The comment from the person taking issue with it seems reasonable to me. He or she points out that they have no issue with Widowmaker but feel that this pose doesn't suit Tracer's character. That makes sense to me.

The way GGers have tried to twist "ethical" into a negative term just drives me fucking crazy.
Anyway. It didn't personally offend me but I'm okay with the change, it makes sense for them to want to be as inclusive as possible. The female characters in Overwatch (both the designs and the way they're treated by the camera) have definitely been far more sexualized than the male characters.

Nothing about that pose is particularly sexual to me. Maybe the outfit, but that's true regardless of her pose. She's just standing backwards. That said, it also doesn't seem to be sparking much about her character especially given her outfit (haven't looked too much into the game yet)
The devs wanted it there. That's the irony of it.
Poses outside of the default are unlocked from chests. Players have to willingly select other poses etc. from the default. If you personally feel a pose does not fit your viewpoint of a characters persona then do not select that pose use one of the dozens of others.
No one is forced to pick any particular pose besides the default. Really seems to be a case of making a big deal out of nothing and Blizzard now gets a PR win.

So to clarify, another character has this same sexy pose, but that's part of her character so it's okay. But this was uncharacteristic of Tracer, so they removed it

Not worth the outrage. If it doesn't fit the character then the pose just seems corny. You can see her bum all the time anyway and others still have "sexy" poses so whatever.
Still, D.VA bum pose when.
I'm fine with the removal, but they kinda lose the ethics argument if this is still in anyway.
And then this is the weird case where 'ethical' reasons are cited, yet the big reason why this shows up is due to sexualizing so many of the female characters in the first place.

It bugs me that someone can post "this doesn't fit with my interpretation of the character so it shouldn't exist in a game," and despite a clear majority of the comments disagreeing with that person, the dev removes the option from the game. If it's a selectable option, the more sensible response is "cool, it's not required, so don't use it if you don't want."

They can do what they want but making changes for the sake of "not offending anyone" is an impossible feat in this day in age. Remove it to be more in line with the Tracer's personality? K. The offended people will just move on to bitching about Widow then. Then move on to something else.

People who are in the match with you still have to see it if you selected it. It's still not a big deal though. It annoys me that they're removing it, but it's not going to prevent me from getting the game.

Read the complaint that the change seems to be based on. The poster notes that there's nothing wrong with Widowmaker's poses because she's defined by her sexuality. Tracer isn't supposed to be sexualized. She's a spunky character, and that's what the poster took issue with.

The developers put something in the game. They received feedback which gave them second thoughts. After this re-evaluation they decided, yes, we as the creators of the character agree that maybe this isn't the most appropriate direction to take them.
This is standard part of the creative process.
No, ethics was not the reason. The OverwatchGG twitter which cited "ethics" is fan-run. The actual forum post by the game director says nothing about ethics.
I know nothing about the twitter in question but I wonder what the "GG" stands for..

It reminds me of the R Mika butt slap removal: a very small change that is very, very silly in context with the rest of the character. It's nowhere nearly as silly as the Mika changes, but most of the official Tracer art I've seen (including the Origins Edition cover) is very much butt focused.
The victory pose is shown to everyone in the match when it ends. So maybe you can't select it, but another player could.
Taking them at face value, that's EXACTLY the impression I had, which is so weird, because that person's idea of what's characteristic/uncharacteristic of Tracer is so different than what I think is characteristic/uncharacteristic of her.

I guess they can do what they want but it's not necessarily offensive either. Take it or leave it for me. I thought that Mika's DE emphasized butt slap was a worse change because it fit her character and was kind of funny. Also weird because you see her butt all the time anyway. Not sure why that moment was too far.
