Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

I'm pretty noobish at this... and have to say... getting smoked by people with waaaay better shit than me is not really a fun beginner's experience.

Terrible trend in gaming these days to gimp noobs with all the unlockable bullshit. Puts me off mp more often than not.

I agree with this. Part of what made the multiplayer in 2 so great was that everyone was on (almost) equal footing from the get go. Everyone started with the same weapons, and had access to whatever spawned in the map. It was great.

Adding loadouts was a stupid move and one of my biggest disappointments so far. Even shittier is that you have to use up medals to switch your loadout in a game. Fuck that shit.

Hmmmm. Well, thank God the single player is amazing.

I loved the uc2 multiplayer t man, this just feels.....off.

I agree. Aiming, movement (sprint!? Wtf?! Who asked for that?), loadouts, powerplays...I don't like any of the changes reallly. I guess the buddy system is cool, and some of the new modes (3 team deathmatch) are awesome, but they could have been more awesome if they didn't ruin the gameplay.

Played with a friend, Three Team Deathmatch is fun (game so smooth today!). Although some people are pretty terrible, I think the powerplays and kickbacks help them out. I wish kickbacks could come more often though. Seems like at most they can be used twice a match?

Depends on the medal cost, and how much people are going out of their way to get to the chests that are indicated on screen (I get three medals at a time in most cases). I do find it a bit funny on the co-op side of things that they will give you an unlimited firing rate without having to reload for fewer medals than the "team medic" functions which can help the whole team in a chaotic situation (especially during siege). Not hard to guess which option a lot of people are going with.

I did not really play enough competitive UC2 multiplayer to make a comparison but I like how they are breaking up the wave based survival with a "plunder" section to mix things up. Being able to see where enemies are coming from based on their shadows is a nice touch too. Some parts do indeed look rough but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that since they have another four months to work on this thing.

Yeah, there's a medal for earning three Kickbacks in one match, which I think shows how often they expect people to get them. I've only hit that medal once, and my K/D has to be at least 2 at the moment (somehow!).

Anybody else wish that they would add a system that always lets you play as the team you want? So on my screen I'd always see myself as the hero team and the other team would always be villains. And the other team would see it the other way around.

Peace Walker did something like this where each player in coop would see themselves as Big Boss and their partner as a masked soldier.

I don't ever wanna play as generic villain dudes, I should have the option to always be the character I want. And while they're at it, they should let me stop there from being 4 Drakes running around on the same team.

How come that the Yemen map doesn't appear any longer?
It was my first map yeasterday. Btw Chateau is really amazing. Airstrip is nice but a bit boring/predictable with the warehouse environment.

I'm having fun, but this game lacks a little something. Uncharted 2's multiplayer had a lot of charm, and identity. This feels a bit like an amalgamation of parts that aren't quite there. The whole pirate customisation thing is a good idea, I hope with more customisation options it is brought a bit more to life

Also hoping there are some better looking maps.

Yemen? WTF are you talking about, it has never appeared for me.

it was a glitch, it wasn't supposed to come up. It is a very nice level.

I'm loving it. The health is right on the sweet spot... I had forgotten how fun the traversal/enemy stalking was in launch U2 MP.

Did they remove it?

It wasn't scheduled to go live till the end of the beta.

They accidentally turned it on under Free For All yesterday when they switched Plunder for FFA.

My team has 18, the yellow team has 19, me and my partner get into a firefight, I use the RPG kickback and fire at both yellow members, get the win. Feels good.

Seriously three team is the best mode to me right now, I just think it should be at a 25 kill limit instead of 20.

Yeasterday immediatly after I downloaded the beta, the Yemen map was available, it was actually the first map I tried, it was really cool, an arabic city, multilevel with amazing graphics.
It is much better than Airstrip although my absolute favourite is Chateau in the beta.

Edit: It seems like they turned it off today ad will come back during the last days of the beta period.

Call of Drake: Uncharted Warfare makes me want to puke. I did not enjoy playing this.

I Instantly fell in love with UC2 and it remains my absolute favorite competitive multiplayer game ever. If they had just repackaged that with UC3 maps, I would have been happy.

This beta however, gets things wrong on many levels. It takes too long to kill someone, the weapons feel like crap, unlockable guns make for serious gameplay inequalities between the experience and inexperienced, guns are completely out of balance, and the power plays are demeaning, patronizing, balance-disrupting, and just plain dumb.

