Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

I am typically not fond of the older style method of still having weapons strewn about the map as pick ups rather than just going with straight load outs, but the booster that highlights the position of RPGs, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, etc is pretty cool. I like the kick backs as well... not so hot on overtime and sudden death for Team Deathmatch. The games are long enough that I'd prefer they just end at the 50 kill mark.

The automatically assigned "buddy" system is great. Gives you choice between spawning on your teammate instead of a typical point that somebody might be camping on. I wish GG would do this with Killzone 3 since there is more squad leader spawning.

Gotta agree on the lag with some melee kills being bad. I'm getting punched to death right after gunning someone down at close range. Hands moving as fast as bullets is way too COD-esque.

@PlayStation sent me a beta code for answering that Victor Sullivan question but my PSN+ trial has me covered through the end of this beta, so somebody can have it:

Am I crazy or did the visuals get better with the upgrade I just downloaded? Game looks really great. Gameplay wise, it's kind of like Uncharted 2, which is to say, pretty fun. I get the argument against powerplays that players shouldn't be punished for winning, but I'm willing to give them a shot. They're fun as long as you don't take winning or losing that seriously. They prevent boring matches where one side just wipes the floor with the other.
 
The best part of the Airstrip map is the actual competitive map. The aircraft part blows. Warmed up to the map now, despite how ugly it still is.

I second this. I want a whole level like this... not just some 3 min segment.

After playing more of the airfield beginning, I admit that there are some balancing issues against the villains. I think that expanding this sequence in terms of time and scope would be awesome and help fix many of the balancing issues. (maybe add more trucks or the ability to blow up the plane where you then need to work your way to another plane taking off)

Come on! This is fing uncharted!! Where's more of the epic moments like this?

Why do you think it's ugly? I like it. The graphics in Uncharted MP were never "too hot", KZ3 looks way better when it's at is best. Same was true for UC2.

Uncharted 2 MP looks amazing. Nice and clean.

Uncharted 3 on the hand is full of jaggies. It just looks horrible to see. Also the airfield level has the worst art direction in the world. It just looks horrible.

I think its the plane that needs to be bigger. There's like 3 chokepoints, each of which is very easy to hold.

I doubt much revision can be done to that section anymore.

All the sharp edges and strong contrasts bring forth the jaggies. Also, the color scheme of the level reminds me of the Worst Toilet in Scotland.

Yeah, as far as deathmatch goes it's quite amazing. There are just so many ways to maneuver on that map it's great. I like the lighting in that map as well.

The brown, its not an exotic place like most of UC2 maps. Very boring. Reminds me of MAG
 
Now this feels like uncharted. People aren't dying so quickly. It's odd that I'm happy that my opponents sometimes escape my gunfire but it means I do too.

Keep powerplays, kickbacks and boosters as ridiculous as they are. They offer fun opportunities when you want a break from hardcore mode. "A" score from me.

I don't think they look much different at all. You probably also don#t want a MP mode that looks like the SP, except if you enjoy the slideshow that is KZ3 online.
 
Airplane map is funny as hell if you start off well.
You'll go like 6-1 during the plane bit, then rush the grenade launcher, take out 2-3 of their rushers with it , then the voice tells you your RPG is ready^^

RPG within the first 20seconds of the hangar part of the map really surprises people

Wait till you start getting matched against decent higher level players with paid boosters and the gun upgrades.
You'll be dying extremely fast.



Sniper seems good btw, I've seen several people rack up huge scores with it, and have been repeatedly one shot (not sure if it was the loadout or pickup sniper) by them.
Really not liking that 5 shot pistol/shotgun like gun that you can pick up, it is extremely cheap.

Also AK with upgraded firing speed is a beast at close/medium range, the burst gun only beats it at long range, at short it doesn't stand a chance.
 
I definitely like UC3 multiplayer more than U2 due to the sheer amount of improvements and features, however the maps in UC2 are much better visually as well as more fun. I really hope some of the maps from UC2 make a return.
 
So U3 beta is essentially U2 multi but with a few more loadouts & different/smaller maps? Why beta test then? I do like the airplane map, it's different & cool. Works for this type of game, I think.

I'm sure lots of other people will like it. Renting it just in case.

Same reason anyone beta tests. To check server strength and such, find bugs, etc

I have never gotten a treasure piece. It's always been 3 medals, or cash. Thats all.
I've only got treasures from chests a handful of times, and I think it's only been in co-op, but I'm not sure.

The powerplays need to be tested, as does the drop rate of treasures and rarity so they can manage the various unlocks, and the costs of each booster/weapon add-on. They'll be pulling ridiculous amounts of data from this to make sure that they've managed this kind of thing correctly.

Otherwise the weapon play seems pretty finalised. I don't quite know why anyone would pick up any of the on-map pistols after unlocking the auto one, though.

I'll reveal to GAF my secret weapon for this game: Weapons Expert booster + Fully modded Uzi. Guaranteed to kill anything in your way.
 
Just have to chime in and say that the new patch renewed my faith in the game when before the patch i couldn't even play because of the fps bug and freezing.

Also i had so much fun playing three team deathmatch. Running around and flanking dudes with my buddy was an awesome experience. Loving this game again and liking the new additions. That booster or whatever the enemy team gets when they're losing i thought would be annoying, but i played a few matches where even with the other teams getting the boosters they were still getting slaughtered and matches where it made things pretty tense whenever a team got one.

Worst in the world huh..........okay. Well I can't fault someone for having a limited perspective to base an opinion on.
 
I'm pretty noobish at this... and have to say... getting smoked by people with waaaay better shit than me is not really a fun beginner's experience.

Terrible trend in gaming these days to gimp noobs with all the unlockable bullshit. Puts me off mp more often than not.

Agreed. I just popped UC2 back in and it looks and plays better than the new beta.

Worries me since I actually thought the UC2 beta was fucking amazing. I played it way more than when the game was actually released!
 
Played with a friend, Three Team Deathmatch is fun (game so smooth today!). Although some people are pretty terrible, I think the powerplays and kickbacks help them out. I wish kickbacks could come more often though. Seems like at most they can be used twice a match?
 
Shaking my head at the people calling Airstrip "brown." Yeah, with all that yellow caution striping, blue peeling paint, red gas tanks, huge green crates, blue jeep, silver planes...

Yes, it's drab, but you are totally spoiled and foolish if you think it is "brown." By these standards the Tibetan levels in UC2 were "brown." That's sort of Naughty Dog's thing - to have drab looking areas, but give them a splash of color. Hell, while I like Chateau a lot more than Airstrip as a map, both aesthetically and mechanically, Chateau actually has FAR less color in it than Airstrip. If one of the maps is too monotone in color, it's Chateau.

Speaking of Airstrip though - the map is too big. Spend way too much time just running around not engaging in anything.
 
Thank goodness for that patch today, since it fixed the major issues. I played quite a bit of Co-op Arena and Free For All. I fricken love what ND did with Co-op Arena, where it changes from Survival, to Gold Rush, then to Siege, and repeats again. Keeps it a bit fresh. My team and I weren't able to get to Round 10, though, because it would Time Out each time. With Free For All, I just love going after treasures. I think that is the best thing that they have added to the multiplayer. So, yeah, I had a bunch of fun with this Beta today, and I can't wait for the full game.
