Three in July - Gamebusters

The challenge is to finish three or more games in a month.

It doesn't matter how long or short the games are, or if you're already near the end. Sometimes what counts as finishing a game can be fuzzy, so you can use your own judgement. There aren't any hard rules.

Having this goal can be a good reminder to pick up some old saves, and motivation to continue games through the occasional frustrating times. Some months can be harder than others, and different people have different circumstances, but three can often be an achievable goal to push for.

Please post your goals for the month, and please share your triumphs and setbacks and impressions of the games you play as the month goes by.

How Long to Beat is a big help, as a guide to how much longer a game will take.

Backloggery can be used to keep track of the games you have and haven't finished, to prevent a game from falling through the cracks.

52 Games. 1 Year. 2016. is a thread for if you're looking for a bigger challenge.

I have finished:
Atelier Sophie: Finished on the 7th. A lot of the ways it does things aren't as good as in recent previous Atelier games, but it was still mostly decent. The new 'recipe book' system for progressing through the main story was a mistake.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions: Finished on the 12th. I liked it a lot, though it could be more streamlined by taking out a lot of going back and forth between areas repeatedly, as part of the story or getting new weapons.
The Testament of Sherlock Holmes: Finished on the 13th. It's surprising how similar it is to the most recent two games, just being one larger case instead of several smaller ones. It was going excellently, though towards the end the story became disappointing. I bought the Wii version of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Silver Earring a few weeks ago, which I have played only a little of.
Shadow Complex: Remastered: Finished the story on the 14th. I hadn't played the original version, and this version was delayed here until this month. It's frequently impressive. I finished the story and started going back to collect other things. I have explored 90% of the map and have 66% of the items.
Beyond Eyes: Finished on the 24th. A game about a girl with a visual impairment walking around searching for a cat. As part of the concept suggests, she can not see far in front of herself and she can be mislead by assumptions and sounds, about what is around her. These are represented visually for the player. But slow movement, invisible walls that can be too wide around objects, and intentional object pop-in are a bad combination.
The Walking Dead: Michonne: Episode 1: Finished on the 28th. The story became interesting but there was a lot less gameplay than in other Telltale episodes I've played. It kept the pacing good at least.
The Walking Dead: Michonne: Episode 2: Finished on the 29th. It was a continuation of the overall good pacing and improving story of the first episode.
The Walking Dead: Michonne: Episode 3: Finished on the 31st. It was good, succinct ending. At about 55 minutes long it was surprisingly short though.

Inside - 65% through having played last couple of evenings and loving it. Best played in the dead of night in a dark room with the sound up.

Zero Time Dilemma - Most anticipated game of the year for me, but still waiting for them to patch PS TV support. After playing VLR on the big screen, I can't go back to handheld for this series.

Odin Sphere LeafBrassiere - Never played the original - looks gorgeous on Vita - only a few hours in.

Star Ocean: Integrity & Faithlessness - Not at all convinced yet, but we'll see. Pleasant enough in its averageness.

Can't really work before the 15th because of exams but I have goals either way:

- Transformer: Devastation (PC)
- Max Payne 3 (PC)
- Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
- The Witcher 3 (PC)

My goals:
- Odin Sphere (PS4)
- Valkyria Chronicles (PS4)
- Zero Time Dilemma (Vita)

I'd like to get 100% in all of them, I should be able to do this :p

Going on our family vacation this month so much less gaming time plus kids are out of school....so going to goose some shorter games

But Would like to complete at least 3 in the following list:

1. Limbo - probably already about 1/2 done

2. Inside

3. Portal

4. Borderlands - Maybe about 1/5 to 1/4 done

5. Dark Souls 3 - Probably over 1/3 done

I still have a long way to go to 100% Xenoblade X but who knows.

[WiiU]Xenoblade X- in progress
[3DS]Zero Escape Volume 3: Zero Time Dilemma - pending
[3DS]7th Dragon III Code: VFD - pending

Demon's Souls: LE (PS3)
Banjo-Kazooie (N64/XBLA)
Shenmue (DC)

My backlog is quite small as it is, this should make a huge dent in it.

