I never liked Super Mario World's aesthetic. Too round and the color palette is unappealing. Would much rather look at SMB 1 and 3 all day.
Like, what is the goofy looking crap?
lol wow thanks for letting me know about this game.
Nidhogg 2 looks like steaming faeces.

I felt these comments from an RPS news piece identified what made the original style work, in a comedic sense:

The upcoming Code Vein game that is supposedly Dark Souls-ish has an aesthetic only the worst edgelords can appreciate:

I think it looks fine? Only the mask on the MC looks weird, reminds me too much of Tokyo Ghoul.

Maybe I don't even hate the in game graphics as much (by the way, Rare putting eyes on everything? It's ace breh) but I abhor the character design of Jet Force Gemini.
Did you post a shitty filtered emulator shot on purpose?
What about on actual hardware on a CRT?Sorry, guys. Here's something more accurate:
Still looks bad.

I know I'm not going to get a lot of support for this, but I think A Link to the Past is ugly and amateur-hour looking. It is inconsistent in perspective, has several different shading styles of which several of them are badly executed, things sometimes have thicker outlines for no reason, colour palettes are full of wasteful decisions, and it just features ugly, unmemorable design after ugly, unmemorable design. It's as clear as day that the visuals were made by designers and illustrators who did not really know what they were doing with pixel art. The only thing it has going for it, is that it is consistently poor, so you can relatively easily get used to it. Many of its issues are also present in Earthbound, which is another first party uggo.

Thanks. Now I'm going to have to hook everything back up over the weekend. Looks so good. What about on actual hardware on a CRT?
Those are basically the only screenshots that don't show how awfully the characters clash with the environments. The trailers look bizarre because you have bright coloured, terrible looking characters running through Souls-Quality environments

I never gonna understand the hate for Dragons Crowns art style.
Its funny that so many people are really intimated by buff people working out.
In a more realistic 3D model game its totally understandable why the weird proportions would look stupid but the game is so stylized and beautiful that it works.

Specifically to that cutscene? The improvements are slight and inconsistant.
