Its infinite though.
Never forget.
The only thing I see in here is a possible delay of the launch, not really less performance. Am I wrong?
Ever since i saw this picture my jaw dropped to the floor:
That is a fuckin' huge APU. Doing some quick and dirty pixel counting, I'm getting something like 420mm^2*, which would make it larger than the HD7970 and the 680 GTX easily. Only the 780/Titans are bigger. Pretty much anyone could have told them that this thing is going to be a disaster in yields.
* I'm basing it off of this. Assuming the whole machine is 500 pixels by 365, and the die itself is 37 by 23, you'll get 420 mm^2. All very rough numbers, but in the same ball park as reality.
Since I'm in the OP, I might as well say that I completely stand by what I said and feel the person that informed me of this is as reliable as it possibly gets on the Xbox One. I feel a source doesn't get more accurate than this.
If it turns out wrong, feel free to perma ban me. Although, if I'm wrong, which I really, really doubt, I throw myself on the mercy of the court.
Who am I kidding? Gaf? Mercy? Still, I take full responsibility for what I said, and I absolutely stand by it.
Oh, I am, which is why I went so far as to throw myself to the wolves. I'm a good sport about these things. If what I was told is inaccurate, I'll accept the consequences. Simple as that.
I'm not skeptical about whether or not that site is right or not. I feel pretty strongly that they are wrong. I'm skeptical about some random site just, out of nowhere, conveniently reporting this right around the same time that it's being mentioned in a GAF thread. I mean, that doesn't make anybody else suspicious as to whether that site really heard something, or whether they're just parroting what they saw on GAF, as other sites have been known to do sometimes inaccurately?
Not really, because that metric is largely dependent on seeing the Xbox One GPU more like a part where 600GFLOPs represents 50% of GPU's overall power, and so any gap of equal amount must also represent a 50% advantage over this GPU. But when you do that, you aren't really seeing the Xbox One GPU as the 1.2TFLOPS GPU that it actually is. When you start with the ps4's TFLOP count as your base, you actually calculate the xbox one GPU as a full 1.2 TFLOP part, unbiased by the fact that 600GFLOPS represents 50% of 1.2 TFLOPS, and that's how you arrive at the 33% advantage for the PS4 GPU.
Not buying this at all.
People have worked it out using the size of the ram chips near the die. Its ~400mm iirc.

The last couple of months you've been defending the Xbone at every instance. You even went as far as fighting mathematics by stating the 50% higher flops percentage was misleading and should only be 33%.

And then, when we thought you finally agreed, you fought maths again in this thread a month later ...

I'm not trying to be a jerk here but if you don't have an actual source and just use the 'I bet my account on it' to get some extra weight in the discussion, this is the time to be honest about it. You seem to be the only contradicting third hand source.
You don't literally have to defend the console to your grave.
I must've missed that then.
My question is where is the 5 billion transistor count coming from?
This is not about opinions or being too positive or negative.Say whatever you want, I have every right to my opinion. Am I too positive about the Xbox One for your liking? Sorry, next time I'll be sure to clear all my thoughts with you first.
I don't care if you don't believe me. Surprise! I understand that you don't like any positive in your xbox one negative news, but it is what it is lol.

Stating a rumour is false because you CLAIM to have source which you 'feel' doesn't get more accurate than this is not an opinion. It's either the truth or a damn lie. Which one is it?
Microsoft. They announced it at their event. No other figure other than 5bn transistors.
Closer to 350mm2.

Well that's setting the bar pretty high..Less problems than the 360 they said.

SRAM. 6 transistors per bit. So:I know that but I was wondering what they were adding together to get 5 bn. A HD 7770 and a jaguar don't make 5 billion.
They're calling you out on not sourcing your claims, as your credibility isn't verified like some other posters who leak info (I would assume).
I'm not buying this console BECAUSE OF A RUMOR! It's just what gaf does *sigh*
That would be incredible if true.
So would that hypothesis suggest that when the pool was designed, it was supposed to be fabbed using a smaller process than they are currently utilizing? And that previously-planned on process wasn't yielding an acceptable percentage, so they had to go with a larger process that is now out-of-spec? I'm trying to wrap my head around how this misadventure would come to pass under this explanation.
Why would anyone even try to propagate the dual apu rumour if eventually it ends up being proven to be false?Did he also suggest dual APU's. I can't remember but a lot people where. If anyone suggested those there credibility is 0 imo.
If the difference in power does exist, studios like ND, SPP and GG will definitely showcase it
Trolls like you shouldn't have the ability to post.
anyways, if this rumour turns out to be true I might consighter become a PC gamer only.

My prediction:MS will still win. Gaming journalist from sites like giant bomb, ign, gamespot etc will get xbone and hype it. Hype it's UI or whatever can take attention from these issues.
While Ps4 will be presented as powerful but dull so that is why they choose xbonita.
Transistor density varies for example L1/L2 caches versus plain logic. You cant use the transistor density between two completely different ASICs.Unlikely. MS already admit it is 5 billion transistors. Compared to the HD7970, which is ~4.3 bn transistors and actually 352 mm^2, you're unavoidably looking at 352 * 5/4.3 ~= 409 mm^2. 400+ mm^2 is pretty much the unescapable conclusion here.
Sorry. Don't believe in the clock downgrade. MS have already published the clock speeds so this would look like a massive engineering failure on their part.
Nobody else on this site outs who their sources are. And clearly I'm in no position to say who their sources are, or how they come by that information, but I've heard from a very reliable individual whom I trust completely, and that individual has said both that this is not true, and that they have heard no such thing. I place extra weight on the person saying it, more so than what I might hear from any site, or even from typically reliable posters on this forum, because it is my firm belief that if this person doesn't know what's going on, then shit has truly hit the fan.
People can take that for what it's worth. If a mod deems it necessary to ask me why I'm so sure, I'm more than happy to tell them why, on the grounds that it remains confidential, of course.
I'm actually the relatively sane person that was telling people on this forum all along that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Xbox One specs as reported by vgleaks, and that it was quite capable of delivering incredible games and not nearly as underpowered as people believe. I added that it didn't matter how much stronger or weaker it was compared to the PS4, because that isn't important. What's more important is Microsoft giving developers enough power to create incredible games, and I feel they have done that.
Sorry. Don't believe in the clock downgrade. MS have already published the clock speeds so this would look like a massive engineering failure on their part.

I'll quote myself to this thread:
Edit: also, a VHS case all perforated which consist in half chipset half A HUGE FAN and no internal power source overheating? No fucking way. The Xbone must be cooler than a Wayfarers.
Have they?
Where?
