Titan Souls |OT| One Hit Wander

Well, after holding out my $20 credit during the whole spring sale, decided to give Titan Souls a shot. Left downloading on my Vita last night and when I arrive from work Ill give it a go.

But, regardless, how is it on Vita?

The cheevos in this game are pretty fun. The slot save mechanic has its retro charm but it actually makes it quite a chore to get some of them. I had to make a new slot and beat the first four again to earn a bunch of them.

A hint for anyone struggling to work out the forest:
follow the mushroom spores

Right now the ones that are still stumping me are:
the yeti, the boulder, skull face, the knight
any suggestions on what to try and kill first?

Skull face (presuming it is the one you mean)
you have to guide his little pillar's ice beam of death into his face. Or rather, his teeth. It'll break any it hits and give you a gap to fire in.

I'm sure he isn't referring to the superboss which is a phenomenal battle.

How do I unlock the superboss? I didn't really do anything after beating
The Soul
, since it was pretty late where I'm at. Does it have anything to do with beating all the titans? I know I have, like, 3 of those left.

Cheesed
the yeti
in the ice region. I would suggest avoiding the achievements because it might show you some strategies that undermine certain Titans. I just couldn't work it out though. In the fire region
the boulder
was the least satisfying Titan by far. Painting yourself into a corner with something so fast was never going to be fun, with a no roll run that is going to be one of the hardest I think.

edit. The time windows on the
Knight
are so rough, you get knocked down so much. I think by running to get your arrow then firing might work.

edit 2. I think this game makes a bad final impression. The last fight is just ridiculous.

But, regardless, how is it on Vita?
Perfect! I have spent the overwhelming majority of my time playing it on Vita and I couldn't be happier. It runs well, no hiccups, and looks great (I am on the Vita 2000).

My only complaint is that the load times are 5-10 seconds, whereas on the PS4 they are practically instantaneous.

Thanks for the impressions. Can't wait to play it on my Vita 1000 (I can't let that screen go). Looking forward to get my ass handed to me. I'm a sucker for good boss fights and so far this game seems to deliver.

I really want to like this game but I am just so bad at it. I love the style and mechanics, I just can't get very far with the bosses themselves.

I really don't think TB did anything wrong. He was going to let it go until the indie clique on Twitter started congratulating themselves for hating on him.

He didn't. But people hate Totalbiscuit and they will come up with any reason to bash him.

But holy shit, that guy on twitter seems like a massive douchebag. Someone says "this game isn't for me" and you print it out, and take a picture of said print to prove that you did in fact print it out? What the hell is wrong with him...

I bought this game literally just because the creator flamed the shit out of Total Biscuit on twitter apparently.

What the hell is wrong with you people.... seriously. Totalbiscuit innocently tweets that a game isn't for him, some guy acts like a massive child in response (LOL he said toilet), and that's enough for you to want to buy a game? You hate someone THAT much that any negative remark towards that person is deserving of praise?

Okay, first playthrough is officially completed!

Took me a total of 3 hours with no time spent idle. I think it definitely warrants a second playthrough as you do get a few post-completion rewards.

After reading a few other people's comments, I have to ask:
Is it possible to advance to the "Image of a Titan Soul" boss without defeating every other Titan in the game, and is this what determines whether or not you fight Truth after? I think I defeated every Titan before heading to the end of the game, so I got to fight Truth after the credits. What a fucking fight that was.

So yeah. Interested to see people's thoughts on the endgame.

Yes, beat all the remaining titans and a new gate will open beyond the final boss room.

Cleared the first four and somehow got stumped on the first boss I went to when it opened up.

Ice region boss question:
Do you NOT shoot the yeti in the ass? I swear I've hit it directly at least twice and no reaction. Seems the best tactic has been to dodge the three rolls with the last one placing yourself near where he hits the wall and then fire into his butt but I'm getting nothing. Am I simply missing the target or is that not the right way to fight it? Don't need full tactics, more just to let me know if I'm doing it right or wrong. I don't believe I ever shot an icicle so perhaps that's the path I should be checking?

