The Zelda TP pre-launch NON-SPOILER thread (READ BEFORE YOU POSTTTT)

Which would be ok if it animates or looks like it connects in that way. As it is it literally just pauses the screen which has always been a huge wtf as far as I'm concerned. It does detract from my gameplay experience.

Personally, I have no problems with it. The pause effect is only used with strong attacks like the spin anyway.

you mean Link taking the Master Sword or the Goron boss? i will give you the Goron boss, but we´ve seen that master sword.
Nope other stuff not to be mentioned here involving stuff that people don't know.

Oh dear. Speaking of Luke Smith, I hope at least one of the regulars from 1UP Yours got hands-on time with Zelda. Or maybe they can invite Jeremy Parish. That should make for an interesting 10 minute discussion.

Jeremy recently updated his blog [a few times actually], saying that he'll put up his first bit of Zelda preview on Friday, so some sort of embargo is a little lifted. I hope 1up show does something, who knows what they're dealing with.

I think some Halo 3 stuff might be revealed Friday too [Maybe? 1up have some month-long thing going along with the EGM stuff I think], so it will probably be a battle of discussion time.

I hope John gets angry with the Swedish Magazine / Famitsu though. I want to know if those two will actually get any fines for flipping the bird at the 'exclusive' bit, or if the 'exclusive' was US magazines only.

why would it be exclusive for US magazines only since level was there and met with bungie? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard on gaf. There are magazines outside of US that also report on games you know. And why do you really care that they should get fines? Do you work for EGM or something. btw the stuff got leaked, they didn't do it intentional.

No need to be a dick dude. EGM was getting the "omg exclusive first look!!" at Halo 3. Of course other publications were going to be there - But I would have thought they'd be "embargoed" until after EGM's shipping date. Did the Swedish mag get leaked? How does a Mag get leaked? Was Level on the shelves, or did some snot from printing grab a copy [and probably get insta-fired]? I haven't been keeping up.

I asked if it was a US exclusive because other countries don't get EGM unless it's imported, where it comes in like 2 months later. Maybe there are different rules, I don't know! That's why I'm asking!

As for fines, I ask because it's like the opposite of an embargo put onto a publication. Websites get in trouble if they show something before an embargo date, why not other Magazines?

but but... this is supposed to be the zelda news thread :(

agreed. I just cant muster myself to post in the spoiler thread. When I bought OoT back in 1998 I almost knew nothing about the game. I prefer it to be that way this time also.

The way I see it, if I hear even one small thing about the Opening vid or some interesting scene in the game, but refuse myslef the pleasure to watch the trailer in which it appears, I will spend the next two weeks thinking about and building it up in my head to insane degrees that the game could never hope to live up to. I have a very vivid imagination.

I therefore watched the opening sequence and new trailer (Which are completely awesome) to save myself from ruining the game with impossible to meet expectations.

Besides, they were on the official Wii website. I doubt Nintendo would want to spoil their own game.

i actually meant as opposed to this thread, which was made by the devious amir0x. his master plan of abusing his mod powers to make people abandon my thread in favor of his laughably shallow hype topic with an even more ridiculous first post, is apparently working out quite well... oh amir0x, you sneaky bastard!

haha yeah new movies usually overshadow threads like these

I refuse to look at that thread. I must stay in this thread as I have refused to look at ANY Zelda material from now on, even though his thread is so tempting...I...will....resist....

I know what you mean

For you guys who have watched the trailer.... Just how spoilerish is it? I mean are we talking spoilers about new items in the game or like actual story elements? Major (like plot twists and whatnot) or minor? I really don't want to be spoiled much (I'n not even watching the opening because I'm saving that awesomeness for when I get the game) but I wouldn't have thought an official trailer would give away anything too important... Please help me decide whether to watch or not, READING PEOPLE'S REACTIONS IS KILLING ME!!! :(

The trailer shows a (most likely a very important) new character. It shows new scenes of the Wolfs abilities. It also show a very cool new scene we haven't heard of or seen. And near the very end there's like a 1 second part which may contain a plot twist.

