction thread and I said there was no way the game would score below a 9.5(at this site mind you) and many said I was incredibly naive and a wishful thinker. Some had it in the high 8s:lol :lol

the cube version is 480p just like any other Nintendo game for the cube.

A huge battleship ZELDA PREVIEW is approaching fast!

But it won't be here for another.... six hours. Sorry, kids, them's the breaks. The global embargo on this thing is 5 p.m., which I assume is to give the guys who are currently up at NOA traipsing through Hyrule for the next few hours a fair shot at going head-to-head with people like myself and Mark, who were there a couple of days ago. Seems fair.

And that's 5 p.m. Pacific time, so don't try any of your "but it's already way past 5 p.m. GMT!" shenanigans with me, young man.

So, come back tonight at five to this very spot for a shiny link to, uh, Link. We'll promote it on the front page, too (I would imagine) but our site's front page can be a little slow to update... so this page here will be your best shot for instant linkage.

And of course, everyone will be going live with Zelda info at the same time as us. Our esteemed leader think it's very important that I mention the fact that my preview checks in at nearly 4500 words, which sort of embarrasses me since it's way way over the 1UP norm and suggests that this article will not be, shall we say, the soul of wit.

But even at that length, there's still an amazing amount of Zelda-ness I didn't even begin to cover. So I'm going against the grain of the gaming publication mindset (which is to beat readers over the head with the notion that THIS site/magazine is the ONLY one that exists) and recommend that for maximum Zelda information overdosage, you check out some of the other previews that'll be popping up at the same time as ours. I'm sure if you smoosh all of our articles together the picture that emerges will be a perfect representation of Twilight Princess. Well, the opening hours, anyway.

Anyway, check back around five. Pacific. And for the love of all that's good and wonderful, be a little patient if your clock says 5:01 and there's no link.

So...is his preview is going to be bigger than the 1up norm..but smaller than other reviewers?

Nah, I think he is saying that he wrote so much that he doesn't want to write to much so he overdoes it making it to overwhelming causing people to flee.

i think he meant the game's so big that even with 4500words he couldnt cover all the details

I hope that these previews will remain as non-spoilerific as possible for the big things..... I don't know if I can resist!

So I guess reviews will be up as soon as the media can beat the game, right? Or is there another embargo for that?

I wouldn't expect online pubs to have a review up until at least next Friday. It's still too early for reviews to hit, it'll be here soon enuf though.
