What other hobbies do you have outside of gaming?

Gaming is my top hobby. I collect and play. Big into physical releases.

Other than that,

Building cars, especially Miatas.
Vaporwave cassettes and vinyl
HiFi (i'm still pretty new to this)
Cooking

This is my pride and joy, it's an amalgamation of rare and vintage Japanese parts that I have found and brought to the US. Always more to be done.

Working out with weight's and bench, power tower and punch bag, watching some tv shows, not many films nowadays and relaxing, sleeping and doing nowt, i'm pretty good at that lol.

Yeh don't try and keep up with the kids....I learnt the hard way at the jump park.

Mind you with your BMX racing background at least you'll have the basics of jumping, manualing and bunnyhops down. Trying to learn at about 40 with a 23kg ebike is bit of a strain

eBikes are a blessing and a hinderance. I've gone a Specialised, like my son's bike, and couldn't be happier. Super light weight, dual suspension, disc brakes and generally just easy to ride. I went with smaller wheels on advice from my son's friend who is a sponsored MTB rider. The BMX memory is there, the lack of fear isn't. One thing that is totally new to me is the bunny hop compressing your suspension down before springing up and landing with suspension of MTB. It's totally different as I had to be smooth on a fixed frame BMX or you were eating dirt. MTB is far more forgiving, something that is appreciated by this old man.

Yeh I never rode BMX as a kid, I had a dirt bike though. I have natural balance and coordination to an extent, but I cannot for the life of me bunnyhops worth a damn or jump. I am getting to jumping now, clearing doubles that are over a bike length, but it still scares me and I feel like learning to bunnyhop a 25kg ebike is maybe not as easy as bunnyhopping a BMX lol. I do have a DJ (Norco Rampage 1) but honestly I feel like I'm closer to learning to b'hop the bigger ebike for some reason.

It's funny you mention how forgiving the ebike is vs the BMX. I totally get that on smoother trails, as there's a dirt jump park I went to on my full sus ebike first, and then later on my dirt jumper and I couldn't believe how rough the surface felt after my full sus ebike; it made me realise how much the full sus ebike smoothed out the surface....but trust me where I ride the trails are covered in so much jank, loose and dug in rocks and drops, I've used all of that suspension or felt like I wanted more of it lol.

BMX is easier to learn bunny hops with, smaller and easier to throw around. Especially true with getting the back of the frame up, remember to push out/back down with your handlebars to gain the height your fronted is leading with.

Son came off on a 18 foot gap the other week, got away with grazes on hip and shoulder but broke his helmet strap and outside cage. Time for me to get him a solid full face one. He and his mates are really starting to push jumps over trails.

Yeh I do the anti-row to get the front wheel forward and rear up when jumping, it's just getting the front wheel up to begin with. Getting up into that standing position with the handlebars at your hips is the part I can't do, and when I do manage to really get the front wheel up I have the timing off somehow and the rear can feel like a dead weight.

I'm using Kyle and Apriles technique for jumps which is to just use a basic pop method rather than a full boost as I occasionally still back away from the jump and go a bit dead sailor and also because I don't fancy going OTB by loading the rear too much compared to the front, so I sort of trying to pop the bike but I am also shit scared of pumping to hard and semi squash the lip or move my weight back causing further issues.

The damn kids make it look way too easy. Steep and loose shit? No problem, if my wheels don't have to leave the ground, I'll have at it. Need to get in the air? Yeh I start getting tense.

On injuries, dude I don't ride without body armour and a full face hey. I dunno how MTBers do it; so many peeps ride like animals in nothing but a half shell helmet. Fuck that. I don't care if I am the odd one out, chest, back, hip padding, gloves, knee and shin pads with a full face at a minimum for me even in summer. In winter or wilder rides, shoulder and elbows too.

Just bought a new helmet I'm really liking, the Smith Mainline. Compared to the Fox Pro Frame and TLD Stage it made them look cheap in build quality. Only thing that's a bit annoying is it can creak a bit, but I'm used to the ebike rattle of the motor anyway so I don't even notice it now.

Good to hear your kids alright but yeh, 18+ foot jumps? Full face time mate.

I like drawing, watching TV, and most importantly, working with computers. Some of the computer-y things I do include repair, (I know you said OUTSIDE of gaming, but I have to mention that I also do computer gaming) and programming to a degree. Objective-C is my preferred programming language. I also like reading, particularly comics and non-fiction books, though I do like some novels (my favorite novel is Johnny Got His Gun).

Futsal / Football
Travelling

Any futsal players here?

