Ubisoft hate?

I really don't have any hatred towards Ubisoft, but I haven't been a staunch follower of theirs.

I was really invested in Assassin's Creed, but I'm of the minority that really enjoyed the overarching storyline. After AC3, it was pretty clear that they weren't focusing on advancing that plot, so my interest slowly faded away. That being said, I enjoyed Unity far more than Black Flag.

I wasn't too big into the Far Cry series, but I enjoyed Blood Dragon and Primal.

I didn't really deep dive into the first game, but I really liked Watch Dogs 2. I'd probably be finishing up the side quests and whatnot if I didn't have such a giant backlog.

Their games aren't day one purchases from me, but I don't boycott them. I listen to what others say and make my decision accordingly.

"Women are too hard to animate" and they managed to fuck up Tetris??? Also Asscreed Unity was jank. I really liked Child of Light though.

Funny that I just saw this thread.

Was trying to accept a GR:W beta invite and their account system is just so shit. As are their websites.

Site header shows I'm logged in, I have cookies saying I'm logged in... But I get prompted to login? And then when I login, I don't see that I'm logged in from the header anymore.

Like, amateurish web design.

R6 Siege is the only Ubi thing I like.

They made/published some of my favorite games in the past. I'll mention King Kong and Call of Juarez Gunslinger. I think most of their modern games are not very good though. I also hate how they try to force Uplay on PC gamers.

At this point I ignore games published by Ubi. A friend mentioned For Honor and my first reaction was: Oh, that's a Ubisoft game, that's most likely gonna suck in some way.

I've enjoyed most of the Creed games & put a decent number of hours into The Division so while I don't look to them for giant innovation in play, their formula is one that I reliably play through to finish in games, something that's pretty rare for me these days.

I definitely think the hate is overblown. If the open world formula doesn't connect with you I can understand, but they are very skilled game developers. They also do a lot in terms of representation in gaming. Assassin's Creed alone has a wide variety of different races and religions represented. In Watch Dogs 2 there is a transgendered character as well. They certainly go out of there way to include people who you often don't see in video games.

Ubisoft used to be such a good developer until I'd say Assassin's Creed 3 came out. Since then almost every game feels like it's been forced to be an open world that's just the same variation of tedious and vapid time sinks and it all just feels so... eeeeeh. [Read all Far Cry games since 3].

They have a bad habit of showing bullshots of games and self contained "demos" for trailers with that dumb actor banter, but the games never turn out to be what they advertised. I was so excited for what The Division could have been, but they made a mediocre looter/shooter with bullet sponge enemies (I guess they've changed that now, a year later). Watch_Dogs looked like it could have been an amazing game if they'd actually made what they advertised at that E3 all those years ago. But they didn't. It's modern day Assassin's Creed with a point and click "hacking" gimmick. So many missed opportunities.

They also seem to have their heads in their asses when it comes to multiplayer and how to implement an anti-cheat that works (see The Division and Rainbow Six:Siege [for 6 months after launch]).

Oh, also the change in gameplay for Splinter Cell after Chaos Theory and Michael Ironside not coming back as the voice of Sam Fisher rubbed me the wrong way.

I honestly don't mind their open world formula. It gives each part of the huge map purpose since you are typically unlocking them piece by piece. WD2 is a bit different though and feels closer to GTA in structure

I don't really hate them but that's just too many open world games. I got in the beta for Ghost Recon Wildlands but I just couldn't see myself playing it because of how formulaic it is compared to their other open world games. They really need to roll on some new concepts before they get closer and closer to being bought out...

I love Ubisoft. The best 3rd party publisher, IMO. I buy most of their games.

I still hope they shake up their formula and gameplay loop though.

They can come up with some pretty great settings for games but everything else they've done in recent years has been bland and forgettable. Their games don't really deserve the hate but their business practices definitely do.

I played it and thought it was awful. What else is there to explain? It's not as if I'm the only person who feels this way.

calling it "garbage" it obvious hyperbole, especially since it reviewed pretty well. it was a quality game that you happen to dislike.

