I was only bringing up a realism argument to counter the realism argument that "women have nipples [therefore it is not stupid that her nipple is clearly visible]."

I don't care about realism, I care about consistency. I believe, as do many others, that the nipple is inconsistent with the greater context. That's my criticism. I'm not being prudish - I enjoy looking at naked women very much. I like when women behave in a sexual fashion. I just think it's dumb to put a perky erect nipple on a suit designed to protect its wearer.

Now, if you have an argument about why it's not inconsistent, or why I shouldn't be automatically labeling a nipple as pandering, I'm listening. But the "women have nipples so therefore you cannot complain about this nipple" argument is thoroughly refuted as far as I'm concerned.

But that's the zero suit part, isn't it? That suit would just be there as a layer between the armour and the skin, not for protection.

I always found it cool that Samus was model like outside of the suit. That was kinda the whole point to the big reveal. If she was some hulking bodybuilder type (which would still be cool due to the lack of that I guess), it would take away from the contrast they were going for. And besides...who says pretty women can't kick ass? Other M is one game...in every other game Samus gave mofos dat work no problem.

so what is the big deal here? That she is too feminine? Like yeah the art in the OP is a big weirdly composed but fuck guys...its getting to a point where unless they are some androgynous blob that is fully clothed and personality-less that you will complain. Ever think this is a big reason why we don't have a lot of female protags (besides sales of course)?Afraid of backlash for small things.

The problem with this isn't so much the nipple as it is the weird juxtaposition of the shoulders and chest to the suit of armor. If you tore the drawing down to the original pencil line draft and connected the lines for the anatomy you wouldn't be able to create proportions that make sense. Part of the work is a side view and the other part is a 3/4 view. Shiny lights are nice but without a coherent structure to work off of you get a hot mess. The nipple is basically a huge wing spoiler on an 83 Civic with a gold paint job and a dragon stencil on the side.

Nobody has a problem with Samus being pretty, or feminine. People have a problem when an artist, in an otherwise 'serious' depiction of Samus decides to unnecessarily accentuate and idealize her breasts for no purpose other than for the viewer's sexual pleasure. It undermines the art.

I find that the picture I posted, which shows much more skin, is a better representation because it doesn't exaggerate proportions, or focus on them, and the nakedness is there to serve the theme of the piece rather than for titillation.

She doesn't have a collarbone, it seems. Her breasts are located higher than her breastbone (covered by a piece of armor). It makes literally no sense. It's like the artist raised her boobs so that they aren't covered by her arm.

If you read back to the beginning of the thread, it was an issue about inconsistency. Stop trying to strawman. No one is trying to white knight, but people are just weirded out by the intentional inclusion of an element that doesn't fit this hyper realistic depiction of Samus in this image.

The difference is that a nipple was added to Samus to sexualize it (which many find counter-intuitive to Samus's lone bounty hunter personality); and this work is about the female body non-sexualized, just appreciated.

Edit: also many do not seem to realize this is a 3D render post-processed.

Uh...Samus always had tons of hair. Prime is the anomaly not the other way around.

It reminds me of the FF fanbase, and how they pick particular renditions they liked, and have subsequently shit on every other redesign that doesn't match it exactly. Fan artists can absolutely do sexualized art (they can do whatever they want), but the image in the OP is definitely sexualized in a way that makes it out of place with the rest of the image, so it weakens the art. Also, the proportions make zeros sense. It's the incongruity between the "here's Samus being a badass warrior, but at also look at her perky tit, isn't that hot?" that bothers people.

That's about how much hair she has in Super Metroid.

I enjoy the rare but always interesting fan art that indulges the "exoskeleton" suit theory of Samus body mechanics.

Here the concept is handled by Udon artist and hardcore game fan Robaato.

This way the anatomy of the suit, and her own comparative anatomy are not in obvious conflict. Also, it makes the morphball seem more practical, and it makes a suited up Samus seem all the more intimidating.

It looks kinda hilarious though.

The drawing in the OP is pretty damn cool, but it does have some details that detract from it in my view.

I really like sexy pics of Samus and I have no problem with her nipples being rendered however the artist sees fit, I just think people should be honest about WHY the soft mound of her areolas are somehow visible beneath a layer of material.

To that end, I made a quick sketch of Solid Snake. He wears a tight suit, much like Samus.

Somehow I never before thought to draw his erect nipples through his sneaking suit.

Until now.

I cheated one of his nipples over a little bit, away from where it really ought to be, but LOL realism and all that.
