Ubisoft hate?

How can you hate publisher that constantly create new IP and making AAA melee combat game?
What other western big publisher do that.

Disclaimer, never play any Ubisoft open world game.

A lot of people fail to process and how all of Ubisofts games (even different games within a franchise) are being made by different studios with different levels of talents, different strengths and importantly, different management.

When people make a sweeping statement like "all Ubisoft games", it just shows how little they actually know about the company. It's just easier to be hyperbolic.

I'm not saying they're perfect by any means but a lot of their studios don't deserve the hate.

Every time I hear Ubi Soft I think about the literal diarrhea of "Imagine" and "animal ending in Z" titles they released some years ago. Then crapping AC titles at nearly the same speed. Then Uplay.

Over the time I have hated many companies, then forgotten why and embraced them. Not with Ubi. Even though I love the Ubi Art games, they have a track record of shit stains that not even time can wash for me.

I get that Uplay has annoyed PC games but for me Ubisoft is the best AAA company, they always push platforms on a technical level and have a wide variety of games.
Even today Unity or Division maxed on PC looks incredible and for me they both run very well. Hopefully Wildlands will get a performance boost because with all the day/night and weather cycle its clearly in need of refinement.

I always liked Ubisoft and I like Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed a lot but I'm tired of their formula, thanks god they are changing that for the next Assassin's Creed. They should be applauded for they efforts with small scale games and their constant pursue of new IP though.

They pump out some good games, and create new IP's, they also take on all genres. I dont think Uplay is that bad either.

I am sick of the millions of collection/samey little quests that litter maps in open world Ubi games but I stop playing those games for a year or so and I can handle one again.

After the backpack glitch(being locked for a month) on the division, never gonna spend money on their game ever.

Plus bugs, glitches, uninspiring gameplay, and they just have the lowest bar for qa. Regarding bullshots: They dont do bullshots. They show you gameplay, they even let you play sometime (e3 for ex), and then they release it downgraded.

With the division they show an inability to balance or fix bugs. It just looks like they fail to see a bigger picture.

It's not hate, I play some of their games. It's disrespect for a disrespectful company.

Who cares their games look good if they play abso garbage? I mean Division what a joke it turned out , Wildlands looks trash from beta too

They have a knack to make horrid pc ports requiring so much power you almost need a pc from the future with a lot of their games.

Also most of their games are overhyped and severely disappoint on release, that's my personal experience anyway.

I never hate a publisher or a studio, when I stop enjoying their games I just stop buying. With Ubisoft I'm nowhere near that point, last year I bought the collector's editions for Far Cry Primal and Watch Dogs 2 and this year I'm quite excited about the prospect of a new Assassin's Creed.

I think the Ubisoft hate is very apparent in Gaf. Personally I've had so much fun lately with Ubisoft games that I can't understand it at all. Rainbow Six Siege is the best multiplayer shooter since CS:Go, For Honor is very promising based on my time (25h) with the Beta, Division offered well over 100 hours of fun with my friends. Loved Valiant Hearts and Child of light, I really want to see more smaller projects like that from Ubisoft.

I have only played Assasins Creed 2 for maybe 6 hours, not my cup of tea. Played Far Cry 1 and 2 for maybe 4 hours together, not my cup of tea. But just because they also have games that didn't grasp me, I can't dismiss the whole diverse portfolio of games they have developed. And while I didn't personally like AC and FC, I can't deny that those are quality games too.

I feel like the hate for them is unwarranted, especially considering how many amazing titles they've released in the past six-ish years. They've created some of my all time favourite series in gaming. Some people criticize the familiarity of the franchises previously mentioned but I honestly think it's what makes them so special. All of the games feel like they exist in an interconnected gameplay "feel" universe and whether it's intentional or not I really enjoy it. Ghost Recon: Wildlands, The Division, Watch Dogs, Far Cry and Assassin's Creed all feel like different flavors of the same base game. Some might find that to be uninspired or "lazy" but it honestly gives me more motivation to stay invested in their games when I know what sort of quality to expect. Liberating areas of Manhattan zone by zone in The Division, going to Far Cry 4 to free Kyrat from Pagan Min's tyranny in the same fashion and then jumping to Watch Dogs to shut down Blume's ctOS surveillance is a gameplay loop that I absolutely adore.