Great for a Ubisoft game does not equal great, but anyway:

- The story is woeful
- Troy Baker's VA is bad
- The protagonist is not likeable, nor are any of the supporting characters
- Soundtrack was forgettable (I HAVE LITERALLY FORGOTTEN IT)
- Gameplay was copypaste Ubisoft dogshit
- Graphically, it wasn't amazing. Standard PS4 fare if we're being honest

I didn't find it fun. At all. That's why I think it's garbage. Always will.

below avg for a high budget ps4 title.

Their bigger games are very design by committee and I find them boring. Their smaller games can be good though.

Also that one guy who posts on here like the biggest fanboy ever really puts me off them even though I know that's a bit silly.

When did they say that women were too hard to animate?

Ubisoft is the publisher with the most diverse representation of minority in this industry.

And no Unity wasn't jank, the gameplay showed depth and was extremely precise.

That's what I will never get with the complainers, theyll be the first to say that Ubisoft games are for casual and doesn't feature depth but when they do they're "janky" now.

That's normal, people usually don't like viewing facts against their narrative.

I wouldn't say I hate them either. I just... don't like them or a majority of their games.

I appreciate the smaller stuff they do like the mentioned Child of LIght, Grow Up, and while not "smaller" the South Park game was great and looking forward to the next. I heard great things, like little things you notice, great things about Werewolves WIthin, and I'm pretty stoked for the Star Trek VR game, too.

I refuse to play any of their games on PC still because of uPlay. I'm not a "no steam, no buy" kinda guy. In fact, I kinda dislike it when people say that. I know it works fine for people now, but I actually did try reinstalling it a couple months ago when I got my 1080 and it's still just an unsatisfying experience that I don't want to deal with. I'd rather use Origin or even the Windows 10 store (Gog not named, because of course...).

I'd legit be surprised if I had ever shitted on Ubi on these boards for no good reason or to try and be funny or something.

edit: Oh, I'd say I loved Assassins' Creed IV, although only when I avoided the game from actually progressing. I had to avoid areas to not take me out of the pirate sections and put me in the damn present day stuff. I've thought the whole animus thing with the Assassins' Creed was completely stupid literally from the moment I learned that's what the "secret" was to the first game before it came out.

I love how this is considered a downside. And it's the only "valid" complaint.

You probably loved that gameplay at some point. But instead of saying "meh, i merely got burnt out on it" you decided to exaggerate because you can't call something trash if you merely got burnt out.

Out of curiosity... what are real "great" games in your opinion?

I like Ubisofts games, and their games consistently receive good critical and commercial receptions. People like to hate.

I think they have a wide array of incredibly creative studios and while there games do have similarities (largely the result of internal user experience testing and whatnot), many of these features are neat qol additions that people now take for granted.

One thing I will say though, is that their focus on keeping their games always online is incredibly irritating. I avoid the online only games, and that's a shame because it's clear I'm likely to miss out on some decent titles, like Steep, For Honour and The Crew. I've passed up on these 3 due to that fact. I want to be able to collect and play my titles endlessly. I'd happy invest countless hours into an open world driving RPG, if it wasn't for the fact that all of that work will be taken away in the future due to the games need to access the servers every time I log in. I can still load out my PS2 saves on NFS or Midnight Club games, and view all of my car collections, yet we won't be able to do that with The Crew, and that's unappealing.

Still, although there are a few games I skipped out on due to the online-only policy, there are a few that I've loved in recent years

Watch Dogs 2
Rayman Origins
Rayman Legends
Rainbow Six Siege
Trackmania Turbo
Trials
Assassins Creed Black Flag
Ghost Recon Future Soldier
Lumines Electronic Symphony
Drive San Fransico

They just need to do away with their always online policy and I'm sure I'd enjoy more of their games. I don't generally like the Far Cry or Assassin's Creed games though, and I get that's a bit part of their portpholio, yet I was happy with Watch Dog's 2's presentation and especially it's lack of a tower structure. My problem with open world RPGs is that I really like having the freedom to just focus on the main story without needing to do all of the extras, yet be able to delve into those extras when I fancy. The issue with the tower system is that you can't do that, you have to 'unlock' the missions by completing the tower missions, and for someone that doesn't necessarily want to complete all of the side content, it's tedious to have to unlock all of it.

