Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

The problem with Naughty dog is they are the biggest copy cats when it comes to multiplayer in the industry and do it shamelessly.

Uncharted 2 multiplayer was an almost straight out copy of gears of war multiplayer.
In both map design, power weapons and level layout. But it worked and played great and there was no reason to change it. The uncharted traversal gameplay gave it a new and fresh spin.

Half way through they decided they wanted to copy Modern warfare leading to the infamous1.05 health drop and adding of popping up medals on screen etc. in the process this killed traversal gameplay and encouraged camping due to the extremely low health. No other developer has completely destroyed their own gameplay like this in modern times.

Uncharted 3 multi is like a mix of all the above plus elements of other games like killzone, teamfortress etc. The result is a mess, with the new map design people just run in circles killing each other combined with the now lower health as of 1.03 and buddy spawn system it makes a gameplay a complete mess. They dont have a clue what they are doing.

Compare this to what epic have done with Gears of War 3 they are not trying to copy other devs or add unecessary features they are refining the gameplay and balance making it play alot better. Too bad ND dont have this design philosophy.

I can confirm it takes two G-MAL bursts to kill someone. Playing Plunder is a drag now. Two bursts of the G-MAL and you're dead. No chance in escaping being shot from the back...hey this sounds familiar again...

Check out the ND forums. People are saying 1.04 is the best patch. They like the new damage for the g-mal and the buff for the ak-47.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are officially, fucked.

Heh. 1.04 didn't change anything, though. If it did originally take more than two bursts then the change was made in 1.02 or earlier.

Doesn't make sense to hide if they want to gather feedback. May be it's a server side tuning ?

EDIT: Anyway, posted the question on the beta forum. Hopefully I get some response. 8^P

Those are patches for technical fixes and glitches. I believe the 1.04.xxx in which x means that they make changes to gameplay variables..if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, I think the LiveData handles most, if not all, of the damage variables.

Yeah, they can probably make changes, like damage, without a patch.

I kinda wish developers would just make the fucking game that they want to make instead of letting the lowest common denominator make all their decisions for them.

That's what Uncharted 2 started out as. UC3 seemed to be a mess of ideas thrown together from the start.

I kinda agree, even the EG preview said the same thing. Most reviewers ignored it during UC2, but this time UC3 might get nailed due to this.

There's a twinge of disappointment when you first start up Uncharted 3's multiplayer mode. It's the feeling of over-familiarity: the layout of the menus, the experience bar marking the progression of your ascent through the ranks of your online career and the emblem editor.

It is, in short, the Modern Warfare-ness of it all, and the feeling that Naughty Dog, one of blockbuster gaming's more creative voices, has borrowed a template instead of building one.

The multiplayer is quite fun, though.

I imagine it's hard for developers to see the hundreds of millions of dollars Call of Duty rakes in, and think 'If only we could pull in some of those users, we could be the next big thing!'

My guess is that they get pressured from the publishers to make their games 'more accessible'.

Did Killzone 3 steer this way as well? I know it isn't as popular as the 2nd game judging from many users here.

Well, looking at the changes, I can safely say I'm done. Co-op only for the trophies, and that's it.

A shame too, I was looking forward to this. I'm just wondering if the CoD crowd will stick around or you know, go over to MW3 as normal. It'll be AC:R and BF3 for moi.

Metrics win, and I hope they get a larger audience that sticks with it. I know they're after success, and hopefully the changes get it for them.

Yea, but that kind of thinking ignores a lot of other factors that make it sell that well, every year. I understand there's a market expectation to meet, but simply adding the features that CoD doesn't mean those gamers will stay long-term, buy the DLC in droves, and play until the next sequel comes out. Some games cultivate a player base precisely by being different.

However, if the numbers aren't enough...well, that's the ballgame.

I haven't been able to kill anybody with two solid bursts from the gmal... seems like it still takes people three to down me. every once in a while it seems like I drop from two but I figured it was lag. ak47 still makes em drop for me. been ending with kills in the twenties and deaths in the tens...

Usually that's the build number. Does not mean anything (Just a running number every day). It's a common software engineering practice.

Also having a familiar menu layout is a good thing. Not really a problem to follow a good and familiar design. The important thing is to have a unique and fun gameplay.

I didn't play enough of KZ3's multiplayer to tell you that because it runs at roughly fucking 20 frames per second. I so wish I didn't buy that POS.

Plan on making a post on those damned ND forums. Someone else can put it on there if they want instead because I'm going to bed. Anyways, give an opinion about each gun, and how they can improve it.

Ak-47: ??? Dunno, haven't used it lately.
G-mal: Go back to patch 1.03 damage variables for the g-mal. Basically, 3 full bursts to kill someone.
Sniper rifle: ???? Dont use it
M9: ???? Holy shit, does anyone use this gun?
Para: Great right now. Reduce the damage SLIGHTLY. One more bullet to kill.
Micro: Increase the damage only. Everything else is fine.