Also, I've said it before in other threads but Towers are a great game mechanic that incentivize exploration and their omission in recent titles makes me sad. ;~;

I guess I'm biased but their games resonate with me in a big way. Some of my most anticipated games are sequels to The Division and Far Cry. I really do hope Ubisoft comes out on top in their battle with Vivendi.

y want to see more smaller projects like that from developed. And while I didn't person like AC and FC, I can't deny that those are quality games too.

What? if you dont like game then its not quality for you? Why would you care what others think if its good or not , if you dont like it then its bad

I'm with you op. They have a selection of smaller games that's simply amazing, while I haven't really been a fan of their bigger games, but as a whole I'd still put Ubi above most of the big publishers

Every time I hear Ubi Soft I think about the literal diarrhea of "Imagine" and "animal ending in Z" titles they released some years ago. Then crapping AC titles at nearly the same speed. Then Uplay.

how dare they make games not catered to me, i will never forgive them

Outside of framerate......I loved Unity, Syndicate and eventually it came around with the Division.

Sadly Wildlands is an absolute bore, reminds me of a 3rd person far cry where they just throw tons of shit on a map for no reason other then there to be a quantity a stuff with no quality. At least assassins creed has interesting characters for the most part. Wildlands does not....it has terrible characters and absolute cringe worthy dialogue. Somehow being worse than the division.

I have grown extremely apathetic towards Ubisoft offerings. I'm just tired of their formulaic open world design that permeates their entire AAA development. It's the same every time. Although I enjoyed both Watch_Dogs and The Division, they were still the same open world gatherfest design that Ubi's been using since 2007. The Crew is a prime example of how they can't get the hell out of their own way: They had an opportunity to make a great online centric racing game but ended up turning it into a racing version of every other Ubiworld game, complete with collect-a-thons.

So when I see news about a new Ubisoft open world game like Ghost Recon Wildlands, my reaction is pure apathy. I don't hate it, I don't love it, I just simply don't care. Maybe I'll play it later when it's cheap and I don't have anything else to play. But I can't help but feel that if I never play it, I won't be missing much that I haven't already done in several other Ubiworld games.

IMO, apathy is a worse fate than being hated.

While this is true, you've gotta admit that almost every open-world Ubisoft game is designed nearly identically regardless of which studio developed it. That leads me to believe they either have a studio-wide playbook on what they expect in their open world games OR they're so creatively bankrupt that each studio looks at the work of the other studios and just says "hey guys, let's just do that - it was successful for them".

Haven't enjoyed a big budget Ubi game since SC:Chaos Theory, Ryman was nice but opinions aside, they're bad enough to fuck up Tetris, that's all anyone need to know about their competence as a developer/publisher.

When did they say that women were too hard to animate?

Ubisoft is the publisher with the most diverse representation of minority in this industry.

And no Unity wasn't jank, the gameplay showed depth and was extremely precise.

That's what I will never get with the complainers, theyll be the first to say that Ubisoft games are for casual and doesn't feature depth but when they do they're "janky" now.

Women are too hard to animate. If you google, there are a ton of articles on the subject. Their increased diversity in Syndicate was a direct response to this controversy.

I haven't played Unity. When I said "jank", I was talking about the endless plethora of bugs and glitches, framerate issues, etc.

Eh. I see a kind of mixed reaction to most of their games. They do get a lot of criticism for the occasional bug-ridden release and habitual overselling of games ("bullshots"). And I think they deserve that criticism.

But I'll tell you what, Assassin's Creed Black Flag was fucking magical and bought many years of goodwill and forgiveness from me.

They also release some of the greatest $15-$20 smaller games around and I love them for that.

