I'm not sure I like how they handled Lorena's return, if only because of what it means for Eric's future in the show. He and Lafayatte are my two favorite characters, and it's kind of disappointing to see that Eric, who was always cunning but never underhanded, has been set up as something of a backstabber and maybe even an antagonist for Bill, as opposed to Bill having willingly dumped Sookie for Lorena (not to mention being sent by the Queen to seduce Sookie to begin with).
So I'm guessing Eric won't eventually become Sookie's main (if shaky) vampire interest in the series, and she won't come to utterly hate Bill? Shame. At least we've gotten Lafayatte and Jessica out of the alterations.
More book stuff:
I actually do get the feeling that they're keeping the whole "Queen sent him" angle just because of little things that have come up so far. In season one there's that moment when Bill is trying to explain to Eric that Sookie is very "valuable" and Eric is like, it seems a lot like you're making demands and you wouldn't do that unless there's something you're not telling me and gives him this look like he knows something is going on behind his back and isn't pleased at all. Then this season when Sookie confronts Bill about her uncle and she asks if there are any more secrets he's keeping from her, there's this long hesitation on Bill's part before he says no.
But I still agree actually that I don't like how they make Bill seem captive from the beginning. In the book the month or so he spends with Lorena is way more layered than that and setting it up so that Bill is all pure and being held against his will because of Eric's evil scheming really removes any complexity or even a lot of intrigue. Also makes Lorena a lot less interesting as opposition, I think. I prefer in the book when he comes willingly and she still wants to punish him just for daring to piss her off in the first place.
