To those who are playing games less, what are your new hobbies?

otake

Doesn't know that "You" is used in both the singular and plural
I stopped playing video games years ago. My brother still plays and when I watch what he's playing it doesn't look fun to me at all. My hobbies switched to exercising, cooking and movies. Truth be told, I get a lot more fun from my finances than I ever did from videogames. I'm constantly trying to make more money, figure out ways to save, and payoff debt sooner. Maybe that's a hobby too. No more videogames for me.

Unfortunately for me, my hobbies away from gaming are way more expensive. Gaming was a way for me to stay entertained while I tried to save money! I used to be able to stay home with a few beers and be completely satiated for the weekend. What the H happened to those days?

Music is extremely expensive and way too easy to buy software.
Cooking is not that expensive, but when I do, I tend to make more than I need and I throw leftovers out after a few days. Sometimes I'll buy good groceries, like a nice fish and herbs, and never get around to cooking it until I open up the fish and DAMN!

One thing I would like to study as a hobby is learning more about the history of food, and cultural origins.

Reading another thread allowed me to recall a connection I made over the past week. I clued in that browsing GAF (and elsewhere on the internet) is technically a hobby.

working out & Yoga. I'd rather spend an hour working out to improve my health and socialize than playing a game. Though in these days I'm only playing with my friends. Don't know when the last time was when i sat down and played a game alone.

I've been teaching myself to produce my own hip hop in Ableton. It's really satisfying to make all the beats, record your vocals, and then mix it all and end up with a song that you made 100% by yourself.

Im perplexed more gamers arent into it tbh. Its like a video game in VR, except way more of a rush.

What are you flying?

Yes, it is a lot of fun. You also have to optimize and make your own things like had to, when you played games on the PC.

Indoors I fly a Blade Inductrix, outside of my house there is a school yard there I am flying an Inductrix Pro, an Eachine Bat QX105, the QX110 and the King Kong Q 100. On the field for racing I use the Lizard 95, the Blade Torrent, Furibee X140 and the King Kong Fly Egg 130. I also have the Wizard X220, the BFight 210 and the Furibee GT 215.

I change between quads because some of them fly very different and if I crash one I can continue to fly. I also made sure that they can all use the same Lipos. For example the Blade Inductrix uses the same as my small helicopters. The 1s for the Eachine quads work with all 100 to 110 copters as well and the 2-3s lipos for racing are working with all the mentioned quads. Same goes for the big ones. I can even use the LiPos for my small RC boat and the 300 size helicopter.

This is most of my builds;
https://rotorbuilds.com/profile/1306/

I also have added a Diatone GT R90 to my collection. Most of those builds in my build log are out of date as I am always changing components, but when I go out my mainstay quads are;

Diatone GT R90 2" (also is my backyard flyer)
ImpulseRC Helix 5"
Armattan Chameleon 5"
Karearea Talon 5"

I never ended up liking my Kraken Worx 5" too much so it's pulled down atm.

I also have a 450 and 700 size Trex (both flybarless with DFC heads and the Trex has the optional more powerful motor and HV servos) but I've never flown them yet despite having both for about 5 years, just too caught up on the miniquads!

Used to do cars also but I find them boring now. I like the soldering and building of quads and how robust they are, which is why I haven't flown the Heli's, every crash needs some work and the 700 is just too expensive to crash and I'm not working for reasons of anxiety right now so it's sitting there as a nice big shelf queen.

Honestly..

Around 4 years ago I was fresh out of a long term relationship, 12 years.

I stopped gaming and wasting a single moment of life.
I was lost at first...then I found "The Red Pill"
And not this "How to be a pick up artist/MRA" but instead how to be a better man. How to embrace my masculinity so to say and be a better man.
It was like opening a pandoras box on how to get everything you want (as a man) Money, respect, influence, and...lots of GREAT sex lol
From eating better, going to the gym religously, broading my mind via books, learning to play an instrument, learning to paint, etc..

I've changed my life drastically through this.
I was a game collector, 5-6 hours a day, porn enthusiast, etc..Happy to work my dead end job and have direct deposit put my money in my wifes account.

Now I my hobby is just self-improvement.
New job, gym religously, yoga, meditation, etc.. I went from being 145lbs to my dream look (Brad Pitt fight club body!) I went from $12 hair cuts to $80 hair cuts. I realized "I am the prize"

Last year bought a house, got my "Fox news achor" look alike conservative GF, and been teaching myself carpentry, electric, plumbing etc.. to make it my castle.