Just played the demo, yeah this just isn't for me.

Cool concept.. just totally wrong for me. Boring walking between quick fights.

You do shoot him in the ass, at least that's how I beat him. :P I think you just have to be pretty precise/on point with the timing.

The walks are much shorter in the final game. I was thinking about timing them but it's not worth my effort. Some people already made up their mind.

Thanks. The first time I thought I might have been a little off but the second seemed a direct hit. I'll get back to it soon and just keep at it.

I'm looking forward to what else the other titans do. And I skimmed the trophies real quickly and other than the trophy for the titan in question I quickly forgot the rest so they could be fun for a replay since it seems it's fairly quick to run through this.

Also, I really hope this gets worked into the Awesome Games Done Quick stream. I bet a speed run by someone really good is nuts to see.

Thanks for the impressions, the game is incredible. Even getting crushed by the first few bosses (defeated the easy slime one).

Anyone know how many total bosses there are?

So far I killed
19
, trying to make sure I got all of them.

If you fought
Truth
, then you've beaten them all. I don't remember the exact number, but I believe the number you have in spoilers is it.

This game is incredible, and a perfect example of what makes the Vita such a tremendous device for playing these indies on.

I love how each boss fight is a puzzle, and figuring out the right tactic and getting it to work is exhilarating as hell.

Weird! I understand why people dislike having to walk to the bosses each time, but at the same time I think it is an odd complaint considering 99% of the time this game is all about gameplay so condensed and precise that I find it hard to walk away from it feeling like I wasted my time. Very hard.

If it's the prototype demo I can see people being put off. It's not like the main game where the walk is short. It's a pretty big trek to most of the bosses.

I can see where the developer is coming from regarding the TB "controversy". If Person X was well known as a person supporting a movement you were against, and Person X didn't like your game, wouldn't you be glad in a sort of weird way?

Honestly you're better off just ignoring all the twitter drama.

The Steam forums for this are basically unreadable. (not that they're usually much better)

Anyway, found the last 2 Titans I missed before. Only the
real final boss
left.

Played for a bit today. Stuck at the
Titan Soul
boss, not entirely sure what to do. I also really hope it's not the last. :/

There's a true final boss you can fight once you've beaten every other boss, also it's possible you missed some, because you can fight that boss you're currently fighting even if you haven't beaten all of them yet.

That's not necessary: once you beat the true final boss you can just continue that save, as the entire world will then be open, and you can just go directly to any boss to fight them over and over for the achievements.

Beating the final boss is a big ask for me. The game made a very poor last impression. I would imagine that most players will get other achievements without beating that particular boss.

I'm close to buying this. I just want to clear a couple of games from my backlog first (finished Stealth Inc. last night and I may try to power through the rest of Velocity Ultra tonight).

How will I enjoy this if I beat the demo in about 15 minutes and enjoyed it a bit along the way? How'd the difficulty or enjoyability of it compare to the demo?

Well that's... disappointing, to say the least. Looking at the previous 'how many bosses' question, I guess I paid $15 for a puzzle game with only 20~ short puzzles? Kept waiting for the game world to open up more..

Game should have been like $5, and that's coming from someone who would've easily payed $60 for other indies like Axiom Verge and Ori.

So, I ended up buying this last night. Liking it a lot so far; lovely visuals and I really like the desolate atmosphere a lot more than I expected. It really does feel a lot like SotC in 2D. Got to the
Stone Face With Spiky Mace Hands
and
Hot Blob of Lava
, and I couldn't beat either of them. I did manage to defeat the
Treasure Chest
boss - was that a hidden boss, or do they become available later in the game?

The first four bosses are very simple and straightforward, but after that they quickly ramp up in difficulty and the way to defeat them sometimes isn't even clear.