I'm more in the "don't care" boat, rather then hating on them. My latest big budget Ubisoft game was Far Cry 3, and that left such a bad taste that I haven't bothered with their releases since. I mostly look at Ubisofts AAA output as something I would play if I had absolutely nothing else to play, since they seem like filler games that follows the same formula.

And yes, I'm mostly playing on PC.

I definitely don't hate them. I'm still a fan of Far Cry, Assassin's Creed and Rayman. I will say their new output hasn't really been doing much for me though where once I thought they were really up there. The Division, Watch Dogs, Steep have all been eh for me personally and from my experience with Wildlands and For Honor so far, nothing's really exciting me. I am looking forward to the South Park sequel, even if it's dropped right off the map and them kind of cutting Obsidian out of the equation. Yea, I don't know. For me they're mostly just there these days, whereas in the past I would really pay attention to them. That could as much be me changing tastes though. Also, I reaaaally miss PoP.

What? if you dont like game then its not quality for you? Why would you care what others think if its good or not , if you dont like it then its bad

Huh? No? If I don't like a genre, let's say strategy games. It would be dumb as fuck to say that all strategy games are bad games. You understand that right? There a plenty of games I don't personally like, but I can understand the appeal for others. For example Souls games, they aren't appealing to me for few reasons. But I would look like an idiot trying to argue with someone that "No you are liking a bad game!" Get it? And the reasons why I don't personally enjoy a game can come down to just the storytelling or aesthetic, that's not enough for me to claim that a game is bad. And if I play a 20 hour game for 2 hours, that's not usually enough for me to claim that a game is bad.

Liking something doesn't equal high quality. Plenty of people enjoy B-movies for example, where the acting, directing, story, props etc are ass. But they like them for exactly those reasons, but wouldn't probably call them equal to Citizen Kane.

Edit: And what in the world you did to my quote?

The only thing I hate about them are their always online games.

For example The Division or For Honor.

I loved it when they announced the Division, it was like a 3rd person Borderlands.

Then they said, you have to be connected to the internet all the time.

Then it was dead to me. I don't have internet access all the time on my PS4.

Be quiet... we are not alone here...

The only thing listed in the OP that I was interested in/liked at all was Grow Home, and that game was seemingly made and released by accident. The Division appeals to me, but as a single-player gamer, I've been warned away. I also don't care for the way they've been handling Trials. The best thing out of Ubisoft recently has been the Red Barrels devs leaving.

I like Ubisoft for trying to do new IP all the time, they're the only big AAA studio/publisher to do it, it's really amazing and like the diversity of their cast, Watch Dog 2 is a model of it but their games are usually bland, gameplay not as precise as it should and their story are terrible, it's their biggest flaw, story writers at Ubisoft need to be fired...

....Rainbow Six?
Child of Light?
Valiant Hearts?
Fuckin' Rayman?

Rainbow Six - shooter
Child of Light - one time small game without any sign of continuation
Valiant Hearts - see above
Rayman - nice series - so when are we getting next one which isn't on smartphones ?

Even without considering that most of that list seems to be dead at Ubisoft since we haven't see any new greenlighted projects don't you think it's not that much considering size of the company ?

I know detractors are common but I've never felt they're at a point where a thread is derailed. Then again Ubisoft is not my cup of tea so my experience is limited to the few things they've put out that I do enjoy, I can't say if tat experience is true at a more general level.

Ubisoft goes back and forth between being great and making really poor decisions.

Ubisoft during the PS2/GameCube era was easily one of my favorite developers.

They released Splinter Cell, Beyond Good And Evil, and Prince Of Persia within a couple years of one another. Ridiculously good games all of them.

Far Cry 2 was a beautiful atmospheric game that could have been amazing if not for the infinitely respawning enemies.

But then you have some of the lesser Assassins Creed games, the more recent samey Far Cry releases, and disappointments like Watch_Dogs, and just Uplay in general.

I definitely prefer Ubisoft to EA or Activision, in terms of huge publishers who have a lot of influence over the industry, and I really hope Vivendi doesn't ruin what makes them good. But yeah, it can be really hit or miss.