My goals:

Super Mario RPG - CLEAR!!! (July 13th) finally!, what an awesome game :)
Rhythm Heaven Megamix - CLEAR!! (July 5th) :D now I need to clear challenges to get retro songs :D but.. that will be later...
Mario galaxy 2 - same case as Super Mario RPG... please don't kill me GAF

I have around 3 hours free (spent with my boyfriend...) per day so.. this will be kinda tough but i will do it!

Carrying over Doom and Talos Principle from last month since I beat several other games instead.

Going to add Assassin's creed syndicate, Gravity Rush, and Dark Souls to the list.

I think I may get more done since I have some time off this week.

Looking forward to beating some games this month. This has been fun, and I think it will be good to carry through the end of the year.

Dark Souls Down, I relinked that Flame, I ultimately decided that was the more interesting ending. Left a lot to think about. I killed every major boss possible, and I can now say I am fully 100% initiated in to the group. This is my favorite series. Maybe I can finish DS 2 next month, and then DS 3 the next. Year of Dark Souls. For now though I am going to take a sabbatical from the series so I can beat Doom and AC and see if I can scratch anything else off the list.

Beat DOOM last month and then fell behind thanks to Overwatch taking up all of my gaming time. This month's target:

Uncharted 4
Mortal Kombat XL
Yoshi's Woolly World

Let's see:

- Tokyo Mirage Sessions (Wii U): I think I'm halfway to the end, just beaten ch.3

- Star Ocean 5 (PS4): Plan on starting the game whenever my copy arrives.

- Probably a game that I can play through in one sitting, like Cibele.

Here's my goals...

- Get the Platinum Trophy for Resident Evil 5 on PS4: I got all achievements back on the original release so this should be doable.

- Complete at least the main story of Bayonetta on Wii U: I've been putting this off for too long.

- 100% Kirby: Planet Robobot: Might be tricky since I don't spend much time playing handhelds. I've already 100% the main mode and the 3D Rumble mode.

I've always being stressed by work but I feel this month will be better.

Didn't complete any games in June but considering what it was and continues to be, it's not really a surprise. Highly unlikely that I'll be playing any other games during the summer except for what's listed below until Deus Ex: Mankind Divided gets released in late August.

OVERALL for 2016: 7/18 (39%)

RECAP from JUNE - 0/3 (0%)

My three games for June were the same as they are for July. The Witcher III and the two expansions.

JULY

1 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt / PS4
Currently level 18 and in Novigrad. Simply taking my time with the game as I completed it a year ago with over 300 hours put into the game. Will play a lot more once I start the expansions.

2 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone Expansion / PS4
Along with re-playing the main game, I'll also be playing Hearts of Stone once im finished with the main base game. Looking forward to the two expansions.

3 - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine Expansion / PS4
Really looking forward to playing Blood and Wine after the base game and the Hearts of Stone expansion. It's going to be nothing but three months of The Witcher III and the two expansions.

Alright, here we go.

1. Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright (3DS) - Soon done with this one, I've been away from it for a while so I might need to warm up with some grinding before tackling the difficult end-game chapters.
2. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations (3DS) - Starting from the beginning, recently beat Justice for All, really excited. Probably getting Dual Destinies after this one, though I might have to take a bit of a break first.
3. Uncharted 3 (PS4) - First time playing, started a few days ago and am enjoying it more so far than Uncharted 2. Have only played the first couple of chapters though, so we'll see what happens. Looks really pretty on PS4, love the 60 FPS.

Mirrors Edge: just started playing the other night. probably under an hour in, but digging it. I'll finish it up this weekend. heard it's pretty short.
Axiom Verge: got during the Steam Sale. haven't played a good Metroidvania in a while
not sure what game #3 is yet. but I'll definitely get through at least 3 this month. big backlog. lots of time.

