Trails in the Sky the 3rd |OT| Time's the Charm

Not sure if this is just a 4K issue but on the left side of the status screen where character info should be it's black rectangle things. If I switch it down to 1080p it's perfectly fine.

This should be fixed in the latest Steam builds?
The fix hasn't reached GOG or Humble yet, but I'm packing up updates for them tonight.

hmm weird. I have the Steam copy and I'm pretty sure it's the most recent build since it's not prompting me to update it. Not too much of a deal breaker really. I don't mind going down to 1080 for this game.

Do try restarting Steam.
It is possible that it's not as fixed as I thought, though.
It was hard to get any confirmation from anyone...

This is what I was describing earlier, I'm on 4k. Didn't think to try switching back to 1080p to see if it made a difference.

Edit: I'm also on Steam
Edit 2: Definitely still getting black rectangles on 4k
Edit the 3rd: tested on 1080p and the characters are there, restarted steam and switched back to 4k and we're back to black rectangles.

Is it worth leveling up everyone equally, or am I better off just using who I like? Just got Josette and she's not really that good, aside from her support.

Chapter 3's done! The intro to Chapter 4, building off the hints dropped right before, is chilling, and bizarre when
Joshua
steps into the conversation (at least because of the tone of his questions and answers to Kevin).

Chapter 3 gives you an opportunity to equalize everyone's levels, so don't worry until after. It's no surprise she's still the joke character (albeit useful if you don't have Kloe for debuff yet and/or want to steal specific drops).

All she ever good for was comforting Joshua every night when he was hanging out with the Sky Pirates. :p

Kidding aside, I normally try to level up everyone in Kiseki games. I love grinding though, so ymmv.

I imagine 3rd is the same as the rest of Kiseki games. It doesn't matter all that much if you leave someone behind in levels even if the game forces characters on you sometimes. Whatever underleveled characters you have will level up reaaaally quickly if the game sticks them in your party and they are behind 5-8+ lvls. At that point they'll get levels after, like, every battle (at first) and catch up relatively quickly.

Man, back when tits1 came out on the PSP, I thought we'd never get here.

Won't have time to play this for months (or possibly all year), but bought it in thanks for xseed carrying out mission impossible.

I'm reading that they're recycling dungeons from FC and SC. That's disappointing. I've been playing SC and the constant reuse of areas has started to get really old, even though I love the characters and most of the story.

I'm only on Chapter 2 so far, but the recycled
Grancel
feels pretty different despite being an old place. There's different enemies, doors to find, chests in different locations,
the fact that it used to be a town and not a dungeon
, etc. It feels similar, but not the same. That's just my opinion, though, of course.

The vast majority of them are new.

To anyone that already played it any interesting rewards to unlock in 3rd outside of anything related to the doors?

I'm okay with that, if they're really spicing up the old locations. And putting in new locations too, of course.

I think you'll be satisfied. You have to understand that 3rd handles all of this very differently than FC or SC due to its unique structure, as well.

Albert Russell is my spirit animal. He just called Erika on both the fact she abandoned her daughter to go off researching, and the fact she has sugary milk rather than coffee.

Also, did Dan take his wife's surname?? Seems far too progressive for Japan.

Who wouldn't?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it'd be like marrying Bill Gates or someone equally super important.

Assume Bill Gates is a woman. Bella Gates, whatever. You marry her. You are Dan Smith. You can become Dan Gates. Gates. It's the equivalent of getting easy brand name recognition from one of the top selling brands there are.

Easy choice to make IMO.

If my mediocre Japanese is correct, he's saying "Do it, finish them off" or something similar

I guess the idea of a husband being adopted into a wife's family of higher prestige isn't unheard of in Japan. Still seems unusual enough that somebody in the game would comment on it.

Still not liking Ericka but she did seem to soften a bit at the end of that first moon door so maybe she'll learn to stop being a dick. She was still a dick in the prologue though and presumably that took place after the moon door events

Was it mentioned why Tita doesn't remember these events by the way? I was very tired when I got her and didn't pay much attention. I know she remembered the last moment before she woke up talking to Kevin though.

It wasn't, as far as I can tell. Dumb theorising from that point:
which makes me wonder if anyone other than Kevin and maybe Ries is actually there and not just some sort of construct out of his memories (the game might involve the mirage sept-terrion maybe?). On the other hand, that doesn't explain why she does remember the last thing she did. Maybe it's literally just a handwaved 'this is for the player's reward, don't think about it too hard'.

This game is important as hell to the overall series. I'm LOVING these little vignettes from the Moon/Star doors. I look forward to them in every dungeon.