It wasn't all bad; some of the new modes seem cool and realizing that the deathmatch on the runway was going to start the way that it did was a "holy shit" moment. However, the overall experience isn't very enjoyable so far and Naughty Dog has a lot of work to do to get this back to UC2 levels of goodness.

I'll keep playing though and see if I change my mind.

The melee animations in this game are amazing. Finished a co-op game a few seconds ago where dropkicked someone off a bridge and Somnium threw someone so hard, they did a double backflip into a wall :D

are there no weapons on airship? like, none? once in a while the warehouse will blow up and the RPG will be there but what else? i want some shields, shotguns, snipers, ect. it gets boring playing that map because it's always the same.

What's the level cap?
Someone said they reached 27 already, so I don't think we know the cap. The beta reward for retail only requires you to reach 25 though.

Welcome to almost ANY multiplayer game this gen.
Cue each cs version still peaking 80k simultaneous players a day and people wondering why.

Nade launcher inside on the walkway, shield inside a container outside, shotgun in the little house overlooking the roof if you go up the stairs.

uh none of that stuff is there when i play. its literally empty

Has anyone "finished" one of the coop matches before time runs out? I had a couple today that I thought we would finish because we did everything super fast and didn't die, but still only got to wave 8 before running out of time.

Maybe because we had to search for the last few dudes to kill on survival?

Can anyone help me? :/ My PS3 shuts off and shows the blinking red light when I'm playing this and I can barely manage to finish one game. It seems like it only happens when I play because I left it on for a good 2 hours earlier downloading games, and not until I played the beta did it shut off on me.

It's never had issues but since I started playing this, it overheats! Is there any quick fixes?

EDIT: I forgot to add that this slim PS3 is not really used for games at all, and the only purpose it serves in the house is as a blu-ray player and for Netflix. I asked and they told me that they've never had issues with it. So I'm assuming that it only overheats when I'm running games on it?

What's with the spider perk? it says it needs a voucher to unlock?
AFAiK, it's exclusive to the beta code giveaways at IGN, Joystiq, etc.....

Sounds like your system is dying. If I were you, I would back up your saves up right now if you haven't.

The maps seem really, busy I guess? I find it noticeably harder to spot things than in UC2. I doubt I could spot most of the power weapons if it wasn't for the icon popping up when you walk over them.

I haven't played much of the other maps, but Airport seems really really big for the amount of people.

And am I imagining it or does your character take up more screen real estate in UC3 than UC2?

I'm half and half on this beta. It's fun, but not exactly addicting. It was the same problem with UC2 for me. I think the main issue is the competition on PSN is a joke. I swear on my life in the month me and my buddy played UC2 non stop there was not one game where he or I didn't get first place and the other got second. The trend continues here, and it makes the game boring as shit to me when I can roll my face across the controller and get first.

I don't know how to feel about the power plays either. A forced sense of tension to reward people for doing poorly? Not my thing. Hardcore team death match on the other hand just suffers from being boring.

The teleport kickback is broken as fuck. I use it, and the fact you can stack them up is ridiculous. I can easily get 10+ kills without dying thanks to it.

The maps are fantastic and well designed, but with how big something like airfield is, it seems like only 40-60% of the map actually gets played. Chateau doesn't have this problem and I feel like 80+% of the map gets played out.

Customization is another thing I'm pleased by. Emblems, guns, clothes, etc is fun stuff to tweak. I would like to see more color choices, and while the beta of course is limited in how much stuff we can unlock to dress our characters up in, I hope to see DLC later on for more of this stuff.

Did they take out screenshots from replays? I couldn't figure out what button takes screenshots. :(

Melee sucks and is broken before I forget. I've had a gajillion moments where I come up behind someone and hold square, and get a regular melee instead of a stealth kill. I've also had tons of moments where I swing my arm through someones body more than once and it doesn't effect them at all. I've also had moments where I'm 10 feet away and they swing at air and it hits me. I feel this all because of the lack of dedicated servers. Seems fixing this won't happen on peer to peer.

It's hard to come away impressed from the beta, but it's not bad by any means. I just don't think I'm the primary target----the competitive multiplayer shooter guy. This is more about play for 20 minutes, dick around, and more of a casual online time. I felt the same way about UC2. It's a shame Battlefield 3 comes out before this, and that will be taking up all my multiplayer shooting time, otherwise I would have bought this day one until BF3 drops.

Me, Joe, and Ryan finished both co op maps earlier today. ~15 mins for the Chateau and ~18 for the airstrip iirc.

Well, I love it. There's a lot of bugs need ironed out, but I love just about everything they've put into this so far.
