Totilo: The PS4's Cloud Save System Is Inadequate

He isn't wrong and as someone who only plays on Playstation Ive been becoming more and more less impressed with the PS plus service, the garbage download times and the dreadful UI the PS4 has.

I really wish Sony would step it up with their features (this being one of them). Love my PS4, but I need folders, more organization, leaderboards, and better overall features if I'm to continue paying for PSN.

Give us more storage or force developers to use 10mb save files as maximum Sony. Everything else is unacceptable. There are games which sends 500mb files to your cloud on PS4. Wtf is this? They can't be serious with that or can they?

It's definitely the worst, but, it also makes me wonder why save files are so big this gen. Never ran into this problem on PS3 and it was my main console.

I don't think the save gets deleted when you delete an install, it's just that you can't download a save from the cloud without having the game installed.

There are a few "big fish" games that just have idiotically huge save files relative to the cloud storage limit, but for my single-system usage, it's been manageable. But there's a friend who'll do local co-op gaming with me on my system, and he runs into practical issues with what has or hasn't synced often enough that it's annoying.

Not trying to defend Sony here but How often do hard drives fail and you lose said save data? Need that certain save because you know you're going to be logging onto another ps4? Then make sure that one is uploaded to the cloud.

They do need to do something about the save file size though.

Are you sure? I remember reading that when the PS4 launched. Obviously if you have PS+ it stays in the cloud if you have room but I could have sworn I was told that if you delete the app then the save goes too like with the Vita.

Ahh so you are just spreading misinformation based on hearsay. No its not like that on PS4.

How about some decent speed?

i got 200 mbit here.

that is about 80 gig in 1 hour
easy with steam blizzard and origin

look at this shit ?

I've been fortunate cause since the ps4 launched I've been downloading super fast but how is this still an issue for some? Kind of embarrassing for a major platform

The 10MB minimum is absurd. Skullgirls is the only game I've seen to go under it (and 3MB still seems high for SG unless it has replays or something)

I didn't even know any could be under the minimum, nice to see someone not screw us over on size. Considering most games shouldn't be saving really any more data than they used to going back to the PS1 days I don't know why they need that much space.

It's annoying on the PS4 to fill up, because everytime you boot up your system you're greeted with a barrage of messages.

DING! Failed to upload Save for Game 1
DING! Failed to upload Save for Game 2
DING! Failed to upload Save for Game 3
DING! Discover new power options!!!!

Still surprised they haven't fixed that yet, it has been like 3 "stability" updates and it's still there. There has to be another big update coming right? otherwise I can't imagine why they wouldn't have fixed it yet.

Oh damn, Yoshida, that smack talk.

Just deleted a game and re-downloaded it and I could continue my campaign from where I was before.

lol NBA2K14 comes to mind. I think it had like 500MB saves at one point.

Actual 10-30MB saves aren't the issue here since you could play a generation of games before filling up 1GB. It is the bullshit that gets uploaded as a "cloud save". The free version of singstar was taking up half my cloud storage for offline databases and pictures. What good is offline databases on cloud storage and I have never taken a picture in this game either. 500MB for absolutely nothing. If the actual 10-30MB were all that went up there it would be kinda sufficient. They should expand it just to make people happy.

Seven updates, I think. IIRC the problem started with the 2.50 update, we're at 2.57 and it still happens.

dude you tell me.
It seems that sony cuts certain area's on the planet this is in NO way normal.
But pisses me off beyond believe because I KNOW it is not on my end...

netherlands btw..

Driveclub and Rocket League alone take half of that 1GB space. The latter thanks to being forced (afaik) to preallocate replay save data space; it doesn't matter I have no replays saved, it's still a 100MB+ save.

The system needs a whole lot more than just extra space.

That's only really true if you can remove the game from trying to upload and specify ones you want to. Is there a way to disable save cloud uploading for an individual game, like you could on PS3? I haven't found it yet, and that's yet another backwards step in functionality if so.

At my limit on PS4, Driveclub is taking up 325MB, Rocket League is ~100MB and Playroom is 90MB. That's 3 games taking up half of my storage, 2 that I actively play... (I'll deal with you later playroom)

1GB was fine on PS3 and more than enough on Vita, but by the end of the generation I can see it taking up at least 10GB on PS4 if I get roughly the same amount of games as I did on PS3 etc.

I have the exact same problem man. Bought Elder Scrolls Online and it had a 15gb day 1 patch it took me 37 hours to download it and the same goes for any game that large, Wolfenstein took 2 days.

Download something that big on steam it takes 2-3 hours max same with any other service.

Yeah, I don't have any idea how Rocket League and Apotheon's save files are over 100mb.

No plans? Really? So we're waiting another year?
No plans could also mean no improvement forever.

Or that they have plans but don't want to announce them yet. It's basically "no comment."
Yeah and everything in between. :-P

Apotheon creates as many saves as a compulsive quicksaver in Max Payne 1 on the hardest difficulty.

Yeah, it sucks. I had to turn off cloud save notifications because I was sick of seeing them every time I turned my PS4 on.

I'd love some more cloud space, I've had to delete some saves from it not too long ago :'(

Not sure why some people are claiming PS4 deletes your save files when you delete your game, they are separate in the delete options.

lol

The upload capacity limit is ridiculous. but I do like the current option of manual control over your saves that the PS4 has. It comes in handy being able to save exactly the version of the save you want. Sometimes I don't want a save auto-synced. For example, if you turn auto-upload off, if you makes an irreversible choice in a game that gets saved, it won't automatically overwrite your online save when uploaded.

They need to keep the choice to keep it manual or auto on a per-game basis, just increase the capacity.

I have no idea how you guys filled 1gb with save files... I mean, I have a ps3, ps4 and vita hundreds of games, and I'm still like, halfway. :(

same man!
what a joke. That eso patch took me 11 hours and today they launched a new one..i went ape shit xD

Yeah 1gb is a fucking joke in this day and age for cloud saving..i seen many times error can't upload from Arkham Knight for example.

No it doesn't--it leaves the save on the HDD, but puts it in a folder titled "other" until the game its tied to installed again.