Good idea guys? Add your suggestions. Gonna post whatever I get here.

Also, please go to their forums and comment on the post instead of jsut letting it sink to the bottom. Shitty posts are getting lots of attention, while good ones are sinking to the bottom. Believe it or not, Neogaf forum is not the place to post grievances about the game.
I'll post a link, and you guys can say you're from neogaf and you agree.

Bah... be a beta tester and post yourself. 8^P
We are all registered anyway since the forum uses PSN account.

I'm flying off tomorrow.

I just got done playing, was on for a couple hours. I noticed no difference in the GMAL. Still took a few bursts to bring someone down, even really crappy players that just stood there while they got shot so I know almost all my shots hit. Maybe the 2 burst kills were people weakened? Or maybe headshots? They do more damage, right?

Idk how balanced this game is going to be. The power weapon booster, I have leveled it up a few times and I can now basically see any power weapon on the map from almost anywhere it seems. Aren't there a lot more powerful ones in the final release? At least they fixed the power plays so they stop if the opposing team comes back.

I agree.

Ahhh thanks so its the game rather than a bluetooth issue with my headset. Its very strange and has happend to me a few times since the new patch.

I only play hardcore because I can't remember all the fancy add-on details. Usually near bottom of the ranking, but had a little fun nonetheless.

I also play co-op. Probably will end up playing a lot of co-op after the game is released.

It runs pretty smoothly now.

So wait, since i played yesterday they have made the gmal even moar powerful and fucked with health. Shit nd gmal didnt need any more boosting a good gmal player was already a fucking great foe, and i liked the health as it was.

I feel like it takes way too many hits to kill someone, a sniper bullet at center mass should be a one shot kill, period. Once someone is on to you after that first hit, it's curtains. I don't use the AK or other weapons as I could practically take a shit & read a newspaper while in the process of killing someone.

I guess I'm in the more hardcore crowd of less forgiving weapons and more "realistic" damage. Before someone quotes me and says "then go play x game" I thoroughly enjoy the uncharted series (multiplayer included), just never happy with the gratuitous health given.

New patch isn't downloading for me. Says it's going to take 1473 minutes, and climbing. Stalled at 0%. WTF!

Anyone else having any trouble?

look at how many games try to ape COD and look at how they do. They don't increase their playerbase, and just irritate fans of the series.

The problem I have with the sniper rifle is that when I successfully kill someone, their death animation is always delayed. It doesn't happen to other guns or grenades, but it does for the sniper and it's confusing because you're thinking they are still alive and they're not. When you killed someone with the sniper rifle in UC2, their death happened immediately.

How can it be a copy of Gears of War if in that game you can't even jump? Plus I hated Gears of War multipayer and I love Uncharted multiplayer. (your call of duty comparison makes more sense)

Ugh, I haven't been playing the beta for a week and they increased the damage? I hate people.

Sorry if I'm feeding the troll here, but really? UC and GeOW play entirely different online. The whole speed and feel is different, the team sizes are different. Power weapons are the same? What do you mean? A whole ton of games have rocket launchers and/or grenade launchers.

As for the G-mal, it's been a 2 hit kill for a while... if anythin I felt it was harder to kill people post 1.04.

GMAL has always been a 2 hit kill up close for me and 3-4 bursts for medium or long range and that hasn't changed for me...I don't get why it would be hidden in the patch notes either since that defeats the purpose.

I'm doing just as well now as I was doing the first day even going against the supposed godlike GMAL now...

Health/damage for weapons has definitely been adjusted.

They didn't mention the changes because I guess they think we won't notice... Para9 took 10 shots straight to the heart to kill in 1.00, in 1.03 they changed it to only 5 shots; no mention in the patch notes but it was proven changed.

Hardcore mode is the BEST THING EVER. Please don't change anything ND. I honestly don't see a thing wrong with the game right now. Health is PERFECT.

idk guys, im having a blast playing the beta with a good team. if im having fun, im having fun.

The things i would change have nothing to do with damage.

-I think you should only get one rocket when receiving the RPG kickback.
-Carrying a treasure should slow you down (even more than it does now), to allow for more team strategy.
-Probably will be in the final game, but add way more customization in characters.
-Seeing the same cut-scenes over and over get old. At least have variations. Or take them out completely.
- Would be cool to see different times of day in the same map, with ND's engine this would be easy.
-I cant seem to see who is talking while playing, unless i press select.
-smoke grenades?
-booty traps (booby traps, thats what i said, booby traps). turrets are cool, but seems to lack creativity. what if you could hit a switch and something would happen on the map.

Had awesome morning seassion, beeing first in all games ftw
Started using gmal, a lot better for my play then ak. Only 2 issues now are kickbacks not stacking and lag(when I smoke bomb out often I die anyway), beside that all great.

What to play until november ffs :(

Oh and creepy crawler, will it be preorder only or what? And airplane sequence sometimes glitches hmm