Beat Shantae. Only one word: finally.
Very average title in my opinion or maybe this game genre isn't for me.

3DS
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

NDS
999

PS3
Rage
Devil May Cry 3

PSV
Virtue's Last Reward

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE - Wii U (currently playing)
Zero Time Dilemma - PSV
Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest - 3DS

Should be able to get through them all. TMS is fantastic and I'm playing it every day, and I know ZTD will consume me once I start it. Conquest I'll be playing on normal/casual difficulty (because I suck) so that shouldn't be much trouble either.

- Star Ocean 5 (will try to plat)
- Adventure of Mana Vita (will try to plat)
- I Am Setsuna (will try to plat)

This month marks Month of the non-FF/DQ/KH SE JRPGs

Last month I completed 2.

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast and Limbo. Don't think I'll be doing much gaming this month as I'll be spending much of my time visiting my old friends across the pond. Most gaming will likely be multiplayer then.

So realistically I'm going to go mobile:

Another World
Ghost Trick
Mirror's Edge: Catalyst (If any of my friends happens to have this, I'll try to play through as I'm a huge fan of the first and don't have a PS4/XB1/worthy PC)

Failed last month's miserably, only finished Blood & Wine and second playthrough of Uncharted IV, and started on FFX HD, instead of doing God of War III and Rogue Galaxy.

This month (have only limited time), my three will be these:

FFX HD (PS4)
ICO (PS3)
God of War III (PS3)

After FFX HD (roughly 20 hours in already), I have two short games (roughly 7 and 10 hours respectively), which should be doable. Then again, said that last month as well...

Edit: As a mental exercise for myself and possibly an interesting insight, I want to talk about my backlog shortly in this post. At this moment (as of July 3rd 2016), I own 28 unfinished games on PS3 and PS4, some short but others quite long (50 or more hours). Making some educated guesses (thanks to howlongtobeat.com), I have estimated the the time needed to complete them at roughly 1155 hours, giving an average backlog game length of around 41 hours. To me, the number of hours seems extremely intimidating, but then again, finishing even one game per month would diminish my backlog in just over two years, so I'm keeping hope!

Two down one more to go.

PC
Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Just started the bank of England mission.

Wii/Wii-U
Super Mario Galaxy 2. Im close to gettng 70 stars so hopefully i can get the rest them out of the way

Afforable Space Time Adventure. Pretty much just started it but I've heard its not very long

I'll be going for the 100% achievement completion on the following.
Xbox One - Assassin's Creed Syndicate (started), Inside (started) & Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Three of the following at least, I'm sure is gonna be more though:

  • Sunset Overdrive (XONE)
  • Ni no Kuni (PS3)
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (X360)
  • El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (X360)
  • Red Dead Redemption (X360)
  • Halo 5: Guardians (XONE)
  • Metal Gear Solid 2 (X360)
  • Limbo (XONE)
  • Splinter Cell: Conviction (X360)

Easy month for goals for me.

Zero Time Dilemma - no brainer, waiting for literal years, would beat already if no 100 hour work week. :p

Ys I - had really started getting into this before the aforementioned ZTD came out, will definitely go back to it once I'm done.

Tales of Symphonia - Haven't played a Tales game before, and this will be a summer sale game I bought and beat this month.

Games I beat in June:
Uncharted 4
Red Dead Redemption
Dishonored
Fallout 4: Far Harbor
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

Games I want to finish this month:
Batman: Arkham City (almost done)
Mafia 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Dark Souls 3

Hoping to finish:

-Mad Max (Currently ~50%)
-Odin Sphere PS4 - (About to wrap up the second character campaign...of 5?)
-Doom 2016/Uncharted 4 (Need to just put in the time to see them through)

-Star Ocean 5/Tokyo Mirage Sessions/Tales of Zestiria/God Eater Remaster. (Should not be thinking of these, but I have them waiting for me to play deeper)

But Would like to complete at least 3 in the following list:

