In the realm of Hammer Horror films I always found Paranoiac to be vastly underrated. It's beautifully shot and young Oliver Reed is amazing in the lead role - here's a review I posted in the GAF movie thread;

The giant VHS box for RABID used to terrify me as a kid. Bad enough was the dessicated Marilyn Chambers on the front, but on the back was some chick with bloody teeth. In my feverish and frightened imagination, it was dangerous just to walk past or glance at that box.

The original Wicker Man is one of those best kept secrets. Movie buffs love it but your average movie goer has never heard of it. Plus, it was practically buried after it came out.

Scream, or The Exorcist are very popular horror movies. The Wicker Man is not in this group, and better than both. So, underappreciated ?

THE GATE is a wonderful children's horror flick. Scared the shit out of me on more than one sleepover. Made a great double feature with Wes Craven's underrated DEADLY FRIEND, which all of GAF should see if they like movies about nerds with cool robots and hot chick friends.

Remember watching it in theaters, but hardly anyone seemed to know or care that it was out. Had to start dragging friends to go see it. The film was intense with just the claustrophobia and pitfalls, but once the creatures show it gets pretty gritty. Also bonus points for an all female cast.

Now this is truly underrated. It may be one of the greatest sequels of all time. It does what many great sequels do; it avoids rehashing the first film almost completely.

For the curious or skeptical, the premise is that Norman Bates has served his time, is rehabilitated and is going to reintegrate into society. He is the protagonist!

He also worked on Demons and Demons 2, mentioned earlier.

Also, no one's mentioned Phantasm? Then I'll say it: Phantasm.

It's not "well made" in that there's cheesy dialogue and cornball acting, but it was just the weirdest thing I've seen in a while. Last I knew, it was streaming on Netflix. Probably a love it or hate it movie, but I really dug it.

It is a shame the Roger Avery sequel will never be made. Script sounded nuts.