HERE!!! Futsal representing and may have got myself signed up for old-folks 11-a-side too :p

Played in a semi-pro ranked futsal league in the UK waaaaaay back, and played at a decent level in Tokyo (more so at 11-a-side) . Captained a few teams to futsal glory :O

I'm now rattling towards 50 though, but i've signed up for a local team's 50+ side but can't start until 49th Birthday - gives me time to get fit again.

Only played once in the last 2 years or so, but yeah - did alright, group of seniors related to Blackpool FC :D

Lately I've been pretty lame.

Work. Tv/video games. Bed.

I've been trying to be more creative so sketching and print screening is something I got into a little.

I was halfway through the 2nd broken earth book and I got distracted. Good series FYI. That was a few months ago. The only thing I've read for hobby is the marvel app.

Really gotta get back to exercising as a hobby. Home improvement is a hobby that I'm still inspired to do as is gardening so it's not all gloom

Gaming is my #1 hobby, but my other hobbies include sprite animating and music listening. I'm thinking to get into some other hobbies like comic book reading or reading in general and card games...considering something like Magic the Gathering

Everything that I dabble in is just sporadic and optional compared to my main go-tos since time began-

1. Video Games
2. Lego

Lately I've been grappling with just how many hours I've accrued in both, thing is I will default to these things like some people watch TV, barring a better notion of what to do.

Why not? Just don’t spend too much monry on things you definitely don’t need, growing and styling a tree is so rewarding

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
Gaming is like the default mode for me since it's the easiest thing to get into and I've been doing it since I was a little kid. I got 4 consoles, 2 VR headsets, and a gaming PC, with close to 2000 games in total between all of those platforms. I have a ton of gaming peripherals, accessories, and other doodads to make the hobby more fun and varied.

But sometimes, even I like to get away from all of it and just do something else. Like sketch drawing, for example. Or video editing. Or biking.

I've been also thinking quite seriously about getting into model making. I'm just not sure where to start with it. I've been even considering getting into Warhammer 40k tabletop just for the figure painting aspect of it, but I think gluing some jet fighters could also be pretty fun.

So anyway, what are your hobbies outside of gaming?
You guys play vidyagames?

Pfff too much actually...

I watch a lot of movies, around 20 - 25 each month. Mostly the new releases, also a lot of noir, horror, cult stuff and catching up on old classics. I mostly watched all sci-fi in existence :p

I tinker around trying to make electronic music, mostly drum'n'bass or IDM. I have some hardware synths but I find I mostly use VST / softsynths.

I read and collect graphic novels, mostly European (francobelgian) but also some US and Japanese stuff.

I also like boardgames, have a nice collection but it's hard to find people and time to actually get a game going.

I have too many hobbies and not enough time to dedicate them. They usually rotate between:

- Karate/Boxing
- Building and tinkering with PCs and/or my media server
- Music and mid level audiophile stuff
- Reading books
- Watching classic movies or TV shows I missed out on back in the day
- Reading and collecting comics mainly physical collected editions (Omnibus, Absolutes, OHCs etc)
- Going on walks or driving around to random places I've never been to before
- Travelling
- Cooking / BBQing / Smoking
- Enjoying beers (prefer hefenwizens, pilsners, blonds, also can enjoy a nice IPA if not crazyily hoppy) enjoying wine (zinfandel, pinot noirs, primitivo, bordeauxs)
- Fine dining / trying random and different restaurants and cuisines
- Working on my cars
- Personal finance
- Watching some sports, NBA, NFL mainly, also MMA, and motorsports, F1, WEC, Le Mans, Motocross, Indy

Programming, in web dev space. Really good hobby since it has basically endless depth.

Tv shows and reading. I can usually focus on only one story at a time, unless it's weekly show. I don't really like movies anymore and watch maybe total of 5 movies a year.

Gym working out. I am hoping to start running as well if I am successful with my weight loss.

Kinda all of my hobbies are somehow related to gaming, so i don't know. I can say that i like some of minor stuff like sitting online and searching for something and that's it

I believe that there may be something else for me, but i can't find it. Frankly I often find myself immersed in a captivating pastime: browsing through photos of clothing and various other random items. This leisurely activity allows me to explore a world of style, creativity, and inspiration. As I scroll through images of clothing, I discover new fashion trends and timeless classics. It's not just about shopping; it's about appreciating the artistry in design and the way colors, fabrics, and textures come together to create unique pieces. I often save my favorite looks, creating a digital wardrobe of ideas for future outfits. I can even sit for hours and watch photos of black tshirt and that's it. I am not a unique person definitely

I love to read various books and articles about human anatomy. I have always been interested in how our body works. Especially how our brains work, how they form thoughts and store memories. I think everyone can agree that our whole life depends on brain health. Although the brain is not fully understood, scientists have come to the conclusion that it is very similar to the universe. I wonder what other discoveries await us in the future.
