DEADLY SPAWN IS a lot of fun, but it cracks me up because the kid looks so much like my little brother did around that age. Great monster FX.

Martyrs.
Not that it's really underappreciated, but being the best horror movie of the last 20 years it should get WAAAAAAAAAAY much more credit, attention and fame.

And early Cronenberg is always a good bet. Shivers, Rabid and The Brood for example.

The giant VHS box for RABID used to terrify me as a kid. Bad enough was the dessicated Marilyn Chambers on the front, but on the back was some chick with bloody teeth. In my feverish and frightened imagination, it was dangerous just to walk past or glance at that box.

I see your Martyrs and raise you Tucker & Dale Vs Evil... spoiler for those that haven't seen it---->
although it's more dark comedy than horror. I think the last half of the movie turns into straight horror

Shivers was the first time I've ever been attracted to a white woman as a kid...

It really isn't. Like, at all.

The original Wicker Man is one of those best kept secrets. Movie buffs love it but your average movie goer has never heard of it. Plus, it was practically buried after it came out.

Scream, or The Exorcist are very popular horror movies. The Wicker Man is not in this group, and better than both. So, underappreciated ?

My choice: Don't Look Now

haha yeah, that image still disturbs me. well, now it does that. back then, it scared the shit outta me too.

I enjoyed 'The Ninth Gate' when i watched it a couple days ago. Its long and a bit silly, but oddly compelling.

Also...

not sure how I forgot about it. First time I was introduced to Jennifer Connolly <3

The Descent

I generally ignore the horror genre, but I loved this one and it made me start giving horror movies a look.

THE GATE is a wonderful children's horror flick. Scared the shit out of me on more than one sleepover. Made a great double feature with Wes Craven's underrated DEADLY FRIEND, which all of GAF should see if they like movies about nerds with cool robots and hot chick friends.

Also, I am in full support of PRINCE OF DARKNESS and SESSION 9.

That's a sweet wedding gift.

This is what I am talking about when I say that genre people tend to be nice.

Shit Dook, we need to be, like, best friends man. Awesome taste.

your sister not still single is she?

Remember watching it in theaters, but hardly anyone seemed to know or care that it was out. Had to start dragging friends to go see it. The film was intense with just the claustrophobia and pitfalls, but once the creatures show it gets pretty gritty. Also bonus points for an all female cast.

Thanks.

She has a BF these days. Sorry.

Now this is truly underrated. It may be one of the greatest sequels of all time. It does what many great sequels do; it avoids rehashing the first film almost completely.

For the curious or skeptical, the premise is that Norman Bates has served his time, is rehabilitated and is going to reintegrate into society. He is the protagonist!

Genius.

SOCIETY

Please, just watch it without spoilers. Yes, it looks like a 90s teen show. It does not end that way. You will love it, I promise.

DEMONS

The best zombie movie that most people have not seen. You will be amazed by the final battle.

I came across Society when i was doing a Google spell check for the word Society, been meaning to check it out, this thread has reminded me to.

A tale of two sisters be my reply to this thread

Scared me shitless as a kid, it's one of those movies I never got round to rewatching though.

Mine, Dracula (1979)

Little horror, barring Mina in the mine but this is still one of my favorites.

It NEEDS a full colour Blu-ray to redeem the terrible DVD, such a gorgeous looking movie before Badham fucked with it.

it's the second one in this thread.

IT IS NOT UNDERAPPRECIATED, it's a huge box office hit!

For American horror fans not too up with the horror scene, anything by Dario Argento is always weird, wonderful fun.

Suspiria, Creepers aka Phenomena, Bird With the Crystal Plumage, Deep Red, Inferno, Tenebre, Opera, The Stendhal Syndrome....just tons of atmospheric slasher flicks.

He also worked on Demons and Demons 2, mentioned earlier.

Talk to the average joe who has seen it and they'll tell you it's shit. Just because it made a lot of money doesn't mean it's appreciated as a movie now.

De Palma's Sisters was freaky and fun. The Entity is harrowing.

YES!!! Everything De Palma is awesome. Or at least, most everything. Very Hitchcockian.

Also, no one's mentioned Phantasm? Then I'll say it: Phantasm.

It's not "well made" in that there's cheesy dialogue and cornball acting, but it was just the weirdest thing I've seen in a while. Last I knew, it was streaming on Netflix. Probably a love it or hate it movie, but I really dug it.

You should check out the sequels.

2 is pretty effin sweet, thought by some to be the ALIENS of the series.

3 is not so good, but has some neat stuff in it.

4 is a bit of low-budget genius because it uses cut footage from 1 to create a time-travel plot.

It is a shame the Roger Avery sequel will never be made. Script sounded nuts.

Blow Out immediately comes to mind. That's my favorite film of his.

Tetsuo The Iron Man.

hard to explain....the imagery and claustrophobic sense is disturbing enough to follow.

i think Come to Daddy video captures the same vibe.

Im not sure if it was mentioned yet, but sleepaway camp is an all time favorite of mine that very few people know about. Incredibly campy, lots of fun, awesome ending.

Really? I guess I assumed they were like the standard horror sequels so I never even thought to check them out. Phantasm II just hit my watch list, thanks!

There are some scenes from this I'll never forget. The mechanical penis or the iron bar in the leg, and that chase scene was gold.

Straight up retro satanic shit. The last twenty minutes is scary as hell.

Awesome movie.

This one almost feels identical at first, but it has a supernatural spin on the whole "terrorized babysitter" schtick that I enjoyed

Every time one of these threads pop up I always mention "Someone's Knocking at the Door" probably has the best and most well done twist in a film I've ever seen. Repeat viewings are a total must. Also, it's streaming on Netflix.