I don't hate them, but I've no interest in their games. The name alone is enough to tell me to not even look any further. Watchdogs, AC - these just aren't games I'm interested in. No hate, just disinterest.

I love how this is considered a downside. And it's the only "valid" complaint.

You probably loved that gameplay at some point. But instead of saying "meh, i merely got burnt out on it" you decided to exaggerate because you can't call something trash if you merely got burnt out.

Out of curiosity... what are real "great" games in your opinion?
I never loved that gameplay - your assumption on my gaming taste is without foundation. Far Cry 4 was my first foray in to the series.

Here is a list of games I consider great, no idea why you'd want it as it has nothing to do with the conversation:

Quake
TLOU
Resogun
Dungeon Keeper
Champ Man 01/02
MGS 3
Resident Evil 2
GTA 3
The Legend of Zelda
Dark Souls

I can call a game anything I want, you are free to agree or disagree. My opinion is no more or less valid than yours. Have you even played Far Cry 4?

maybe thats why the animation in syndicate was absolute jank. it was too hard when they included female characters. i mean they couldnt even get half way competent lip syncing. what a joke

Purely as a PC gamer the minute I see a game has anything to do with Ubisoft kills any interest I have in that game. Ubisoft have a terrible rep on the PC for shitty barely functional products. Personally I found my PC gaming experience improved immensely the day I decided "Ubisoft nah fuck that".

I like how you moves goal posts. First you say "The day they release a non open world AAA , I'll be interested". Then someone lists a few of those very same games and you come up with made up reasons.

Also it's funny how you disregard Rainbow Six becauSe it's a shooter when it's one of the most unique shooter released in the last few years and there is absolutely nothing like it in the market i.e. the way destruction makes every single game play differently.

I love Ubisoft but mainly because when they hit it out with a couple of games, they really hit it out of the park.

Rainbow Six: Siege basically earns them a ton of goodwill from me for a looooong time. For Honor also played pretty great in the beta. Watch Dogs 2 was pretty fun as well. I enjoy the variety and quality they bring to their attempts at the genre.

I'm playing Syndicate at the moment and honestly, man, the game really is something to behold. I'm not sure I've seen a more fully realized Victorian era London in a video game. The Order maybe?

But at the same time something feels so vapid and uninspired about much of the gameplay lol. It's weird because it's not exactly "bad"...but I had to ask myself why I was trudging through it lol. I'm bored and I know it but for some reason refuse to quit playing. I think they just need to shake up the formula a bit. Not every title has to be an open world with copious amounts of collectibles.

Dude you're barking on the wrong tree. It was me who said that. Rainbow six doesn't interest me since I'm not an fps guy but an rpg guy. You can even look up my post history. I don't play fps games as at all or at the very least military shooters. I only do so when there are rpg element or even bits of it such bioshock or amnesia. The only fps game I play that is even remotely close to military is overwatch.

The fact that that quote got taken out of context to indicate that women are too hard to animate is a boon on the gaming community. Worse is how much misinformation is in that article.
-You the player only see yourself as Arno at all times, the game never at any point had customizable genders, just a very customizable male protagonists, the game was never advertised as you playing as multiple characters
-He was instead referring to the workload of transferring all of those assets onto a female avatar that the player would literally never see. With a game as big as Unity, )which evidently needed even more than the 4 years of development it had), you can see how this wouldn't make sense.

Expense was more the issue there than difficulty.

...Mission design/mission structure is gameplay

This is very true, at least in their AAA IPs.
There smaller games count as triple A due to the budget behind them. Their mission design/structure is giving the player a shit ton of agency in how to complete a simple task in large areas. They're released games that go against the mold multiple times this gen
-For Honor is like nothing else on the market
-Rainbow Six Siege completely went against sci-fi shooter trends
-Ghost Recon Wildlands as well goes against current shooter trends
-Clearly they're not afraid to have protagonists who aren't white brown haired males
-They're still one of the only triple A devs putting LBGT characters in their narratives