I'll admit that I bought this based on the art style alone and had no idea what kind of game it would be.
For some reason I presumed it was a top down Zelda-style RPG and when I found out it wasn't I was initially put off.

HOWEVER, after playing it for a couple of hours I am truly hooked.
I LOVE the fact that I tried each boss one by one and convinced myself that there must be a levelling/power up based system that must be used before facing each boss.
In reality, it all comes down to confidence, as soon as I'd beaten the first boss the game clicked with me and I managed to do the next 2 without breaking a sweat.

I'll defo be attempting to finish this beast!

I wasn't sure what to make of this yesterday, I was in two minds thanks to a couple of bosses but after playing some more today I'm completely loving this game.

First off its weird that the bosses only take one hit. I was sure that bosses would end up getting health bars or something crazy but so far (with around 12ish bosses defeated) the most its taken to kill a boss is 2 hits. I like this idea, it boils things down to simply learning the weakspot and exploiting it, it makes it feel really satisfying when you get that (lucky) hit on a boss taking it down, or completely working out the bosses attack pattern and picking the perfect point to finish him.

The difficulty seemed to vary wildly with the bits I was doing today - I visited the
lava cave
slightly later and ended up finding the bosses easier than those I'd been tackling. The
rolling boulder
was a hilarious push over that took me mere seconds to beat! The
skull titan with the dual maces
was a satisfying kill as I figured out exactly how to manipulate him into spinning and managed to get the trophy for killing him while spinning.

The
knight
was perhaps the least clear on what you had to do to harm him to begin with, though really its right in front of your face as you have to damage the arrow to even start the battle.

The only two frustrating bosses so far for me were the
mushroom and floating face/mask
. The first of which was annoying due to its attack pattern and small weak spot. Plus with me evading all the attacks it made it hard to accurately shoot the arrow. The second of the bosses was annoying as I figured the pattern and weakness out perfectly, but couldn't beat the boss so I was certain I was wrong. A quick check on a guide later confirmed my strategy, so I was a tad annoyed at how finicky it seemed to register the hit.

My only real gripe with the game in general so far is the lack of quick restart against bosses, it sucks (especially on the Vita version) to die, hit a load screen then have to traverse to the boss area again. I'd have loved to have a quick restart so that you could jump straight back into the action. Also a map so I could tell where I'd been as one area in particular is massive and I'm sure I've missed a couple of bosses there but can't tell due to how large the area is.

All in all I'm loving it. I love decent boss battles and this game has a nice take on the entire mechanic. I'll be playing for quite a while, the trophies look hard as nails!

Love the game. I think they could do well with a boss mode as the major complaint people have is 'too much walk to boss'. Those of us who enjoy the atmosphere and exploration will get what we want out of the game. Both sides pleased.

Just finished it, and truth to be told, I expected a lot more. It took around 3 hours to beat all bosses
including the "Truth"
. Story was non-existent, so wasn't any sort of exploration beyond looking for "hidden bosses" and while boss desing was pretty good, I don't think I can score it higher then 6-6,5/10.

Man, the
Flower With Four Spiky Arms
is kicking my arse. I must have died against the fucker 20 times. The arms I can deal with, but it's that fucking purple gas that gets me the moment I stop.

Also, I really should learn the names of these bastards.

He's an arsehole.
If you run-roll a couple of times after going in the purple cloud, you'll recover. Take out the arms, shoot him in the mouth as he inhales, retrieve your arrow to open him up, and then shoot the little sphere inside the flower.

Just need to be careful when taking out the arms, if possible I found it best to group the arms in one area. If your unlucky (like me) you end up making it harder to navigate the area thanks to the severed arms lying around all over the place blocking your path!

I can
take out the arms
? Cool, I will try that. I've managed to get it in the mouth a couple of times with the arrow but I never have time to retrieve it and then hit it again before getting squished.