1. Limbo

2. Inside

3. Portal

4. Borderlands - Maybe about 1/5 to 1/4 done

5. Dark Souls 3

Got my 3 done for the month thanks to short games and getting a head start on DS 3. (and the fact after beating it, I looked up to see what I missed and I missed one secret area).

just finished Mirror's Edge. story was pretty lackluster, but interesting enough to make me go "whoa" at the ending. the last two levels were just so much stealth-gunfighty than the previous 8 or whatever, but it made the stakes feel higher. good shit.
only got half of the yellow suitcases; don't think I'm gonna go back and get the rest anytime soon.

stoked to start Axiom Verge.

I think I'm gonna go with The Evil Within for #3. played the first 30-60 minutes of that a couple of months ago, thought it was super cool, and then forgot to keep playing it.

I'll pick the three games in playing now I guess:

Odin Sphere- Just finished Velvet's story, so I'm definitely going to complete this one in July. Beautiful game, and I love the fairy-tale inspired stories. Another great game by Vanillaware

Star Ocean 5- I'm about 9 hours in. As my first Star Ocean game, I'm finding it enjoyable but also understand the mediocre reviews it got. Since I hear it's pretty short, I'm fairly sure I'll finish it.

Twilight Princess HD- Even though I'm a huge Zelda fan, I'd never played this one. I like the dungeon design, but I had the padding inbetween. This is the only one I'm not sure I will finish, though I'd like to so I can move on to Tokyo Mirage Sessions. We'll see!

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Zero Time Dilemma
7th Dragon III Code: VFD

I'll do those for sure at least (already finished SO5), probably a couple more too.

Persona 4 (currently at 54 hours)
Borderlands 2 (currently at 16 hours)
Super Hexagon (currently at 3 hours)

I might get all 3 beaten by the end of the month, it depends on how busy I am with other things

Edit: I started the first 2 in May and June so unsure if they count

The Last of Us (Survivor Mode)
Metal Gear Solid 4
Severed

Finished TLOU yesterday, probably my 4th time beating it but first time back in a couple years and wow does that game still hold up well, even on PS3.

I'm guessing games we started playing last month won't count otherwise I would have thrown on Dark Souls 2 or GTAV. I did just finish MGS3 but I think I started playing it late June as well. Oh well, but wow was that game amazing. Can't believe that was over 10 years ago when that came out and I'm just barely now realized it's true greatness.

It doesn't matter when you started the game. It's the finishing this month that matters. :)

Completely forgot to update.
Few days ago I beat Rage. 7/10 game for me. Borderlands was much, much better title.
Currently playing in 999. Brillant game so far.

3DS
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

NDS
999

PS3
Rage
Devil May Cry 3

PSV
Virtue's Last Reward

just beat Axiom Verge. awesome game. definitely gonna go back to it soon and try and find all the shit I didnt get (Item%: 58% :)

also, I re-played thru Final Fantasy IX last week. it'd be forever since I'd played the PSX version and the new Steam port was incredible.

that's my three for the month, but I'm on a god damn video game binge right now. gonna start I Am Setsuna tonight or tomorrow. it's been forever since I've played a new JRPG
I also have one more achievement in BoI Afterbirth before I've officially "1001%'d that game." I'll totally count that if I get it.
Edit: got that last one.

- Transformer: Devastation (PC)
- Max Payne 3 (PC)
- The Witcher 3 (PC)
- Axiom Verge (Vita)

Since The Fall bugged me out after I tried reloading my save, I swapped it with The Witcher 3. Planned to play it in the following weeks but it sucked me in so I binged it in the last weeks. What an awesome game. Jumped in my All-Time-Fav-List.

Finished 999.
Very good VN. Did 4 endings, including true. Enough. Next month I am going to beat VLR and maybe Zero Time Dilemma.

3DS
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

NDS
Zero Escape: 999

PS3
Rage
Devil May Cry 3

PSV
Virtue's Last Reward