Dont hate them, but they havent put put something that looks appealing to me since child of light. However im really interested in buying steep because I enjoyed the beta a ton

I don't dislike Ubisoft or EA... hate Activision though. That's a company that milks and dehydrates franchises and openly admits that's all they want.

i got no time to hate. they just make bad games. their AAA+ efforts are just collecting games with shit gameplay. it's a shame because i generelly like their themes, environment graphics etc. their bad taste spread to their fan base like a virus. i remember when they turned that drinking game in watch dogs into a collectible because their fanbase couldn't sit down and pay attention for once. it wasn't a freebie like everything else in their games, so they had to tone it down and make it braindead. ubi in a nutshell.

they have some good efforts like rayman.

Child of light and even more Soldats Inconnus are some of the best games i've played. Both published by ubisoft. So i love Ubisoft. And no never forget the only true Unreal, the one they published in the 80's by Ordilogic... That game marked me so deep, could never forget it. But youngsters below 40 i think don't understand the true roots of Ubisoft. I'm glad they are here.

There's always something off or weird with their PC ports, and their console versions are solid but mostly 30 fps.

Welcome to the internet. Someone will always hate something, it's nothing new. And not exclusive to Ubisoft.

I wish they would make more small niche titles like Child of Light and Valiant Hearts, and less generic open world rehashes in different environments.

However, I am not aware of anything interesting to me in their pipeline anymore...there isn't even a 2D Rayman game in the works from the looks of it...

I don't hate Ubisoft. I just think they make the most boring, cookie cutter games. I bought their games like Child Of Light and Valiant Hearts. Rayman Legends seems to be fantastic as well although I don't like platformers. Their AAA games are just uninspired and way too formulaic to me. Black Flag was their last really good AAA game in my eyes.

Far Cry and Splinter Cell are some of my favourite western games, AC not as a whole since I disliked the pirates/ships mechanics so I didn't like those 3 games or so.

There's also the R6 Vegas games which were my favourtite FPS during the PS3.

No, I don't hate Ubisoft, together with Bethesda, they are my favourite western game companies.

Or... they genuinely hate that kind of gameplay?

I cannot stand the gameplay in any single AAA open-world Ubisoft game. It's insufferably dull. I've hated it since AssCreed 1 and nothing has made me change my mind since.

Shame on what happened to them, since I genuinely enjoyed many of their games in the PS2/Gamecube era. PoP Sands of Time, the original Splinter Cell, and Beyond Good and Evil, were legit solid games.

I played A LOT of AC: Brotherhood multiplayer. That was the one with the barber, harlequin, etc? Man that was fun. I think that was the last Ubi game I really enjoyed.

I don't hate them, their franchises have so much potential but the end result lately has been underwhelming, I believe their products need longer development times. I love Splinter Cell, Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Ghost Recon. But recent additions of these have fell short in my opinion.

The gameplay isn't even the same across titles within a franchise so I don't see how you can state something like this.

Now if you were talking about mission design/mission structure I can see where you're coming from.

If Ubisoft comes out with a new 3d Rayman then they will have my love again. Oh and Splinter Cell with Ironside as Sam Fisher. These are my terms Ubisoft, your move.

Ubisoft censored South Park Stick of Truth everywhere in Europe, so fuck them.

This is a region where uncensored GTA5 is a monster seller, so there really is no reason to do so.

i never really thought about it but looking back, i'm a pretty big consumer of ubi games. probably have about 20 games on U play

honestly their approach on open world is hit or miss more than it's "tired". some games it works fine, sometimes it literally does feel like your going down a virtual spreadsheet checklist

On one hand there's the bland and boring open world with towers trend, on the other hand they seem very focused on bringing AAA hardcore multiplayer games that other companies wouldn't dare to produce...I have to give them credit for branching out like that.