That said, Twilight Rockstar has mentioned that the trailer reveals stuff that comes way later in the game.

It's just a trailer dude. You don't watch trailers for movies you might watch in case of spoilers?

There's nothing in there that I'd call a spoiler. Just gameplay. Just watch it. It's worth it.

I know its been that way for many Zelda's, but when you do something wrong theres always opportunity to change. Its not the biggest deal, but I don't think anyone would miss it, and plenty would be exuberant if it was removed. IMO.

The new trailer just reminded me how much I dislike it.
I'd miss it a lot. I really, really like the pause. :(
It just made each hit seem more satisfying for me, and it showed off the dramatic lighting created by attacks.

LMFAO. It is god-damn impossible for ONM to do anything right. It's against the law of God or some shit.
Let's not be too harsh. They didn't publish it, and Twilight Rockstar can be as wrong as he wants on an internet forum. He had good reason to think that anyways, because he saw all of the in-game options, and aspect ration wasn't there. (You set it in the Wii control panel.) Plus he deserves some credit fo being our only good source of impressions so far.

It's the movie that plays after you let the title screen sit there for a while. Considering how much Nintendo said they wanted to surprise people...

Twilight Rockstar updated his post again. And since these aren't spoilerific but describe the game, I'll mention them.

-He says this is the most challenging Zelda ever
-pretty much confirms that there's no left hand mode (so we can put this behind us finally)

Watch it. It shows more of how the Twilight Realm looks, a little more in detail to how Link to Wolf Link's transformation looks, a little extension of what you saw with the characters in the first town(nothing spoilerish, just more of them "heading out"), and a VERY quick end of trailer preview of 2 special characters(not telling you who as one I dont know who he/she is myself). Storywise, there's very little outside of speculation anyone can make.

I am pumped to hear that. Pumped.

there's no way that this will be the most challenging zelda ever made. by merit of their archaic design, nes games tend to be more frustratingly difficult than modern games. zelda 1's grid system alone makes it more difficult than just about every other zelda game.

Well challenge can mean different things. He could be referring to puzzles as opposed to combat (I haven't read the whole excerpt) and I'm sure he doesn't mean challenge as in a "where the heck is Level 7, I've looked everywhere" type of thing.

Of course, it is ONM. I should have taken that into consideration. ;)

hehe. either way, it doesn't really matter to me. a challenging game today is generally quite a different thing than it was twenty years ago. i'm not sure anyone plays zelda to look for some kind of pressing difficulty, to be honest.

should be interesting, though.

I'm staying out of that thread as well from now on. Yesterday apparently someone spilled some spoilers there (from Famitsu I guess, not the videos). Luckily I managed to read the angry comments first and avoided them.

Anyone knows the size of the overworld in TP, compared to Ocarina of Time?

Well the overworld in TP is approximately 80 square miles. That's 5x the size of Shadow of the Colossus and San Andreas overworld, for example.

I had an odd moment yesterday at the library counter:

Me: Can I get the most recent copy of the WSJ, please?
Black Girl at counter: Yeah sure [she fiddles in the back and comes out with the copy]
Girl: Let's see, there's some good news about Nintendo, that's always good! [she was pointing to the first page]
Me: ...okay.... [i'm so utterly confused and shocked at this moment]
Girl: What you don't play videogames?
Me: I do but I'm a little bit shocked.
Girl: they delayed the new Zelda game [sad face]
Me: No the one on the new system is coming out on the 19th.
Girl: Really?
Me: Yeah the version on the older system got delayed

It seemed like she was getting the GameCube version.

That's a winner, she even wants the superior edition. (Alt 1: Was she hot or ugly? I imagine with such a winning combination she might look like a dog! Alt 2: What did the WSJ article say?)