I'm going to school for plumbing, be done in April. if you have any questions, let me know

Aver since i opened my tattoo shop a couple of years ago, i have been playing only at night and that is when i am not dead tired.
After i wake up i go to the gym than work, after after that it is already late.
So i cook a bit, a really nice hobby i gkr myself, and then watch a movie or serie or video game.

Well done mate, sounds like you turned a corner.

It was funny reading how you described your GF as "Fox news achor look alike". Would be fun to play pin the tail on the Fox anchor game.

I've been watching a lot more movies too thanks to MoviePass. 4k discs have started to hit better price ranges so I have been buying movies here and there also.

Slowly teaching myself piano also.

I have greatly reduced my gaming time this generation. I used to play practically everyday until last generation, then 1 game a year for a few years, and now none.

Basically work and family (wife and kids) have taken over my life. I have no more energy to focus on gaming.

I game maybe 2 - 3 hours on every other day.

Other hobbies include cycling, hiking, roadtripping, movies, anime, guitar, harmonica, and I just recently bought a motorcycle. And then there's GAF.

I have stopped videogames all together. It's too time consuming which can be used on doing something productive like reading and painting.

Trying to squeeze in competitive gaming, between a Mon-Fri work schedule plus side work. It's rare if I find the urge to play after work. Not much else I do than game & work.

Board games. The modern board gaming scene is incredible and it's a lot of fun to have friends over, have some drinks and dive into a new game

Ditched video games a few years ago. I casually play on my GF's Wii one hour per week or so, or even less.
I focus all my free time in learning to play guitar really good. I'm on my second year now and progress is coming along good, I practice 1 to 3 hours per day.

Work has really ramped up for me so less vidya games. I mostly watch Netflix and play with my drone on weekends.

Comic illustration. As a Minnesotan, I live near the Mall of America and I tend to go there on a weekly basis to draw on the Surface Hub. It got to the point where the manager asked me if I'd like to teach kids how to draw on weekends.

It was cool at first. But it clicked pretty quickly that in that environment...kids are more interested in drawing and playing on the board than actually learning. So I gave that up. But I still come in to do some drawings to help stir business for them. (And to help get my name out.)

Coding indie video games for retro systems. Some daily exercise (weights) & cooking.

I still play games, however. I've just shifted my time allocation for each activity around. I find it interesting that some people who now have no interest in video games are still hanging out on a video game forum.

I like your builds and I understand your problems with helis. I crashed my 300 and it was not even a hard crash but still it cost me over 100 bucks to repair everything. However as much as I like quads, helis still fly so special it is amazing to fly around with them, they can do things you cannot do with a quad. And the bigger they get the more stable they actually fly.

I also have cars and I love to drive them on the track, but unfortunately the closest to my place just closed. I hope there will be something new soon. It is strange, the hobby is somehow dying because they market was flooded with cheap planes, quads, helis and cars over the last few years, but quality has never been better. I have so amazing planes and 10 years ago, nobody thought you can something this great out of the box. But fewer people fly now, because if you are not lucky and life near a rc airstrip it is hard to enjoy your hobby.

It has been awhile since I played video games, since Witcher 3. It also has been a few months since I watch professional lol eSports.

Now I watch more movies thanks to MoviePass, more oldies such as Charlie Chaplin films, Citizen Kane, and Vertigo, and more Music and Audiobooks.

I realized that I don't enjoy playing video games as much as my other hobbies.

Education, Programming, professional development, and saving up for a robot body.

You would be surprised at how many lurked/came here with an interest for games and grew out of it since.... and stayed for the off topic discussion.

Or might not play anymore, but still have an interest in staying updated in the field.

Once GTA comes out, I'm sure I'll be playing that. Possibly RDR

Kids is the biggest aspect, playing with them, taking them places, cleaning up.

Weekdays are typically get up at 5am, get myself and kids ready, drop them off, goto work, pick them up, play with them/clean house, dinner, get them ready for bed, read them books, watch a tv show, bed. Rinse, repeat.

Saying that I do want to use my commute time to write a book but often use it to catch up on news instead.

I was shooting pool a lot. Even won two trips to Hawaii. Unfortunately had to cancel the 2nd trip and hang up pool for at least the time being. Fun times though.
