Usage Based Billing approved, Canadian govt shoots it down, more developments to come

I'm calling it now. CRTC re-reviews UBB and allows for a 30% discount for wholesalers rather than 15%

Konrad actually seems to believe that diarrhea that is coming out of his mouth right now.

We really need the evidence to see the percentage of usage on the tubes. I doubt its even close to 25% of maximum. Therefore proving that artificial caps are being placed on the consumer and that all this is bullshit.

None of these people are informed about net neutrality and internet usage and the possibilities that we can have but are denied.

He just said "Teksavvy, your client".

Clearly, he is working for Bell...

I noticed that too. Could it be any more obvious, I really hope this whole thing just gets thrown out the window. There is no reasonable compromise here. There is absolutely no benefit to a nations people by putting toll booths on the internet. It serves no one but the corporations.

Anyone else going crazy watching this? Its like pulling teeth. Does no one in that room understand the internet?

no there all old and out of touch...
I seriously doubt any of those use it for more then email

Sounds like he's getting called out for comparing the internet to oil and electricity.

This kind of feels like my reward for voting NDP every election.

edit: "The best analogy is the cell phone." fuuuuuuuuuck

Yes, make comparisons against the cellphone situation that is the most broken thing we have in this country. How about instead of making things worse make things better. And not only the the mobile infrastructure is limited far more merely by physics of trying to run many devices on the same wavelengths at the same time. The bandwidth on land lines is so much larger.

I also love the "We're not talking about business we're talking about residential". If you run into something you can't explain just pretend it isn't relevant.

Dude's falling apart now.

Ah fuck, they cut off the NDP guy as he brings up the fact that the infrastructure was subsidized by tax dollars.

Now he's confusing megabytes with gigabytes.

I'm just waiting for him to start screaming I HOLD YOU IN CONTEMPT

lulz

The user experience on a personal computer allows for much high bandwidth consumptions. The comparison to a cellphone is broken.

Also, the constant references to 200X studies don't fucking matter. Consumption of internet content grows larger every year as more and more outlets switch to things like HD images and video. Television sites are streaming shows on their sites now too.

What the fuck does the past matter? We're consuming more and more bandwidth every year and that won't stop. Ever.

If the liberals could shut up about 'the role of government (the conservatives)' and address the current issue instead that would be great. The more I see the more likely I'm going to be voting NDP.

Wow, 15.4GB per month. So much congestion.

"THOSE POOR AVERAGE USERS ARE PAYING FOR THE SINS OF HEAVY USERS."

"averaged out everyone uses far less than the 25GB cap."

ARE YOU LISTENING TO WHAT IS COMING OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!?

"IPTV is really not part of your Internet service. You do not get IPTV over the Internet."

That says it all, doesn't it?

Wow, and they accept that answer.