Is it possible to miss any sealing stones? I'm assuming no, right? I just got
Kloe
.

the problem hasn't fixed yet, I'm using 4K TV and the "card info" still blank

my current build is 1801176

hope you could fix it, thank you

I've gone through a few doors so far, and they've all been so good. I'm really enjoying that mechanic. It's a great way to deliver a lot of different story vignettes while fitting in with the overall flow of the game.

The dungeon exploration is really great as well. Chapter 2 was awesome, seeing
Grancel all deserted and looking eerie, and seeing the sealed land briefly at the end of the Chapter gave me an awesome flashback to playing the first game back in 2011. Having both Julia and Joshua in my party for that felt like the "right' choice with the dialogue, too.

I'm still early on, but I have a feeling that this will be one of my favorites in the series if it can keep up this level of quality.

Star Doors (short stories)
First one took 20 minutes at 1.4 speed. I suppose that is 'short' for Trails :p

Ries is awesome
Code:

Anyway, Prolog/Chapter 1 impressions:

Prolog:
- Kevin is a badass
- When I went into the casino room on the airship I though "Oh no,
I'm going to spend 10 hours playing poker before I even begin playing, won't I?" (Un?)fortunately Falcom was wise enough to prevent that.
- that Cornelia thruthbomb
- Tita's mum is hilarious
- I'm already liking Ries a lot

Chapter 1
- Tita's sidestory was so good, but why did it have to end at when it got really interesting??
- lol, good luck Agate
- that Chapter boss fight :O Suddenly lore out of nowhere, and I was saying 'What the hell. What the hell.' the entire time. Awesome.
- quite enjoying this structure, nice change of pace compared to FC and SC

About the first Moon Door and your question :
It has a second part once you get another character.

Post chapter 2... star? door spoilers. I forget which specifically.
I was much happier than I expected when Estelle finally showed up, albeit in a memory fragment.
Then everyone else showed up to have a nice time and I was even happier. I also loved the ending of the door. Help, I love this cast too much.

Oh, I know, it wasn't really a question. I was just amused that my reaction after an over 30 minute long cutscene was: why is this already over??

Heh, I just did another Star Door after that (#3) that's even longer. "Short" for Trails is still pretty long.

And Star Door 3 was just really sweet.
Lovely seeing all of those characters again, hearing some great music (I definitely had a rush of glee when Let's Be Lively kicked in at the start of the party) and getting followups on so many different characters post SC. And that fireworks scene at the end was just beautiful.

I need to take the time to look into cheat engine before firing up the game tonight. Speeding up the game will simultaneously make it more enjoyable and cut down the total playtime significantly to boot.

Just did Star Door 2, and the lore being dropped there was awesome.

It gives some really intriguing information, and makes me even more excited for Cold Steel III since it should be following up on this stuff.
I really want to know more about North Ambria and the Salt Pale, and it looks like CSIII is finally going to do that. There's a lot of intriguing stuff in the background there.

The lack of traffic in this thread is killing me.

I just dumped 10 hours in the game...
That explains my lack of posting.

On CH.4 right now,
Ries gettin fed up with Kevin's BS was a good way to start the chapter and the flashbacks in each chapter's intro is working well with the lord's/knights double speak to Kevin that happens after a big boss fight. The story tells you so much with so little and its a nice build up. Also, Joshua did his homework and quickly pickes up on Kevin's true role in SC, tho I'm not too shocked he caught on quick

Been playing through slowly, I discovered a bunch of doors but don't have the requirements to unlock them yet. And yeah, I play more than I post.

I think they buffed Tita, her base STR is higher and her SPD now matches the rest of the cast. Also they nerfed healing Arts, it used to be that they were so fast that it made healing crafts kind of redundant (in fact they were so fast you could use them to fast offset enemy turns) but that's not the case anymore.

Is there a way to make cheat engine auto connect with this game every time it loads instead of having to manually connect them?

Yes, there's somewhere in settings where you can copy and paste the executable name and it will discover it and apply hotkeys on startup.

I remember typing out his callouts in English somewhere in a "monster" file but maybe it was a dummy file... Not uncommon with Falcom's stuff to have. I'll do a search and have that mishap patched later today with Sara's help.

I dunno personally I kinda like how I can actually read every post haha

as for me this is my 6th post which is already about as much as I typically post in a thread for a game i'm playing

at the start of chapter 4 now and still can't quite decide how I feel about the overall structure of the game(I mean i'm enjoying it but still unsure whether i'll end up liking it more or less than I did SC when it's all said and done)
