Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers [Switch] Confirmed

IIRC, the artists redrew each still animation frame without consideration for the surrounding frames. That made the animation rather jarring. Also the backgrounds were not as muted as they should have been relative to the foreground.

In short, the artists (and supervisory staff) were not experienced with video game work.

Thanks for the info! Came in here having not seen the game in years and it looked a little rough.

I think it's funny now, looking back as at the time it seemed so novel to do 16-Bit graphics in HD. Yet now we live in the hit-bit era, where numerous ~16 Bit games exist. I wonder if it would be easier to find a group to redraw the game now?

Yea that is Seth's stage. SF4 first person. People attempting hurricane kicks breaking lamps and shit. Wii all over again. Lol.

I think that the whole "they weren't animators" part is overstated; in the original game, most moves didn't have stuff like smears (most of the smears happened in new moves for the old cast, and the 4 new challengers) and the ones that had was p obvious (like Honda 100 hand slap), so the actual animation in SF2 only happens by the most simple of methods, just replacing one image for another

they did fuck up some sprites; Chun in particular looks odd. not all the art is good

I feel the real problem is that the higher definition in the sprites was not accompanied by extra animation, and we were used to better game animation in those days, what with the Alpha series and in particular SF3. So we had these sprites that were higher def than SF3 but had way less frames of animation and that looked odd. Of course everybody is more used to the old sprites so the old sprites having few frames of animation doesn't look odd

the art could have been a lot better; they seem p limited to the old palettes, with lots of big, solid areas of color instead of having tiny details and small color changes. this must have been due to the need to palette swap the characters, but even then the new sprites don't have a lot of extra detail. I get the pallette swaps limited but maybe they could have picked bigger palettes, dunno. I don't think they were tied to using the same few colors the original sprites did

Did this for some reason:

Blazblue is HD and has few animation frames, though. GGXRD went one step further by making their 3D models animate with few frames like their old 2D counterparts and it's praised for it. (It does look fantastic)

Its very slow compared to Super Turbo

But I think that game was too fast for my likling. A speed level control, like SFII turbo had, would be the best

Looking at the title of the game it is called Ultra Street Fighter 2 and not Ultra Street Fighter 2 Turbo so I guess that you could spin it that way.

Still a bad decision IMO.

Good to see that I am not the only one to notice the speed. IF it is this slow the game is without the option to choose speeds then it is DOA for me.

Horrible if they add no Turbo mode. Ono loves talking about how SF2 series lit shit up on SNES so how about adding Turbo stars for people that don't have the reactions of a 90 year old.

blazblue has a lot more frames of animation than SF2 even for idling

So have they said if the game has been rebalanced? Is this Super turbo hd+ or like a newer game?

I don't care about other modes but portable super turbo would be godlike

This is looking good. Good get for switch lineup.

Two players can play with one joycon? I don't see why not. That would be brilliant.

It's based off of Super Turbo, kinda. It has a lot of new things that I noticed during the gameplay demonstration.

I wish somebody tried to use O.Sagat to confirm that Old characters are in. Ken, Hawk, and Sagat need it to be competitive.

Justin wong couldn't get O.sagat, he was there and tweeted a bit of info within the last hour or so

I don't think this is meant to be a highly competitive version of street fighter. Probably just for fun. I'm sure it might get onto some tournaments, but would be really small.

Justin Wong tried, he mentioned on his twitter, no "ST style" old characters in the demo, nothing seen so far about playing "Hyper style" old characters either.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for a new SF2. I just want speed options cause it looks slow af lol. And give me vanilla ST so I can switch between the two.
